San Juan Oaks Golf Club
About
Northern California's San Juan Oaks Golf Club is located halfway between the Silicon Valley and Monterey Peninsula off Highway 101 near the historic town of San Juan Bautista in Hollister. Opened in 1996, the 18-hole golf course is Fred Couples' first signature design in California and features five sets of tees for varying skill levels. It's also home to "Club Boom Boom," a popular junior teaching program. On top of the golf course, San Juan Oaks is known especially for its elaborate facilities including banquet rooms and patios for group outings, as well as driving range and practice greens.

Great Round with Great People
Greens were Aerated but when you have a great group, that’s secondary. We were all warned so not a big deal, this is our 3rd time out there and had a great time.
Hello Judy, we appreciate your 4-star rating. We hope you join us for another round soon.
Good everything but too slow green
The green speed is around 8 to 9.
My friends want it to be faster than that.
Hello Jenny, thank you so much for letting us know about your recent experience. Your satisfaction is a deep concern of ours as we always aim to exceed expectations. Our playing conditions are very important to us and we do strive daily to maintain high standards. Please come back soon and allow us to WOW you on your next visit! Until then, take care!
Great value
A beautiful course that is well maintained. It is worth the drive to play this course. Very challenging but fun course. It is worth the money to play. Not too crowded and the pace of play is good. I played on a weekday. Weekends are more expensive and probably more crowded.
Hand Crafted San Juan Oaks Is San Juan Wonderful
This course ranks among the best I can remember playing. It is fair and tough, wind can get up and down and the greens holes move so be careful.
Recently I have played Industry Hills in LosAngeles, Skylinks in Long Beach, my Nor Cal locals like Yocha De He, Cordevalle, and Saddlecreek. Even Hiddenbrooke.
San Juan Oaks is a combination of all of them.
The commitment to golf is seen here. A must play.
San Juan Oaks Round of Golf in Review January 27th, 2019
Check it out, it's been a while since I last played San Juan Oaks, as the last time prior to this latest outing was in September 2018 with my Cousin, and we had a blast at that time, but this time, was even better, it was like San Juan Oaks, 2.0!
I was delighted to notice immediately that there was an upgrade made to the cart fleet at the "Oaks" as they are all now equipped with the most user-friendly and GOLF RELEVANT GPS systems, information which made for a truly unique, and whole new way to play and experience my local-home town course. You can even order lunch and keep score all through the carts applications which was NICE! Not to mention, they look classy going back to the khaki base with a sleek new blacktop roof... all combined makes it a fun cart to drive all throughout the round.
As usual the pro shop staff at the front counter was nice and prompt to get me out on the range (or tee) quickly, which was great as it gave me a little extra time on the practice chipping green !
The range was in great shape, as usual, and I was lucky enough to play and not have any wind that day, so that was a bonus from the Golf Gods.
Course conditions are the in some of the best they have ever been which is why it was a tough day from the championship tees.
The fairways were like carpets, the boundary lines were freshly marked, and the greens were softer, fast, and smooth. I cannot complain one bit about the conditions of the greens that day, there was not one noticeable blemish, and they all rolled true. Practice makes perfect!
San Juan Oaks has always been a nice place to test all parts and limits of my game and have fun, but with SJO 2.0 golf carts on standby ready to roll, I found it much easier and a TUN OF FUN to do it now, and I cannot wait to play here again. Pace of play was noticeably faster thanks due to the GPS carts, and due to marshals out on the course keeping pace. I will be back soon, just got to let the current stormy weather let up a little bit and pass us by.
Much thanks to everyone out at SJO for a great way to ease into the work week, and cheers too much more enjoyable rounds in the future!

Thank you for the great feedback! We love hearing from you and are glad you had a good experience. We would love the opportunity to bump those 4 stars to 5. We hope you will come back soon so we can WOW you on your next visit. Until then, take care!
Greens
It is a shame for this course to let the greens go as they are. This course used to be known for smooth, fast , and true greens. Greens are about a 7 or 8 and need to be rolled and cut.
Had a Great Time
For January course was in great condition. Pace of play met winter expectations. Overall had a fun round.
Excellent Condition
I played in late December and the course was in great shape. I will be playing again
Great course
Course in great condition and a very challenging layout. Only wish would be if there was a little bit more sand in the traps.
perfect time of the yr for Hollister
Great after a little rain, hit it just right. May want to get those pig traps working again and have a cookout. Several holes had gutted areas. Otherwise, the cold wet weather makes for excellent pace and time for replaying the back nine. Thanks for a great day
CONDITION
GREAT EXCEPT NO SAND MAINTENANCE.
NEED SAND BY THE GREENS
Terrible shape
Not worth 45 on golf now.
I understand they got a little rain but the course was so beat up. Was clearly a maintenance issue. Very disappointed to come back to a course I liked so much.
Really fun!
Great course! Can’t believe I haven’t played here until now. It was a lot of fun. Challenging design. It’s like the course architect knew exactly where to put a sand bunker for me! The only criticism i have is that the bunkers were in rough shape. I spent a lot of time in them so I can confidently say they were hard and compacted and the edges were not well kept. Maybe it’s from the weather lately? But overall I really enjoyed this course despite my poor play. Saw a lot of wildlife too. Deer, road runner, and even a baby bobcat. Fun day!
Hello, thank you for taking the time to review us, San Juan Oaks Golf Club, and for the 4 stars. We're sorry to hear the course may not have been in the best shape on the day of your round, and we appreciate your feedback regarding the greens so we may work on any necessary improvements. However, we're glad you received a good value for your round and had a fun time on the course. Thank you for choosing to golf with us, and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
