About
Northern California's San Juan Oaks Golf Club is located halfway between the Silicon Valley and Monterey Peninsula off Highway 101 near the historic town of San Juan Bautista in Hollister. Opened in 1996, the 18-hole golf course is Fred Couples' first signature design in California and features five sets of tees for varying skill levels. It's also home to "Club Boom Boom," a popular junior teaching program. On top of the golf course, San Juan Oaks is known especially for its elaborate facilities including banquet rooms and patios for group outings, as well as driving range and practice greens.

They know what’s up
San Juan Oaks Bill one of the best courses in the area. Grateful that I have an opportunity to play it regularly
course is in great shape
the combination of hazards and high wind makes the course tough, but it is fun to play. the layout dictates that two par four holes are cart path-only year round but pace of play is otherwise very good.
Great Layout/Greens, Worst bunkers in CA
This course would have rated 5 stars if ANY of the bunkers were filled with sand and maintained. If so disappointing to have such a great layout and such great greens, to see such HORRIBLE bunkers. Come on dudes ! Get with the program. If you can afford some sand, put up a donation jar in the club house. I'm sure the golfers would pitch in to get some better bunkers there.
The feedback from the course was a complete joke ! A cut and paste job! As the users can see, it's the same canned response to other feedback. They never read my complaint about how bad their bunkers are and never mentioned any improvement plan. Maybe I'll golf elsewhere , where management actually cares about their customers !

Great price value! A challenging course with a little wind that made some of the holes play 30-69 yards longer. In good condition and a fun course with great pace of play

Tough in Freaky May Storm
Booked an annual coast trip 7 gentlemen, and decided to play SJO on the way home. Freaky May storms, and hit poured for the 2 days prior and the morning of our chosen play day. Storm broke around noon, and we went out. Ken in the Pro Shop was the consummate professional, and worked with us on a price. Despite near Biblical rain, the course played very well, aside from no roll. Bunkers needed some work, greens were still around 9.5, and the rough was perfect. Love the layout, the lack of houses anywhere, and the views.

Good bang for your buck
Great layout for the average player. Front nine is fairly flat and open. Back nine is much more challenging with hills and ravines to maneuver though. Greens are running a little slower than usual but very true. The staff in the pro shop, cart barn to the bar, restaurant are all outstanding. I really like playing here.

Course was in great shape except for bunkers. There was minimal sand. Rocks and weeds. There was no diet soda or sports drinks available . No rangers to keep play going. 5 hours.

Overall condition is good after long raining season the last several months. fairway is great, green is in best condition. Just dont get into bunkers, not a friendly sand there. I will have to chip it out as did most of bay area bunkers.

Excellent Fred Couples Designed Layout
I really enjoyed playing San Juan Oaks. The putting greens are a challenge, but are in excellent condition. The course is in excellent condition.

Great layout and in great shape
The course is in good condition pace of play was fast it’s a hidden gem that I hope stays that way. The greens slightly bumpy at times but for the most part we’re really good. No snack shop in the morning’s but there is a restaurant. Golf shop staff are very nice . I will play here Again soon

A double eagle course
Played a round in less than four hours. Course from tee box to green manicured and mowed. Rain created Open conditions for errant balls but rewarded accuracy and dstance control.

SJO IS AMAZING... but, the bunkers...
Bunkers need massive work. Not sure if local rules allow for an automatic pull from sand, but probably should be. Other than that, one of my favorites! Very difficult, but very fun :)

Beautiful course, great setting
Clubhouse, pro shops, dining room, bar, and staff were all excellent. Course is beautiful and the front nine is difficult. Course maintenance is a bit below average, and the bunkers need to be redone. Still a very enjoyable experience.
