Played this course for the 4th time today and it was disappointing. Most of the fairways are bad. Many under repair with what looks like flooding or overwatering….which is weird because it hasn’t rained.
The greens were in great condition so I’ll give them that, but fairways were mostly bad. Tee boxes were average.
It’s disappointing because they’re charging almost $100 for holiday rate and the course isn’t worth more than $70 for a weekend.
Pace of play was fine and bar was fine, but course left a lot to be desired for $98.
Never play again
Should be illegal to charge 100 dollars for the worst gold course in Orange County
Poor conditions
This could be such an amazing course. The location is very convenient and the price, while far too high for the quality of the course, is very reasonable. I have played this course many times and it has never been in good condition. There are large dried out patches adjacent to muddy and water logged areas. The sand traps are unplayable, and the fairways are studded with repair areas. And yet I paid $100.
Terrible golf course
Extremely disappointed . I was ripped off for $400 for a group of 4. There is mud, dirt, and dead grass everywhere. This should have been a $30 round. I would not recommend playing here. The pace of play was also very slow.
Rancho San Joachim
Fun course. Some great holes, some not so great. Fairways not in great condition and several spots with muddy spots. Most greens in very good shape some not so much. Took forever to play 18 holes.
Slow Round…bad course conditions
This was the slowest round of golf ever! 3 hours to cover 10 holes. I left after 13 holes. Tee’s off before 10am.
Sadly has lots of potential but the course is in rough shape.
Course should have been closed for the day
It was very windy when we arrived. Many people had canceled. They should have offered us a cancellation as the entire course was covered with palm, fronds, leaves, and branches and the greens were totally covered with all kinds of seeds from the palm trees, making putting impossible.
Usually a good course
We like it as a local course in our rotation. However for some reason it was so wet that day. Really soaked with lots of sections of wet and muddy unplayable areas.
Normally the price is a good value. However the course was in awful condition and was charged full price. Although there had been no rain recently, there was mud on nearly every hole. Including tire tracks across the fairway that dug up the mud. If a tee box was relocated temporally for ground under repair, the temporary tee box was placed into the rough, and not cut to a lower height. So a driver tee height looked like a wood tee height. A few sand traps had grass growing in them. And several of the greens were patched up in some way. Enough to take relief because the manner in which they were patched up were going to cause the putt to go offline. If a course is going to be under this many repairs and in this state, the pricing should reflect it.
Fun track, needs work
RSJ has always struggled with conditions but it is awful right now. Too many dirt spots on the fairway, horrible tee boxes and average at best greens. With these conditions and still several path-only holes. It's a fun course but plays like a $20 muni not an $85 course.
Nice Greens
The course condition itself was not that good, but the greens were excellent, which made it enjoyable. It looks like they’re trying to do some work around the course. Hopefully things will improve in the future a nice round of golf from someone coming from Minnesota.
Awful conditions, bad carts, average layout, slow play
It is impossible and frustrating to see even a 3 or 4 star let alone 5 star review for this dog track. No golfer who plays even 3 times a year could honestly say this is a worthwhile golf course, unless they were paid for their review. IF it was in great shape it would be an average uninspired layout. BUT... It is not even in OK shape...every aspect of the course is bad. Greens are patchy with burned spots and different weed grasses, couple that with rounded holes lead to bumpy and unpredictable putting. Bunkers are hard packed with sparse coarsely grained sand and standing water. Fringes have bare spots AND untrimmed kikuyu grass in spots. The weedy fairways are patched with dry bare spots AND wet standing water areas. Couple that with old broken down carts and a combo of uncaring or even rude clubhouse workers and you have a 1 star experience at best. It doesn't matter if the putting green is nice or that they have ok sandwiches...it is not a restaurant or picture venue...it's a golf course, and a really poorly maintained one at that.
