Willowick Golf Course
About
Opened in 1929, Willowick Golf Course in Santa Ana is Orange County's oldest public golf course. It is a challenging layout that has garnered a quite a following over the years. The course features wide fairways and large greens that offer ample room. There aren’t any water hazards a few strategically placed sand traps come into play and there are also mature trees lining the fairways. Golfers will get to practice a variety of different shots on this course. It is player-friendly enough for high-handicappers but there are still some challenges for low handicappers. The excellent condition of the greens and fairways are inviting no matter what your skill level. In addition to the golf course, Willowick also offers a grass driving range and three practice putting greens.

Buyer Beware
This was the first time playing Willowick, and as advertised it was definitely the oldest course in Orange County. However, with the old came a whole host of problems. Have never seen so many gopher holes, gopher mounds, etc. The lack of attention to this problem has allowed to rodents to completely destroy the fairways and some tee boxes. Make sure you watch your step, as you might twist an ankle, or hold on for an extremely bumpy ride in your golf cart. On a positive note, the golf carts are strong, visually esthetic and in good working order.
Signage is basically non-existent, and if you are lucky you might find yourself playing the course in numerical order. Most likely out of order.
On two of the holes you will find yourself having to navigate around trash, clothes, and tents all associated with homeless camps. Don't leave your cart unattended, as your valuables may disappear.
I would not recommend this course to friends, family or enemies. Until someone shows some interest in just a modicum of maintenance or ownership, I'll never return.

Don’t come here..
There was bums living on the course!! And it was full of gang graffiti everywhere.. Ridiculous can’t believe this course is still in business

Decent course
If you’re looking for a cheap round with available AM tee times this is the place. The greens are kept up okay, but the fairways are rough, even for a public course.

Cow Pasture
This course has been on the decline for years. I think its finally on its last leg. Every aspect of this course is bad. The bathrooms with sinks that do not work , the fairways , greens , tee boxes . Its all a mess.

Willowick
Weather perfect. Tee'd off right on time. Pace was good. Tee boxes good. Greens good. Roughs okay. Fairways fair. There were many places on fairway where it was hard pan. Haven't had any rain in SoCal in a few months & even that last was minimal. Still no snack shack, that's not the fault of the course though. Gatorades avail from front desk. For the money still good. Great local course.

Short course, with a good layout.
I had not played here in awhile and found with the exception of the greens that the course was in the worst shape that I have ever seen. Mud everywhere, especially in front of greens and there was very little grass on the fairways. We had to play lift clean and find a patch of grass to make our round tolerable. However; the weather was great and we had a good day on the course anyway.

Gopher hole paradise!
Horrible conditions! Rumor had a years ago they were going to close it for a housing track. Gopher holes everywhere and very very bumpy terrain. Back breaker for sure in a cart. No fairways just pretty much dirt. Played a lot in the 90's here and not even close to those conditions.
