The newly renovated Claw at USF, named thus for its many doglegged fairways, offers a distinct layout that seamlessly winds through moss draped oaks and towering pines on pristine Florida preservation land. You will enjoy the fact that there are no houses crowding the fairways. Located at the University of South Florida, this manicured course is home to alligators, deer, turkeys and many other rare inhabitants. You will feel like you are playing in the heart of a nature preserve. "The Claw" is also home to the nationally ranked men's and women's USF Golf Teams. Elevated greens and new Tif-Dwarf putting surface, will test your finesse and shot making ability.

Not what I remember
Played this course many times as I went to school there
This used to be one of the top courses in the county in regards to difficulty and conditioning. It has basically gone to seed. The pro shop and Rocky's grill are gone.
The teeing areas and fairways are not in very good condition. Some of the greens are just awful. Needs a lot of work before I would consider returning
They should be ashamed to even book tee times for this place!!. Course is in horrible condition to the tee boxes fairways and greens!! Carts are just as bad . The first one we had broke down after 9 holes the 2nd one they gave us had NO brakes at all . We literally had to hold it on a hill of any kind!!
No clubhouse they are operating out of a shipping container!!
total disgrace!!!!!! went in to talk to pro about it (not to be found) USF should be ashamed The head of the collage should walk over and look what r
not enough time but if i were GOLFNOW I would not send another customer there!!!!!!!! GROUNDS are a DISGRACE!!!!!!!

Getting better
New carts and course looking much better .
Been playing here little over 3 years
Much better condition
I haven't played here in 6 mo due to the poor condition of the course. it was in the best overall condition that I have seen in a long time this past weekend.
Number 1 issue. I would be embarrassed with the conditions of the already embarrassing porta-potties. They both were in the condition that one could assume that they have not been cleaned in the last 6 months.
But the course was in pretty good shape. Had to wait on a cart, but I would probably play here again if the price is right.
Friendly staff
Friendly greeting and efficient check in. Beautiful weather and the course is in good shape.
Nice course
The course and people were very good, the facilities were not
Poorly Maintained & Managed
I guess the old adage is true ‘you get what you pay for’ so this was inexpensive to play but the conditions & the course management leaves a lot to be desired.
Staff unprofessional & restroom facilities very unhygienic. Looks like a course that has been abandoned for a couple years unfortunately.
Course is in good shape; however…
Played the claw 3x over the holidays. Condition of the golf course itself is good; however, the golf carts were a wreck and in need of replacement. Battery died after 4 holes first time, 2x had no brakes, 3x cart died after 7 holes. Seats etc., are also a mess. I know they are planning on improvements, first thing should be new golf carts.
Just meh
Green and bunkers were poor condition. Challenging course; a few tight fairways. Can’t complain for $27 weekday afternoon greens fees
Is USF going to invest any money in this?
Greens were better than last year.
Tee boxes leave a lot to be desired.
Fairways were either dirt or swamp.
Golf cart made it…fingers were crossed.
Just under $70 for a twosome…
Used to play here 3-5 times a year…hopefully next year the University spends some money to make this a good course to play again.
USF Spend some $$$
USF cheapskates need to spend some money on this course or sell it to someone who will! Clubhouse and cart barn was condemned by the city and unusable. The cart I was given had no brakes which I refused Who in their right minds would go to this division 1 school for golf? What an embarrassment! I do love the 18 hole layout and very challenging from the tips. Had to wait for cart because they didn’t have enough and was told the cart barn was hit by lightning and they lost a bunch of carts. Tee boxes were furry, fairways not enough grass and greens were okay with a bunch with sand on top of disease
