About
Northern California's San Juan Oaks Golf Club is located halfway between the Silicon Valley and Monterey Peninsula off Highway 101 near the historic town of San Juan Bautista in Hollister. Opened in 1996, the 18-hole golf course is Fred Couples' first signature design in California and features five sets of tees for varying skill levels. It's also home to "Club Boom Boom," a popular junior teaching program. On top of the golf course, San Juan Oaks is known especially for its elaborate facilities including banquet rooms and patios for group outings, as well as driving range and practice greens.

I am a member. Love the course. Pace of play was slow that day, but overall it’s one of the hidden gems of the Monterey area.
San Juan
I love this course but I played it on a few days after the greens were punched and the last few times I’ve played there the greens have been rolling pretty slow. The pace of play can’t get a little long a times too.

Beautiful course, slow play
Have played here before and thoroughly enjoyed it. They could use a ranger to move play along. Took five hours. But still enjoy the course and beautiful vistas around. Will go back. Good value.

Love course but greens were just sanded
Always love the layout. Weather couldn't have been better. Greens were sanded though and inconsistent in speed. Another week or two and is have given a better eating. Pace was 2 hours for the front but 2 hours 45 on the back. Waited on most tees on the back.

Enjoyed the varied layout and course conditions
First time playing San Juan Oaks. - overall positive experience and a course I will play again. I would give it a 4+ rating based on the the course conditioning and layout. From tees to green course in very good shape, course offers a very good variety of different holes including elevation changes, doglegs, short par 4s, longer holes etc. Used a lot of different clubs in the bag and never had that sense you get on some courses where the holes blur together. For my level (11 handicap), this was a good challenge but not overly demanding. - thus, a very enjoyable round. Finally, some nice views to add to the enjoyment on the back 9 when you get farthest out on the course tucked into a canyon.
As a side note - For those that live in Silicon Valley like myself, I deemed it to be worth the drive and I'll play it again because I like variety and it was a fun course. However, was a little surprised that it was pricier than Cinnabar Hills (after adding in cart fee and half green fees for my son (junior) who plays for free at Cinnabar). Cinnabar is a notch above in terms of layout and level of course conditions. Maybe that just speaks to the value at Cinnabar but was one slight negative that I noted.

Great layout combined with excellent conditions
San Juan Oaks offers a great layout with a mixture of challenging holes and friendly "scoreable" ones. Super friendly staff.

Great Course
I'm hesitant to recommend this awesome course because I don't want it to get packed like the Bay Area courses but this course is now my favorite

Easy access, decent condition
It’s about an hour drive from the Bay Area. Course condition has been up to par with the majority of the well-kept courses around, even with the amount of traffic during this SIP period.
The course offer enough challenges to make each and every round interesting. When you are playing well, you get rewarded, but on an off day, you’ll pay dearly.
Probably due to distance from the Bay Area, it is not hard to get a tee time here, and the pace is fairly relaxed. You do run into slow playing groups from time to time, but it hasn’t been a big issue. This has been my primary go-to course for the past 6 months.

So Windy = Slow Play
It was extremely windy that I believe it slowed the pace of play to a crawl. Just one of those days. Looking forward to the 80-90 light breeze days.
