The newly renovated Claw at USF, named thus for its many doglegged fairways, offers a distinct layout that seamlessly winds through moss draped oaks and towering pines on pristine Florida preservation land. You will enjoy the fact that there are no houses crowding the fairways. Located at the University of South Florida, this manicured course is home to alligators, deer, turkeys and many other rare inhabitants. You will feel like you are playing in the heart of a nature preserve. "The Claw" is also home to the nationally ranked men's and women's USF Golf Teams. Elevated greens and new Tif-Dwarf putting surface, will test your finesse and shot making ability.

The course was great
The first nine was slow because of the people in front but at the last 9 they went into the club house and we got in front and finish fairly quick.
Great course
The CLAW is a top golf course. Suggest you play forward tees if your handicap greater than 9.
nice course in Tampa
The course was very nice. Greens in good shape, fairways a bit thin in some places, but overall good. The range was irons only. We had a nice sandwich in the clubhouse after the round. No drink cart, no ranger. You are on your own, which is fine with us, but a ranger could have been helpful with a very slow group.
Fun to play
Greens were fast, but had just been fertlized. It was a very fun day.
Not much room for errors
Great challenge, staff was very friendly and helpful. Left the course after 15 holes as we had been out there for 5 hours at that point. Would like to try it again and will at some point.
The Claw
Extremely slow round. Some nice approach shots to greens. Course conditions poor in late Feb., greens very fast, small, with not much undulation. Good course for starting out your golf after a long winter away from golf.
Challenging
We had assumed that since it was connected to the USF that the course would be in an immaculate condition.
We enjoyed our round, it was challenging yet fun!
If you want special treatment know the starter
Ive played this course many times and never experienced what I did during this round. Our group not only got started 30 minutes late because of a backup on the first tee we had to wait at ever hole and for almost every shot for the group in front of us. They weren't playing slow it was just that backed up. I know this happens its the nature of golf. What got me was when we made the turn, there was a group of two on the tee box that weren't in front of us on the front 9. I went back to the starter and asked if you are letting people start on the back. His response was a stern "NO" . I then stated well theirs a twosome that just teed off in front of us. The starter responded "oh yeah I let them tee off" Needless to say the twosome was terrible and there ended up being a 1 1/2 hole gap between them and the group in front of them. A 5 1/2 hour round ...NICE... Terrible course management.
Great possibilities
Needs work, but there is potential. I would recommend this course if they put some work into it. Greens were better than expected relative to the rest of the course.
great course great value
Very good layout, challenging shots to elevated greens, nice fairways & greens, can get muddy in rain,
No ranger No Golf Ettequette
Sign for 18 and got 9 and paid more for 18. Very slow and North of boarder people very bad people. I did hit up once on them and said sorry. Than some one from 18 hit by this guy on 17 and he came back to me and said I hit by him again and I told him he picked up the guys ball from 18. I let the guy know from 18 hole that this clown picked up his ball. What a day.
The Claw is in Great Shape....What it Was 15-20 Years Ago
The Claw is defintely challenging. Narrow fairways with lots of trees, some water. Greens are generally very elevated, not huge, and right now are fast but a lofted ball will stick.
Course is in excellent condition. Back to the condition of many years ago, both fairways and greens. Hurrah!
Lots of diverse wildlife including a couple of huge gators.
Note: It rained the night before and there were some muddy spots....otherwise my course condition rating would have been excellent.
HIt it straight or else!
A great course at a great price. Tee to green everything was in very good condition. This course definitely makes you pay attention to your tee shot! Driver can stay in the bag on most holes which makes the course play longer. If you love walking do it here! They are very receptive to walkers and it's a very nice walk! USF has a great Campus course here and I look forward to coming back!
Really iked this course
Not played here before but worth the 45 minute ride.staff were so friendly & helpful. Not a great fan of water so this course suited us perfectly.Nice long fairways very fast greens really enjoyed the round will come back.
Drive it crooked? Bring extra balls.
The Claw at USF is a great track. At first glance it looks short on the card, but this par 71 challenges your driver off the tee. Very few holes where a wide miss can salvage a par. Crowned greens repel balls offline and water hazards are waiting with open arms. That said with the right management of your game, this course is a lot of fun.
Great day & Great course!
Staff was beyond nice & spent time giving us the lowdown! An over abundance of rain hit the course the night before- so we were required to stay on the cart paths & rightfully so! This attributed to the lengthy time to play 18 holes, but it was not a factor as to our enjoyment of the course. Wildlife was abundant including a few size able Gators. We will definitely revisit USF.
The claw
A friendly course but challenging as some of the holes require course management more than others.
great course excellent green condition
Course was in good condition and greens superb conditions, ranger wasn't to friendly with guest at all
The Claw got me
First time on the course and there was a steady drizzle. Some holes were restricted to cart path only as the ground was a bit soggy. Overall the course was good and a real challenge. Well worth the price.
Not GolfNow Quality
It had been years since playing this course and we will never waste our money on it again! Everything that could be bad about a course was bad here except for the cute girl in the pro shop!!!!
