Willowick Golf Course
About
Opened in 1929, Willowick Golf Course in Santa Ana is Orange County's oldest public golf course. It is a challenging layout that has garnered a quite a following over the years. The course features wide fairways and large greens that offer ample room. There aren’t any water hazards a few strategically placed sand traps come into play and there are also mature trees lining the fairways. Golfers will get to practice a variety of different shots on this course. It is player-friendly enough for high-handicappers but there are still some challenges for low handicappers. The excellent condition of the greens and fairways are inviting no matter what your skill level. In addition to the golf course, Willowick also offers a grass driving range and three practice putting greens.

Absolutely the worst course in California, maybe the world.
The entire golf course is a dirt crater field unworthy of golf balls. I would not recommend to my worst enemy to ever play this sorry excuse for a golf course. I wish I could get my money for playing this awful course. This course does not have tee boxes and would be better off being completely dirt instead of patches of weeds. Do not play.
Stop overcharging for a course you don’t maintain or care about!
Terrible course homeless haves moved in on couple holes no amenities, very to little any maintaining of course conditions on. I would just say book another place even if this is your last resort.
If you only have 3 hours to play...This is the place
The Wick is a pasture at best. There are thousands of gopher holes that make it hard just to walk the course and I have lost balls down them in the middle of the fairway...But, During the spring and winter months the course plays pretty good and the pace of play is unbeatable in OC. I walk this course in 3 to 3.5 hours every time. If there is a 4 some in carts and I walk up on them...They have let me play through every time (only course in O.C. where this happens) People here just know that if you are playing here instead of other courses then you came here to play and get the heck out as fast as possible. Never mind the homeless living on the course, or the dirt in the middle of the fairway, just be thankful for the extra challenge and be grateful you have 3 hours during the week to go play. Only thing that has kept me from coming back in the last couple months is that they raised the price by about $10.00 without changing anything about the course. I didn't mind that goat track when I was paying 22.00 to walk after 10:30 during the week but now paying $31.00 to walk when Riverview (down the street) is charging $27 to play a nicer course with a 3.75 hour pace of play...Well, it just makes sense to go there if you have less than 4 hours to play and get back to work.
Decided to play at the last minute. Was able to get a tee time at a reasonable price. The course was in decent shape. The course was empty because it was Christmas Day. Finished 18 holes in less than 3 hours. Would play this course again.
Continuously declining
The tee boxes are horrible. Some boxes are on the fairway.
The fairways are bumpier than ever. Like you're driving through a tree line with exposed roots. I mean really bad. Bald spots everywhere.
Greens are patchy and bad. The cups are like 8 inches deep and edges are tore up and rough. Flags aren't straight.
Mud everywhere. Really bad drainage. Smells like a swamp or sewer.
Staff is rude and slow.
For the price and tee time availability it's fair. But that's the only thing going for it. It's been getting worse over the years.
Not Good
Willowick has never been a fancy course, but you could always count on the greens to be in good shape, and the fairways were decent. I’m not sure what happened, but the fairways are atrocious, gopher holes and mounds everywhere, and the greens were not as good as usual.
Also, 16 tee box was closed, but there was no designated spot to tee off, strange. As mentioned earlier, it’s never been the best groomed course, but it has hit rock bottom.
Absolute dog track
Surprisingly for the price this is by far the worst course conditions in all of Southern California. With that being said the abysmal course conditions were topped off by a homeless encampment behind the 16th green and the trash/burn pile on the side of the 18th fairway. If you do get sucked in by available tee times like I did be prepared for the worst conditions you have ever seen.
Ok.
Fairway lot of damaged glass by mole rap..
Most course are need good maintenance.
Thank you.
My experience at Willowick
It’s got a nice layout for a muni. But the fairways have no grass. Gopher holes and pace of play was very slow. Need a helmet when out in the fairways. Greens need to be kept up. But the staff was very nice.
Course in really bad condition, greens were OK
I played here with a small group because i was able to book 3 weeks in advance but definitely not playing again as there is no grass on the fairway. High changed you will mess your swing or get injured. Greens and tees are very close to each other so very dangerous as balls came very close to my group several times.
I hope owner or management decide to put some money to inprove the course.
Worst course I have ever played.
Course is absolutely trash, on the plus side they let us bring our dog along.
Playable but rough movement thru course
It’s a “get what you pay for” outing. Of course, it’s fair priced and challenging. The fairways are infested with gofer and their hills of dirt, bumps, holes, etc. a kidney belt would have helped. It was Veterans Day and I think the greens keeper was trying to simulate combat conditions for us… I really can’t remember a more difficult, evil pin placement throughout…but, it was playable, and I enjoyed it…at least my good (although dew) shots. Yes, if I needed to golf and I could get a time, I’d do it again.
Worst course iv been to in so cal
The worst kept course iv been to
No way should they be charging what they do
