Ocotillo Golf Club - White/Gold
About
If you come to Arizona to play desert golf, forget about Ocotillo. Ocotillo is a refreshing change of pace from most of the Valley's courses precisely because it isn't surrounded by desert.
The White Course is the most unique of the three. It has only one par 5, and the water is a factor on just five of the holes. But it also has the best hole on the property -- the 479-yard, par-4 ninth, which used to be an easy par 5 but is now a treacherous finishing touch.
The Gold nine is a devilish test and not just because water comes into play on six of the holes. The greens have a lot of slope in them and are difficult to read. And some pin placements are brutal; hit a downhill putt two feet past the
hole, and it might roll down into a swale and 30 feet by. Uphill putts, on the other hand, are extremely difficult to get to the hole, if for no other reason than Ocotillo's greens aren't as fast as some of the Valley's marquee desert courses.

Florida type golf in Arizona
Very high quality golf facility. Course is in great shape, greens fairways are lush and perfect. Tap room, staff and starter are all fantastic representatives of the course. This course is not a desert course, lots of water here. Lots of memorable hole. 1, 10 and 18 are fun holes
Worth the drive
I found this to be an excellent value course in the greater Phoenix area. There is lots of variety in the three nines available and all were in excellent shape the day we played. Warming up, there is an extensive practice area, with the practice greens mirroring the pace and texture of the course greens, which isn’t always the case. We’ll be back for sure
If you haven’t played here... you should
Great track, excellent service and amenities, everything you could ask for and more.
over crowded
Had to wait for a cart for our 12:25 tee time.
The staff was pleasant but confused about how to handle the crush of players. Heard they booked 360 rounds that day from an employee!!!
5 plus hours for our round, never saw a marshal except at the start. He was good.
played here twice before. Never this over booked.
Great track!
We’ve played this course many times when we travel down for some sunshine and love it. Great staff and amenities. I was a little disappointed in some of the course conditions however. I don’t recall muddy and dead areas. Still had a great time with a fun couple we met.
Idaho Lefty
Water, Water, Water
I had not played this course in about 10 years and all I could remember was water. This time, all the water was still there but really you should be able to play around it. I am a 17 handicap and only lost 2 balls, one of those in the water fall on Blue #9, the other up in a tree (it never came down). Sadly the wind caused some issues at 22mph gusting to 40+ mph, we probably should have rescheduled to get the best experience but we didn’t.
All staff were great from check in to cart ladies but the starter was especially welcoming and helpful. I especially liked his comment “we have 27 holes at Ocotillo and 24 have water opportunities”, opportunities, that’s a classic. We paid $55 and for sure a good value with the course in very good condition vs many that are very dry in the valley following a long drought but I guess they do have lots of access to water at Ocotillo!
A Wonderful Golf Course
This is by far one of my most favored courses. It is in exceptional shape. It certainly helps to play with someone who knows the layout as there is plenty of water to consume your golf balls. This course will remain on my MUST play list each tome I return to the area.
Bunkers need attention
Everything was very nice, from the staff to the layout. However; there was only a dusting of sand in the multiple bunkers I found. One even had the matting of the underlayment showing. It was like playing off a concrete cart path, while needing to clear a 3 foot fence.
The course has enough difficulty for the intermediate golfer as well as for a higher handicapped player
Course is in great shape, give credit to the greens keepers on having almost perfect greens
This course needs to have complimentary range balls.
The prices are high enough that the range balls should be complimentary. Expect to find water with inaccurate golf shots.
Love this course
Can’t go wrong here. Course in great shape, staff is great. You won’t find a course as nice for this price. I highly recommend.
Does anyone work here?
Wife, friends, and I have played Ocotillo for a number of years, have always loved the course and staffs.
Not so much anymore, this may be our last time playing at Ocotillo after over 100 rounds there.
Arrived 12:30 PM at the bag drop. One staff member was within a few yards of us, hosing down golf carts. 3 or 4 minutes standing there, never made eye contact, as if we were invisible. I pulled and stacked our bags myself at the rack while hose boy and one other staff member continued to perform their busy work. 2 staff members, no acknowledgement of our presence. 3rd staff member (seemed to perhaps be a manager), stayed a few yards back in the shop, within eyesight and earshot of ourselves. Go figure, no notice of us, the only two customers present.
We left for the pro shop, hopefully someone would eventually assign us a cart and secure our bags to it. (They did not, wife had to go find someone later in order to obtain a cart).
Pro Shop, similar disinterest from staff member and management behind the counter.
Course conditions: Greens OK, somewhat beat up, but scratch that up to heavy traffic.
Fairways - dry, short, large brown spots, some are now just dirt. NOT the Ocotillo of years past. Mediocre at best.
Tee Boxes (White) - beat up, chewed up, bumps and holes. Poor
Sand Traps - all but one were closer to concrete than sand. Could not hit a normal sand trap shot out of any bunker. Hard crust, better to try and putt it out.
Restaurant: At about 12:40 PM, went to have lunch and meet our third for the day before our round.
Inside: no staff to be found, stood for about 5 minutes. Went outside and seated ourselves. 15 minutes after we arrived, server with whom we had previously had good service from, appeared. There was one other group drinking outside, one group inside, so 3 tables total to serve. 1/2 hour after our arrival (tee time now getting close), food arrived. My quesadilla served cold. Not warm, cold.
Poor service/quality/attitudes is indicative of poor management. Ocotillo needs a major overhaul.
