About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2019.
The Club West Golf Club offers 18 holes on a Brian Whitcomb-designed golf course that was originally built in 1993 and measures 7,142 yards from the championship tees on a par-72 golf course.
Club West Golf Club claims the 17th as its signature hole. It features double-greens, tees elevated 100 feet above the course and vistas of South Mountain and of the Estrella Mountain Range; players ought to pick the green they desire and then check the yardage. If the wind isn't blowing you back, pick one less club than usual, aim right and swing smoothly.
After the round, head over to the Club West Golf Club's clubhouse, which is the gorgeous home of the Lakeside Grille, which serves breakfast and lunch inside the stunning dining room or on a spacious patio featuring a fireplace and lake view.

Where is the grass
Dry....hitting off hardpan in the fairways. Won't return
Club West 2016
Always fun to play this course. I drive 40 minutes to play this course.
Great Golf Day
Particularly enjoyed the last few holes, especially # 17, the long down hill Par 3.
club west
the course was in great shape and very fun to play, price was decent but the pace of play was on the slow side, it took 4 hrs. and 45 minutes for 18 holes.
Club West
Every hole at Club West is different. No holes are even very similar. Good solid golf for the money.
Club West, Phx
Nice course, friendly staff and great service
Good neighborhood course with S Mtn view
Overall a nice local course to play. Great views of Phoenix's South Mountain range. Good layout with some challenges on each 9. Tee'd off behind schedule and finished the last couple holes in near-dark condition.
Fairway Grass?
I decided again this weekend to try a different course. The course is some travel from about anywhere in the Valley, but it looked intriguing. I arrived late having taken a wrong turn so I did not have a chance to warm up (hence no perspective on the driving range). Nevertheless, I took hold and swung away. The course is laid out fairly nicely. There are elevation changes on almost every hole, so distance adjustments and club selection become quite critical. One thing I noticed fairly early is that the grass had no depth. It was like it was pasted down to the soil underneath. I couldn't figure out if it was mowed short or just laid down that way. Nevertheless, the ball was never sitting up as you would normally want. Hence, I struggled a bit with ball contact all day. As for the greens, they were all grown out, but bumpy. Had a couple of holes stolen from me as the ball bumbled its way to a stop short of the hole. At the end of the day, the course was decent enough, but I probably will not be traveling that far out of my way to play it again. Better conditions of the fairway grass may have made a difference, but not with grass and greens like I played on this day.
Finishing Holes
Great track with super cool finishing holes. Fun course!
Fun round of golf
We really enjoyed the course. There is some course management required, it helped to play with someone who knew the course. Course was in great condition and has some fabulous views. We would return!
Back nine is the real gem
Playing as a twosome, we teed off on Feb. 28, 2016 at 1:15pm, which was our booked tee time. It took 4.5hrs to finish, as we waited on every shot. The only employee we met on the course was the bag drop guy who acknowledged it was slow but was nothing he could do. A marshal could have recognized a whole hole gap between some groups and got the offending groups to pick up the pace of play. We had lunch before our round and the food was great but there was no on-course beverage cart. The clubhouse was closed when we finished, and the only bathrooms were closed due to a plumbing issue. It would have been nice to have been able to use a functioning bathroom. This was the 3rd round in our 4 round golf trip. It was the stand out course due to the course conditions, scenic views and playability. The greens were consistent if not a little thin on grass, but good speed. The bunkers were raked and fairways closely cropped. The front nine was nothing spectacular, with the 7th and 8th holes being the best. Where the course really shined was on the back nine, in particular 15-18. Significant elevation changes and spectacular views make this a great course to play. With forced carries, and some tight holes this is a great course for intermediate and advanced golfers. Great value for money ($39 on golfnow). We would play again at this price.
Great Value
Course was excellent, staff was friendly....but washrooms were filthy I brought it up as a complaint
LONG LONG TIME TO PLAY
WE DECIDED TO PLAY THIS COURSE BECAUSE WE WANTED TO PLAY A NICE COURSE. WE HAVE PLAYED THIS COURSE IN PREVIOUS YEARS AND FOUND IT TO BE A GOOD GOLF COURSE.
HOW TIMES HAVE CHANGED WE STARTED AT 130 P.M. WE PLAYED THE FRONT NINE IN 2 HOURS WHICH IS OK , WE HAD A SINGLE JOIN US AT ABOUT THE 6TH HOLE . WHEN WE PLAYED THE BACK NINE PLAY CAME TO A HALT AT THE PAR 5 12TH HOLE. WHEN WE ARRIVED AT THE TEE THERE WERE 2 FOURSOMES AT THE TEE BOX 2 FOURSOMES ON THE FAIRWAY AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS. AND 1 FOURSOME ON THE GREEN. THAT MEANT THERE WERE 6 GROUPS PLAYING THE SAME HOLE. I HAVE BEEN PALYING GOLF FOR 53 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE. AFTER WAITING 15 MIN. THE LINE DID NOT MOVE SO WE DECIDED WE WOULD PLAY THE FRON NINE AGAIN . WE WENT TO THE STARTING AREA AND ASKED THE BAGBOY WHO WAS ALSO THE STARTER IF WE COULD PLAY THE FRONT NINE AGAIN BECAUSE OF THE SLOW PLAY ON THE BACK NINE . HE TOLD US THE COURSE IS OVERBOOKED AND THE PLAY IS REALY SLOW. I ASKED IF THEY HAD A RANGER TO MONITOR PLAY AND HE SAID NO THEY DID NOT HAVE ONE. HE SAID WE COULD PLAY THE FRONT AGAIN BUT WARNED IT WOULD BE SLOW ALSO. WE THREW CAUTHION TO THE WIND AND WENT TO THE FIRST HOLE. WE MANAGED TO PLAY 2 HOLES BEFORE IT BOGGED DOWN AGAIN AND WE SAW NO CHANCE OF FINISHING OUR ROUND OF GOLF SO WE QUIT AT 515 P.M. SO WE PAID $90.00 TO BASICALLY PLAY 9 HOLES OF GOLF. THIS OUTING WAS FOR MY WIFES BIRTHDAY SO I GOT TO HEAR ABOUT IT FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS BECAUSE I HAD CHOSEN THE COURSE TO PLAY. I WILL NOT CHOOSE THIS COURSE IN THE FUTURE AND ADVISE YOU NOT TO EITHER UNLESS YOU ENJOY PAYING $45.00 FOR 9 HOLES OF VERY SLOW GOLF
Course needs attention
Course needs attention, looks to me like they only water once per week. The fairways are like playing on an airport runway. There is zero sand in the bunkers, and the greens have barely any grass on them. It is really too bad since the course has a great layout, but under the current conditions the course is almost unplayable.
After the round we confronted the guest staff about the conditions on the course and they were very evasive and aggressive towards us to say the least. In fact we were afraid they may punch us for saying bad things about the course. We left in a hurry.
The course is undergoing a sale process and it looks like the currents owners have decided to cut back on all the maintenance until after the sale.
Poor condition
Not spending any money on the course. You should of seen the beat up range balls!
Fun course
The course was in very good condition and was challenging. we finished 18 in 4 hours riding carts. No tricky hazards but plenty of challenges. 15 and 17 are very fun holes with significant drops and carries over desert.
average course
Course played okay, but rough fairways, tees and greens. Needs a bit of help
South Mountain's finest
Club West is a unique and challenging golf course. Way above average scenery and really nice greens although the mountain effect can really bite you.
Course is challenging, but fair
Enjoyed the course. Got paired up with two other regulars so that helped.
No marshal. Pace is slow
Only got 16 holes in 5 hours
