Great value
Great practice facility. Very friendly staff. Course layout is one of the best In the valley.
Ugh for the greens
First time I’ve played the course. Absolutely love the course layout and the pine trees that you don’t see on any other AZ course unless you go up North. But the condition of the greens really lowered my ratings for the course. I don’t know if it’s from overwatering or what, but there was some kind of fungus or algae growing on the greens so that made the greens bumpy and they did not roll well at all. When you have that 5 to 8 footer to make your par and you know the ball isn’t going to roll straight or that it’s going to “jump” in the air after you hit it it really takes the fun out of the round. May be just a summer thing.
Nice game
Only regret was driving range was not open until after our early tee time sue to weekly grooming; won’t golf Wed AM. Otherwise a pleasure to golf at the Raven. Challenging and in immaculate condition compared to courses of this caliber. Don’t pass up a round with fun par 3 and very challenging
Par 5’s and 4’s. Back soon
Enjoyable day
Brought a foursome as our course was closed for upkeep. The conditions were very good for this time of year. Some of the tees need leveling but greens were fine and fairways were thin in some places but to be expected this time of year and consistent with other good courses we’ve played this early summer. We played white tees at 6250 yards. The grey were 6700. Would like a combo option of gray and white to get around 6400 +-.
Very nice
Not a very difficult course if you play it strategically. If you dont the bunkers are everywhere. Better to be short all day then long over the greens. Well maintained course and awesome staff. Cart is ready to go with cooler scorecard and raven brand tees.
Great change
The course is not a Arizona course. It’s like golfing back in the Midwest. It’s on my top 5 in Arizona because of the change in conditions that sets it apart.
Had a good round
Me and my buddy got paired up with a couple nice guys and we had a good round. Grass was mostly in good condition. A couple places the grass was cut short and ground was hard so difficult to get under ball for approach shot. Some sand traps could use more real sand, versus the rocks and dirt in them now. Overall, good round, good times.
Could be better
This course is usually in great shape and worth the money . I was told the greens were in great shape , they were not. Very patchy and bumpy, not one green was “ green” . The bunkers are really poor especially green side. Very deep , high lips and no sand . Need to add more and smooth them out . I will be back but hope improvements are made .
maintenence crews
The course is in fair condition. They were watering it as I played which was late morning. The ball would stop as soon as it landed. The greens seemed like the grass was pressed flat into the ground.
The thing that really got me was the maintenance crews. I realize they need to mow, etc, but they were oblivious to golfers. Usually (on other courses) they will stop and let you hit and then continue, but not these guys. You had to wait until they cleared the area or moved to either side of the fairway and hit between passes. One guy came driving up the center of the fairway while I was just about to tee off. Then he went back and forth a few times before he finally noticed me standing there and moved to one side. After hearing such rave reviews I was very disappointed in this course.
Great course and great staff!
Love playing this course. Just beautiful and a challenge depending on which tees are chosen.
Greens overall pretty good but some are getting quite brown.
Addendum to earlier review
Already mentioned the difficulty, challenging layout with every hole having some kind of catch to it and that the raven is pretty much a great very taking place to play and I highly recommend it. What I forgot to say before was that the raven also has the best beer cart girls.
Every Hole has a catch
Pretty tough course. Either a given hole was really long and difficult to reach in two or you had to be Dead Eye Richard to hit the green because of bunker placement. One par four was only 300 yards...but was literally had ten bunkers on the approach with no margin for a bad shot. Freeways were beautiful, layout was great and greens were firm and fast. Normally, this course costs north of 80; I managed to sneak on for 45. I'd play this again in a heartbeat
2nd time, still really good!
Some people don’t care, but customer service and friendliness go along way to someone like me ..... and this course knocked it out of the park again!
not to mention the fairways, greens and bunkers .....all in terrific shape —- nobody out there on a weekday afternoon, currently the best value around for what type of course you get ....lots of trees and water!
Raven
What a great day. Putting green and range were ample size. Signage was great between holes. Par 3 ranged between 132 and 202 (silver tees 6722 yards). Par 4 between 303-430. Par 5 between 499-577. Green were in ok shape (quite smooth but many with pitch marks unfixed. Areas between holes with bushes, flowers, and pine trees. Good value for $96 in May 2020
Cart Quit in Me
So the course is in pretty decent shape with the exception of the “sand” traps which were rock hard or had standing water.
My golf cart quit on me in the middle of the 15th fairway and no one brought another one out to me. So much for social distancing. I had two choices, either walk the remaining holes in 105 degree temps or chance getting Covid-19 by saddling up with another golfer. I chose the risk.
Another poor point is we did not see the cart girl except twice. At 105 it would have been nice to see her a few times.
Greens and fairways were in good shape. I think I will still recommend the course to a friend. Probably my sucky luck the cart quit on me and maybe the drink girl was slammed with other customers (my wife tells me it’s not always about me :)
