About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2019.
The Club West Golf Club offers 18 holes on a Brian Whitcomb-designed golf course that was originally built in 1993 and measures 7,142 yards from the championship tees on a par-72 golf course.
Club West Golf Club claims the 17th as its signature hole. It features double-greens, tees elevated 100 feet above the course and vistas of South Mountain and of the Estrella Mountain Range; players ought to pick the green they desire and then check the yardage. If the wind isn't blowing you back, pick one less club than usual, aim right and swing smoothly.
After the round, head over to the Club West Golf Club's clubhouse, which is the gorgeous home of the Lakeside Grille, which serves breakfast and lunch inside the stunning dining room or on a spacious patio featuring a fireplace and lake view.

Course in good shape.
Course came out of overseed in good shape. Was still cart path only when I played. This is such a fun course to play. No real long but shot placement is key. Greens were in good shape but not at final cut speed. They had good coverage from the overseed. A few fairway bare spots but that is to be expected with a mountain course. I believe there was a management change a few years ago and it will serve the course well. Always fun to play.
Picturesque views
This was a beautifully set up course. Driving range was below standard.. The course was quite wet from watering when played early in the morning. Still course was worth playing.
Very Good Value
Course was in very good shape for this time of year (early November.) Excellent value as we paid $29 per golfer on a beautiful Saturday with very comfortable weather. It's a fair course overall with some scenic holes, especially on the back 9. I will be back...if they'll have me. The clubhouse patio area is very scenic.
An Old Favorite Returns to Form
Club West seemed to always be in the rotation of courses offered to us during our 15 years of Men's Golf Trips from Vancouver, B.C. Eventually, the run-down condition of the track saw it passed over in favor of other better-run facilities. My, how the times have changed. The course we played yesterday was not just professionally-run but in much better post-overseeding condition than ANY of the high-end tracks we have visited over the past two weeks. The Fairways and tee boxes were immaculate and the greens, though still bearing some of the appearance of overseeding damage were incredibly true and approaching 9 or 10 on the Stimp. The staff, from the bag attendant through the golf professional and restaurant employees were universally friendly and helpful--did I mention that the round cost less than half what we had been playing to play the half-dozen, heavily top-dressed and/or shaggy courses? Oh and they threw in lunch in a Golfnow.com promotion. As for the course itself, it is actually quite spectacular set in a Saguaro-filled portion of the Valley sandwiched between South Mountain Park and the Gila River Indian Reservation--easily accessible off the west end of Highway 202 known as the San Tan Freeway. The Course is set in 90 acres and stretches to over 7,000 yards from the tips. We played the Blue tees that were about 6,500 yards and plenty challenging in a "parkland style golf way" with not many forced carries or tricked-up shots. That being said the back nine in particular boasts two significantly elevated tees with absolutely stunning views of the entire Valley. As a longtime Gold Card member out of the companion course The Duke at Rancho El Dorado (the Foothills Group runs several Ahwatukee area courses), I get the sense that they are feeling some of the financial pressures that many of the Phoenix courses are struggling with; there were no signs of those difficulties at Club West. We walked right into the pro shop after our round and booked another. You should, too!
Don't go alone your first time.
The course is great track with undulating challenges and readable greens. Unless you know the layout be sure you pair up with a veteran. On one hole on the back I was ready to hit into another fairway as mine was disguised by overgrowth just past the tee box. Luckily I had joined a veteran threesome that redirected me. Overall, a great course and will play again!!
Great views of desert mountains
Last minute selection for my buddy and me. Was a great value, with lunch included and and the course was in good condition. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Will come back
Good course; blind hazards.
We enjoyed the day. Interesting layout and not overly punishing. One problem: The course has a number of completely blind hazards that are impossible for a first time visitor to know about. Even a course map on the card would help give a hint about them.
Nice course
Course is in great shape for just coming off overseeding, friendly staff as always. Would recommend you try it.
Good course, great value
Good layout, some scenic holes. Very pleasant round.
Valley Gem!
A very nice layout! Many dogleg holes and a few with trouble in the fairways to force carries! Or not if you play conservatively .
Greens were in very good shape considering the over seeding scheduled for Oct 12th. The ball actually checked up!
17th hole reminds me of Spinal Tap at Oak Quarry in Riverside, CA! Same scary visual! ALL CARRY!
Say Hi to Katie! Great Bar Tendress!
Enjoy!
Good Hot Deal
I golf on average once a week and I chase the hottest deals in the summer so I have a chance to play everywhere in the valley. This was my third time playing Club West and I would have to say this is worst shape I have seen it in. With that being said I have followed the reviews from the summer and it seems that they have fixed some of the issues from the horrible reviews they received this summer. The outside staff was great but the driving range is in bad shape with little attention to detail and no stations to hit from and you hit into a large empty dirt pit. The inside staff was very nice but reported that the course was in “great shape”, if it was your first time there you might believe it but compared to playing there in the past the course was beat up and I understand that we are very close to over seeding but I was disappointed in areas that should be mark ground under repair.
Greens were very inconsistent and do not judge the course by the practice green it was so shaggy I was scared to see what the course offered. Some greens were rolling consistent but once again there is a lack of attention to detail in the care of the course. The empty Mud Pit on the back 9 is embarrassing because it once looked to be a beautiful water feature but it is now a series of mosquito nests. I am giving this course a hard review because I have seen it at its best. I would recommend you give it a try but I would say hold them to the high standard that they have in the winter. Also to all my golfer brothers and sisters please review courses on golfnow.com it helps golfers know the current conditions.
Nice, but desert.
Good course to play - short worded, if you're not on the fairway 90% of the time, you'll have no shot. Other than that, enjoyable.
a very scenic course
the course was in excellant condition, tees & fairways were very green and smooth, greens were a little slow but very smooth.
Nice long course.
First time ever playing Club West. Definitely a challenge if you have never played here before. I wish the scorecard had a layout of the holes to notify you of the obstacles that cross the fairways on some of the holes. On the front 9 we had a 3rd who lives in the neighborhood and warned us of certain hazards that were upcoming, but he played on through when we stopped for a bite at the turn. No help on the back 9. I am looking forward to playing here again.
Great Layout
Club West is a great course that has a lot of character. Hole #8 is a great par 5 with a carry over trouble. A great course for all levels.
tricky greens
Hadn't play this course for about a year and hasn't change much in course conditions or typical looking down towards foreigners from proshop and bar staffs.
Poor condition, Esp the greens
Long way to drive to try out a new course. Starting with the practice area which was nothing but a large sand pit with an elevated tee box. Really awful start to the day and causes one to wonder what the rest of the course will be like.
The course was in poor shape compared to others I've played. The greens were bare, as in no grass and just sandy spots, and very bumpy. Short putts would easily go off line because of the rough texture. Fairways were also dry and in rough shape. Even tee boxes were chewed up and divot were not refilled.
The staff were friendly and the clubhouse was nice. Too bad the course conditions aren't as nice as the staff.
Definitely will not play there again.
GolfNow had a Great Deal which was the only reason for playing there.
Beautiful course.
Drove from Buckeye to play. Worth the drive. Absolutely beautiful layout and it was very fun course. Will definitely play it again.
Course in transition
You are going to get what you pay for this time of year as the course is in transition. Greens are dry and bumpy. But for the price it's a fun course for all skill levels. One member of our group didn't show so I wish golf now would refund the one fee that was prepaid.
fun golf morning
We got to the course still in the dark and we're the first to tee off. It was a fun course with some definite challanges. If your not just into golf the birds, bunnies and other animals are quite enjoyable to watch. A great way to start the morning.
