Desert Canyon Golf Club
About
Nestled within Fountain Hills, the course at the Desert Canyon Golf Club offers a championship course with a variety of elevation changes with views canyon and mountain views. It is a desert-style course with some elevated tees and open fairways that play tight with a few doglegs. Water bunkers come into play on a few holes as well as numerous well-positioned sand bunkers. From nearly every hole on the golf course, views of the signature fountain in Fountain Hills, which is the world's tallest fountain at 550 feet, can be seen.

Not as Advertised!
After reading the reviews I expected an excellent layout with great conditioning. I was somewhat disappointed. If I didn't get a hot deal on GolfNow I would have been quite upset! A couple of nice holes but that's about it. It was 93 degrees and we didn't see the beverage cart once. Played with a nice couple from Boston so that helped anyway.
Signage
First time playing this course. It's abit confusing at 5 and 6 and then coming back to 8. Poor signage unless I missed something
Rush Rush Rush
Beautiful course. Too bad they put the tee times too close together. We were pushed the entire round and we are not slow golfers. We were all throughly discussed by the time we finished in 3 hours and 20 minutes.
Very nice little course
Since temps were in the mid-90s, we started our round at 3:00 and played just 9 holes. It was our first experience at Desert Canyon and we were very pleased. The course is in great shape and very scenic, and although it winds among residential areas it feels wide open, unlike other courses in the PHX metro area. The greens can be challenging, but the course itself is not difficult or particularly long, which I appreciate. We'll definitely be back, and soon.
Very Nice Course
Played on a Friday afternoon for first time and came in just shy of 4 hours. A fun layout, with some nice views, the course was in very good shape. The tee boxes were a touch beat up but not really an issue. My only disappointment was that the food stand at 10 was closed when we arrived (before 3) even though I had asked earlier if I could get something at the turn. I will play this course again despite it being a 40 minute drive for me.
Love this course
I can't say it any other way - I just love this course. Grest staff, good warm up areas, a challenging but fair course, good rolling greens, fairly priced. What more do you want. This is definitely one of my "must go to" courses when friends come to town.
Unsatisfactory
I have played this course a few times and had kept coming back because the course is beautiful and it's close to home.
Yesterday I had 3 guests with me visiting from WI. I was excited to introduce them to this course as I have enjoyed playing here in the past. Unfortunately we were a bit disappointed by a couple things:
- we played this round on a hot deals discount via Golf Now, $68.00, great rate. Typical rates this time of year are $86.00+. We also needed one set of clubs, ladies. The clubs they charged us $30 to rent were in horrible shape. When spending near $100 a round for golf, you should be able to expect a decent set of clubs to use, especially if they are charging a rental fee.
- they offer a great food ordering service at the 8th hole, which you can pick up at the turn to avoid taking too much time in between the front and back. We ordered 4 sandwiches and when we made the turn to pick up food and replenish beverages, the food hadn't been started. Waitstaff stated that no one saw the ticket so it would be a wait. They offered to bring it out to us but there wasn't follow up to that after it was originally offered. We waited about 15-20 mins.
- once we received our food we were on our way. At that time, one of the golf staff told our group we were a hole and a half behind, so he had to let the group behind us go ahead. I found this very hard to believe as we waited for the group in front of us at nearly every hole on the front 9. We explained this and also told him about the food mishap. When we got to 10, we now had to wait for both the group that was originally in front of us and now the group he allowed to play through....only benefit here is it allowed us to eat! Our tee time was at 11:45 and our round was finished right around 4:00. A 4-hour round of golf, 18 holes is pretty typical, if not longer. Our pace of play was slowed on the back due to waiting again at every hole. We weren't appreciative of the conversation the ranger had with us, the action to allow a team play through when everyone was waiting and the lack of acknowledgement or apology for the food being missed.
Great layout, bring your thinking cap
Desert Canyon is true to its name, winding through a canyon that provides many different shot challenges, including a number of pretty significantly elevated tee boxes. Bring your range finder and know how to use it! Greens are smooth and pretty quick, so plan your approach. The view from the grill patio is beautiful.
First timers
It was the first time any from my group had played this course so it was a learning experience for all. The course conditions were very good, amenities and facilities just OK but as we are there to play golf that part of the deal was.good! The group in front of us were a bit slow but it seems the staff thought we were lagging, which wasn't true and as there was no cart girl we were unable to catch a cold drink at the turn as a member from the staff cane out and told us to keep moving - even though we had a group in front and no one really pushing behind.
Rush rush rush
We had a tee time at 7:00 AM. The first tee time was 645. We were waiting for the golfers and then they sent us off in their absence. They then arrived and were pushing us. We were then told to let them through. We are not slow golfers but we were being constantly pushed for no reason except that they booked smaller groups around us. We could barely enjoy the beauty of the course or the surrounding mountain views. This frustrated us all in our foursome and frankly couldn't wait to finish. For the cost of the round we did not believe we got our money's worth. Poor course management. Round was finished in 3:20. It is a beautiful course but we did not have a good time.
NICE COURSE - BAD SWING
Your course needs a Marshall to hurry play, otherwise the golf course was in great shape and the greens are running true. Kudos to the head groundskeeper!!!
Beautiful views
Course is built through the canyon. Views were great. A few holes had some interesting elevations. We played with a couple that was familiar with the course. That always helps. Speed of play was steady. took little over 4 hrs. very playable course for all levels of players.
