About
Opened in 1929, Willowick Golf Course in Santa Ana is Orange County's oldest public golf course. It is a challenging layout that has garnered a quite a following over the years. The course features wide fairways and large greens that offer ample room. There aren’t any water hazards a few strategically placed sand traps come into play and there are also mature trees lining the fairways. Golfers will get to practice a variety of different shots on this course. It is player-friendly enough for high-handicappers but there are still some challenges for low handicappers. The excellent condition of the greens and fairways are inviting no matter what your skill level. In addition to the golf course, Willowick also offers a grass driving range and three practice putting greens.

Conditioning is pretty poor
Decent layout, convenient location, but has been let go for so long that don't think it can ever be rehabbed back. assuming that it is going to be sold off for development...

First Time / Last Time
I was excited to try this course that I had never played. I was unable to get a tee time anywhere else before 2:00pm when I made this reservation at 10:30am. Now I think know why - this course is completely run down. Most of the fairways are gopher infested, hard-pan, dirt, etc - I imagined this is what a moon walk would look like with all the craters. At least the greens were decent!
One of the people in my foursome told me that this golf course is going to be sold for some kind of development - so maybe that's the reason it is being left to run down? Was glad to be able to get 18 holes in on the shortest day of the year.
I doubt I will return to play this course again.

Hazards hazards hazards
Course was torn up. Dirt patches everywhere. Fairways were made up of patches or grass, dirt, and mud. Not worth the money.

On the verge...
This course is on the verge of needing to be shut down and have a major overhaul for player safety. Tee boxes to the next hole are very close to the previous hole green with no protective netting. Hole #1 and Tee Box #2 especially. Fairways look and feel more like an off rode vehicle course. It was hard to determine if I was in the "Rough" because it looked the same as the fairway. I think I would have been more comfortable riding an ATV vs. the golf cart. Cart paths are either non existant or very beat up. I saw many gopher holes and gophers while on the course on Sunday. With some time and lots of care this course could be restored to an excellent Santa Ana course. As it is now, it is surely one to be skipped.

Needs work
Fairways not good shape at all. Liked the layout. Greens serviceable. Panay slow had a 6some on the course. Believe cours is being closed

At least I played
If you're looking for a course that you can probably get a tee time , this is it the course. It's a low budget city course so is not maintained very well. But Hey I was able to get a tee time for Sunday. But I can play for this price at a lot of nicer courses it should be cheaper. But it is Winter and since everybody and their mother is playing during Covid, if you want a tee time come and get it

Can't really beat the price, but....
Really flat, open course for a price you can't really find in the OC area, but the course is not in good condition. Playable, but not really enjoyable. I must say that the fairways are in really bad shape, but can't complain for the money! If you are on a budget and just want to play a round (not necessarily enjoy it), then go for it!

Fairways are dirt. Rest is good enough
First time playing. Heard people saying the fairways were beat up, and it was true but the greens weren’t bad at all. Pace was good. We were able to take our time each hole and got course done in 4 hours. Overall good experience. Will be back.
