The newly renovated Claw at USF, named thus for its many doglegged fairways, offers a distinct layout that seamlessly winds through moss draped oaks and towering pines on pristine Florida preservation land. You will enjoy the fact that there are no houses crowding the fairways. Located at the University of South Florida, this manicured course is home to alligators, deer, turkeys and many other rare inhabitants. You will feel like you are playing in the heart of a nature preserve. "The Claw" is also home to the nationally ranked men's and women's USF Golf Teams. Elevated greens and new Tif-Dwarf putting surface, will test your finesse and shot making ability.

Water, water everywhere!
I’ve played this course many times, but it’s been some time. I’ve never seen such extensive flooding all over the course. It made it tough for the grounds crews to properly maintain the course. Thankfully though, there were no restrictions for carts, but you really had to be careful where you drove.
Course Conflicts
The Claw is a challenging course layout but, the tee boxes and several greens need a lot of work. I like this course. It is deceptively challenging but, if the course continues to slide it is a problem. One good item, the greens on the back nine seem to be better than the front and maybe there is hope that the greens, tee boxes, and fairways will improve. One last note. While we are faced with heavy rains in the summer months, the greenside sand traps were like hitting off concrete. Please work to bring back this great course.
Good Course
We played early on a Saturday morning as a twosome and were able play at our own pace which is fast.
The course was in good condition, not excellent. Greens were a little slow.
Good value.
Only back 9
Front nine were down due to aeration that was not publicized until arrival.
In bad shape.
The course was in very bad condition, a lot of dirt. The greens, tees, fairways and even the rough was missing a lot of grass. We had to move our ball to have a good try at a putt on numerous greens. To pricey for condition and played very slow 5 hours is a little long
The Claw
I don't now what is going on ith the green maintenece. I have seen worse after a stormy season. Hopefully, management will ring this course back to it's former glory!!
Too bad...Course burn up
This nicely laid out course has gone the way of many local courses.
Lack of water on the course has ruined many greens and even some fairways. Too bad for such a course with so much potential.
Not the worst, should be better
Course should be way better for this time of the year. Love the layout and the raised greens but every fairway is like cow pasture. Several shots out of the fairway might as well have been out if a sand trap. Greens were rough and slow. Love the layout, just wish the university would spend the money to get it in good shape.
Challenging Layout, good value for your money
It seems this course gets a lot of play so I can't complain too much about the conditions. The greens can be a bit slow at times, but mostly roll well. The course presents some tight, tough holes that make for some risk/reward shots.
The greens are small, so your approach shots must be solid, and many holes feature large sand traps that can be quite the challenge. The cart guys are super friendly and always nice. The offer super cheap deals through their texting program and even a standard round is pretty cheap. If you're in the area it's tough to beat for the value/price.
Tough and Sparse
I am a senior, novice golfer. The Claw was very difficult for me. I was in trouble most of the round.
The grass was very sparse throughout the course. There were also a number of overhanging trees that got in my way.
Generally speaking, it was a frustrating experience for me.
First and last time I'll ever play here
Very poor condition fairways , greens bumpy .
I should have known better, you get what you pay for.
USF condition
The tee boxes and some of the greens were not in good shape at all. I really like this course and hope they get it back into good shape. I am aware that they get a lot of play on it but I still think they can get it in shape with a little hard work.
it's been better
overall condition is fair ... some greens show virus
The Claw Challenges One's Course Management
This was the second time our foursome went to The Claw. Although the course could use some TLC (like more grass on the greens and more level tee boxes), its biggest assets are its challenges to be smart about course management, especially the back nine. The price was paid was awesome and the weather was great. The staff was friendly and the pace of play ideal.
Not what it used to be.
Have been playing this course the past 3 years, & this is the worst shape that I’ve seen the course in. It has consistently gone down hill not only with the up keep of the amenities but also with the maintenance of the greens. It’s tough to imagine that a course that is the Home course for a NCAA divison 1 golf team, but is a course frequented by many local & visiting golfers. It is a course that could be better than where it is presently. I may go back but it will be awhile before I do.
Great Round of Golf
First time playing the Claw, the course was in fair condition but the pace of play was excellent. The front 9 are wide open with very little water, the back tightens up a but with some water. We had a great day!
Thank you for playing The Claw and for providing your feedback. Our team is working hard to improve course conditions this summer so that we can give every guest an outstanding golf experience. We hope to see you again soon!
