Kokopelli Golf Course

About
Located a short distance from Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix and Arizona State University, Kokopelli Golf Course is a championship length course that offers many interesting challenges. The rolling terrain creates sloping greens and undulating fairways. A majority of the teeboxes and greens are elevated as well. The course also has large multiple island tees and water hazards in the form of meandering lakes that come into play on several holes. The signature hole of Kokopelli Golf Course is the par-5 18th hole. The dramatic finishing hole calls for a shot off an elevated too followed by an approach shot past water to an elevated green.

Horrible condition
They have holes closed and don't tell you when booking. Greens are extremely inconsistent, rough and seems like they were aerated but not recovered. Mud, dirt, and clover weeds throughout the fairways. No distance markers throughout the course. For what golf prices used to be before courses started fully taking advantage of COVID prices. This is sub par. Crazy they are charging what they are for the condition it's in.

Thanks for the feedback! We’re currently working a few holes and aerating the fairways was a part of the process of bringing the grass back. In regard to the distance marker, it is something is being worked on with the maintenance team. We hope to see you again one day down the road.
Gawgeous Golf
I in joy this course for several reasons. It’s just minutes away from my condo. Has a great layout. The staff is always friendly and it’s always at a good price.

Thanks for the feedback, LADIVELVETSWING! We’re thrilled you enjoy the course, proximity, and our friendly staff. We aim for a hole-in-one experience, not just par, so let us know what we can do to bump that rating up! Just kidding (kind of). Your input helps us improve, so keep swinging and we’ll keep working on the course!
Kokopelli is still something to avoid
I go out and play this every year or so to see if it's still a mess. The answer in short - yes. Sadly they made a course that was very decent 30 years ago and made it into a goat track.

Thanks for your feedback, cmount3665! We appreciate your dedication to checking in. We're working hard to bring it back to its former glory, so maybe next year you'll find a golf course instead of a goat track. Fingers crossed!

U000004978185, we appreciate you taking the time to rate us. However, a rating without any context makes it challenging for us to understand your experience and improve. Your input is important to us and helps us enhance our services for everyone.
Old friend
This was the first golf course I played in the Phoenix area some 40 years ago. Probably had not played in the last 25 years. Very good layout with lots of moguls and some unique features. The playing areas, greens, fairways and tee boxes are in very good shape. Desert and areas outside the rough were in bad condition. On course amenities were not real great. Fun course with a very friendly pro shop attendant that was outstanding. I really enjoyed and had a very good round.

GolfWarsII, thanks for sharing your experience! We're glad you enjoyed the layout and had a great round. We're continuously working to improve all aspects of our course, and your insights help us focus our efforts. We appreciate your support and hope to see you back on the course soon for another round!
Great little course!
First time playing and it was pretty challenging. I will definitely be back!

Thanks for the great feedback! We're glad to hear you found it challenging and enjoyed your first experience. We strive to create engaging and rewarding challenges for all our visitors. Looking forward to seeing you back for another round soon!
Needs improvement
It was clear that they need to work on the course conditions. They've lost a ton of grass which leaves bare dirt. The bare dirt doesn't absorb water, so you have puddles all over the course. Some of the "lakes" have no water. In their defense, management was out on the course and to me it was obvious that they were identifying the problems and working on improvements. Many holes had no yardage markers at all. Multiple times I drove the ball right in the middle of the fairway and had to guess what I had left to the green. Hard to enjoy your round that way. No ball washers on the course, so make sure you wet a towel. It could be a nice track if they get things fixed, but I'll wait for that to happen before I play there again regardless of the price.

Hi u314164738759, we appreciate your feedback and understand your frustrations regarding the course conditions and amenities. As you saw, the team is addressing these issues head on and not shying away from the problems that we currently have. Kokopelli is dedicated to make the course the best we can and will keep working on it. Your insights on the yardage markers is something the team has discussed and will be brought up with the Maintenace team here shortly. Thank you for your insights and again, you concerns will be addressed with the team. We hope to see you again sometime soon!
Good Course @ A Good Price
Fun course layout. 6 out of 18 holes are doglegs and 4 are water holes. Fairways are getting greener and filling out nicely. Greens are very fast but fair. Excellent value for @$29 for afternoon golf. Fore!

AZstevet, we appreciate your positive feedback on the course layout and value! We're glad to hear you're enjoying the improvements in the fairways and the challenge of the greens. The Kokopelli team is committed to making Kokopelli has great as we can for the best experience for the golfers. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts, and we hope to see you back on the course soon!
Summer is coming … course is hanging on
Courses is still hanging on. The are starting to water a little much and the course floods and gets mucky in spots.
Over all course is good and in good shape!
Downfall was pace. No Marshall and a group of teens playing from the tips was killing the pace. Back 9 we had 3 groups backup up because of them.

Sreedy78, we appreciate your feedback and are glad you enjoyed the course overall. However, we take pace of play seriously and are addressing the lack of marshals to ensure a smoother experience for all. If you do have an issue on the course, please feel free to call the Pro Shop and we would be happy to assist in any way. We also understand the concern about course conditions and are actively addressing the drainage issue. Thank you for bringing these issues to our attention. Your insights help us enhance everyone's experience.
Meh
Greens in ok condition. Fairways spotty with some brown spots and lots of sitting water.

Thank you for your feedback, u000001307315. We appreciate your insights on the greens and fairways. The Maintenace team is working hard on getting the course in better condition and is dedicated to making Kokopelli the best we can. We are currently working on the drainage issue and will continue to work on them until we get them fixed. We hope to provide you with a better experience on your next visit.
Fairways were well kept, greens were consistent all day (that’s all I can feel you can ask for). Pace of play was decent no real issues or much waiting time. Some areas off the fairway were waterlogged but overall the course is in good shape.
Good Price for a Decent Course
Lots of people on the range but not too many on the course. Played the round in 3 hours. Tee boxes and greens were in excellent shape. Fairways were average with some standing water due to recent heavy watering. Ice cold water on the course!

AZstevet, we appreciate your feedback and are glad to hear you enjoyed the tee boxes, greens. However, we aim for consistently excellent fairway conditions and are addressing the standing water issue. Your experience is important to us, and we’re committed to improving every aspect of the course. Thank you for sharing your observations!
Muddy, over-watered track.
I cannot recommend this course. The mud on the front 9 was terrible. The "sand" traps were filled with mud that caked our shoes. There was no sand in the traps. Had to pick the mud out of the cleats with a tee. Had to tip-toe around the course to avoid the standing water and mud. The back 9 was slightly dryer. Not fun.

U260259724, we appreciate your feedback and apologize for your experience. We strive to maintain our course to the highest standards, and it’s clear we fell short during your visit. Your comments about the conditions will be addressed with our maintenance team to ensure improvements. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, as we are committed to providing a better experience for all our guests.
Save your money
This course is in need of some major help. Use to play it a lot when I lived in the area 5 years ago. Even back then, it was a marginally ok course. Fast forward to now - this place is an absolute dump. Course conditions are horrible. Many fairways are half dirt, half grass. Greens were to only thing that seem to be decent. The phrase “cow pasture” came to mind several times as I was playing. It’s just a very tired and run down course. The $45 green fee for late afternoon tee time seemed like a bargain at the time of booking…… after playing it, it seems like highway robbery.

Ddezeller, we appreciate your feedback and take your concerns seriously. We are committed to improving the course conditions and are actively working on enhancements. Your experience is not what Kokopelli strives for, but we will continue to work on course conditions. We hope you might reconsider visiting us again in the future to see the progress we make. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Hi swishera,
Thanks for noticing our cutting-edge strategy — we like to keep parts of the course dry enough to roll fast and others damp enough to practice splash shots. It’s not chaos… it’s intentional turf artistry. 🎨⛳️
In all seriousness, our grounds crew works hard to balance playability with Mother Nature’s moods (even when she’s not participating). But if we ever figure out how to customize every square foot to everyone’s liking, we’ll be sure to patent it.!
