Rancho San Joaquin 2 some

COURSE PLAYED well. I had a small issue after the first whole, we started earlier which is fine, but the group in front of us was playing for money and they took much longer putting, and practicing putting in front of us. Cool, it's fine when someone wants to replay a loss or a win of a hole, but you have to move on. Tee up and stop the drinking and bull chalking. Our 2 some was delightful, they were friendly and informative players. They gave me free reads, they helped me shoot birdies and keep pars salvageable. I found water if anyone wants Prov1x go swimming as I lost 2 balls for an 81. Take that shooter.

Cart path only

You MUST relax the cart-path only on any whole which is not a par 3. I can’t believe you think you can do this on par 5’s! I will never come back

Nice course

Pace of play was inconsistent. 4 hours one day 4 and half another. Seems the only time the ambassadors come out is if their asked to. Greens are real good, and there working on the rest of the coarse. I think the value is good people are great and coarse is continuing to get better

Decent but not great

Most of the course is ground under repair and the greens are patchy. Decent speed in greens and slope are challenging. Would be a nice course if kept up.

Nice

Course was great other than all the bunkers were under construction. And it was pretty muddy.

Was not up to par like the last time I played it

They charged me $115, bunkers were a mess, the course seemed to be over watered! Muddy lies everywhere and a lot of ground under repair moves. Just not worth the money charged! I say maybe $75 at most! I was disappointed for my New Year golf day! 😔

Rancho San Joaquin New Year’s Eve Round

Staff is phenomenal and the clubhouse is stunning after its remodel. However, due to the poor conditions of the course including flooding, mud, and many holes being cart path only it really took the enjoyment from the round. When your ball is in the fairway, but in a mud puddle, or your ball lands in a sinkhole it really takes a toll. It’s not going to be fun cleaning my clubs or my shoes either. Golf cart got stuck in the mud driving in the rough on hole 16. They need to do a better job with drainage, and pin locations. It was brutal out there.

Decent track, terrible conditions

I was visiting family in Orange County and couldn't get on Strawberry Farms or Tustin Ranch, so I decided to give Rancho San Joaquin a try after driving by so frequently. From what I had heard and read, I thought the holiday rates of $89 to walk would be steep for this course. It was.

The track is fair and honestly looks like it could be a solid layout with a good variety of holes. Par 4s that move both ways, a mix of 3 shot and reachable par 5s, holes where you need to lay back off the tee, short and longer par 3s, slopey (almost too much so) greens... it could be great. I have young kids, so it was my first time out golfing in a while and I really enjoyed being out there. I walked and one of my playing partners also was out walking and we had a nice morning overall.

The condition of this course, however, would put it very close to the worst I have ever played (and if not for the Karakung course in Philly, would probably be the worst). Nearly all of the bunkers are under repair because they were underwater. The fairways are missing grass and inconsistent or flooded and nearly mush. For an 8:40a tee time, they were still tending to the greens and green speeds were wildly inconsistent. At least 3 tee boxes were closed for repairs, and on one par three, the improvised tee was on a fairly significant downhill lie.

Did I overall enjoy my day at Rancho San Joaquin - yes. Would I play here again - yes... for a twilight rate or if I really just needed to get out and play some golf. Would I rather pay $180 to play Strawberry Farms or $90 to play Rancho San Joaquin? Unless the conditions get better, Strawberry Farms all day.
