About
Opened in 1929, Willowick Golf Course in Santa Ana is Orange County's oldest public golf course. It is a challenging layout that has garnered a quite a following over the years. The course features wide fairways and large greens that offer ample room. There aren’t any water hazards a few strategically placed sand traps come into play and there are also mature trees lining the fairways. Golfers will get to practice a variety of different shots on this course. It is player-friendly enough for high-handicappers but there are still some challenges for low handicappers. The excellent condition of the greens and fairways are inviting no matter what your skill level. In addition to the golf course, Willowick also offers a grass driving range and three practice putting greens.

Regular Muni Course
This is an old course with tree-lined, greens are not bad but there is not much grass in the fairways. It’s an okay course for practice.

Awful
Decided to give this course another chance. Booked a tee time ahead of time only to show up and have three groups ahead of mine. We started late, and it got really backed up on the second hole which is a par 3. There were 5 groups ahead of us by this time. Very poor course management and it seemed like they were just letting walk on come and play.

Decent course for the money, but....
Sadly, with the status of Willowick GC in doubt, it is not very well maintained. The grass on the fairways and greens is terrible, and the cart paths are all broken and uneven. Pace of play was fine, and I really like the layout. It has several challenging holes. So for the price it’s fine, but I wish they would make an effort to maintain the fairways and greens better.
Also, there is always a lot of mud. So it looks like they have issues with the sprinkler system.

Players
Course is decent. A lot of holes and mud. You will wait 15 minutes just to hit if you are behind a 4 some. No one fixes their holes on the green. People will not let you play ahead, depends if they are nice or just arrogant.

Not Augusta, Not Nearly As Bad As The Hate Given
What do you expect? This is a muni with very, VERY fair rates. Pretty solid greens and a nice staff. Carts were clean. I will be back at this rate.

Terrible Golf Experience
This was our first attempt at playing Willowick and it will be our last. Homeless people wandering around all over the course. Literally while we were on the 10th tee box someone was tagging (graffiti) a wall behind us staring us down. Course was muddy and in bad shape. Homeless camped out in the only bathroom on the course. They ran out of range balls by 8:30am. Overall a very tight course where tee boxes are literally 10 yards from greens. I got hit in the mouth with an errant shot. Avoid this place at all costs.
Great course for the money
Super cool, easy course with tricky protected greens by bunkers and some longer trees. Super straight and wide fairways. Recommended course for the money and for beginner golfers.

Playable
Course is playable, but not much more than that. Tee boxes were decent, greens were ok, but often times, swampy, cart path goes off into mud/dirt/just stops. Unintentional sand traps in the middle of fairways (very dead grass), etc. freeway construction immediately adjacent to the course is very noisy. This would be close to my last choice in OC.
