Camelback Golf Club features two courses, Padre and Ambiente (formerly known as Indian Bend Course). The Ambiente Course underwent a major renovation in 2013. Making the course more eco friendly was one of the major goals of the renovation in addition to improving the layout's playability for a wider range of skill levels. The creatively shaped greens offer a variety of different putting options that present interesting risk-reward opportunities. The renovation added 100 acres of native desert and grass areas that add not only beauty but also require a third less water. Rolling terrain is the defining characteristic of the Ambiente Course, from the undulating fairways to dramatic drops in elevation. There are five sets of tees with forward tees that have easier approach angles and no forced carried, allowing even beginners to approach the golf course with confidence.

Poor Conditions for Pricing

AZ summer rates for the average conditions of this course were pretty ridiculous. $80 for what should've been a $50 round. Played Whirlwind previous week for $53 and it blew this course away.

Good condition course

Prior reviews had me worried the course would be in bad shape but I was surprised to find the course in such good shape. The Marshall said the summer grass had grown through already after being seeded a few weeks ago . 18th was the only hole that was still in repair - wet from a lot of watering the summer grass I’m guessing.

Great track. Very Respectful of the pandemic guidelines - masks required in the clubhouse, cart to myself, cleaned before using. Bathrooms clean. Staff wearing masks.

Always a great place to play

The course is coming off of Over seeding back in May. However, the greens were a little bit bumpy but still rolling pretty fast by July the green should be in great shape

WOW

Might be the worst kept track I’ve ever played. Half the tee boxes were mud, the collars were all being replaced ( as in cut out waiting for sod ), hard pan, standing water. Dissapointed to say the least. Price should have been half of what it was.

Muni at best.

I’ve played some pretty bad courses in my day. Ambiente shot to the top of the list. Bare dirt on 1/2 the tee boxes, dead/ muddy fairways, green collars all under repair with a few of them being sodded as we played. The pinched greens were the nicest parts of the course. Dissapointed In the course staff to not share conditions with golfnow. Not to mention the $160 it cost my son and I to play. Not sure I’d play if it were free. All in all has to be the worst course I’ve ever played.

Deceipt

I have played this course many times and love the course. We were informed that the greens were recently punched and that they were at 90%. I would say 60% we should of been informed that the course is burnt out and dry very little grass to be found and even worse there was a 2 foot trench around 10 greens which Had not been re-sodded. Cart staff was great as always. The cart girl seemed to be bothered to serve us. Staff says the rate was low because of the course condition. We have plenty of other choices here in Phoenix and I would surely have gone elsewhere if we knew. Won’t go back til after overseed

Summer conditions

I heard the greens were good, but been airified 2-3 weeks ago so a few greens were good and some were ok. Typical summer Arizona conditions, lots of burn outs. I’m sure during the overseed season (September through April) would be so much better.

Great Day to Golf

Course is a “meadows “ design so important to stay in the fairway. No water to worry about but shot placement is key. I wouldn’t suggest this course to high handicap or beginners.

Course was on ok condition considering it is summer in AZ. Very muddy in some areas from overwatering and some areas near greens were burnt out. Overall greens and fairways were well maintained.

Staff friendly and everyone was wearing masks for COVID. Oops almost forgot, they have placed water coolers all over the course and the beer cart was around frequently.

A truly wonderful round on Fathers Day.

Summer Hasn’t Been Kind

I’ve played here 20 times and never seen this course so beat up. An $80 round was 3x what it was worth. Greens recently punched but no warning on GolfNow. And fairways as barren as a wasteland. You can get similar conditions for $25 elsewhere in the Valley.

Terrible

I have played this course before and I like the layout. However understanding I received a hot deal on this course it was in terrible condition. Hot deal or not the fairways, greens, and tee boxes were in playing condition only.. Very sad to see this course in this condition.

Poor course conditions, no marshall

We were excited to play Camelback, however we ended up being very disappointed. There was a 4-some in front of us, obviously playing for money, with nobody ahead of them for several holes. No marshall came around at all. Worse yet, due to lack of rain, the course was in terrible shape. Do not play here unless you get a true opinion of the course conditions.

Horrible shape.... dont play.

The course was airrated and the pro shop said the were giving us a 25 percent discount but then charged us the same price we locked in on golfnow. The greens were poor but the rest of the course was really bad. The tee boxes looked liked there were dirt only. The fairways had patches of green but not around the greens. It looked like they hadn't maintained the course at all. The couple we were assigned to play with said they played the course 20 years ago and it was a great course then. My father played 15 years ago and said the same. Everyone agreed it wasn't worth the money at half of what they were charging. I made the comment to the staff that the course was a little rough and he went on to say it was the airation and that's the reason for everything, tee to green. It would be great in 2 weeks. He must of thought we were idiots. The course isn't worth playing now. You can find much better at half the price.

Rough

Love the course, but it was in rough shape this time. Greens were unputtable after the recent aeration. Fairways were quite patchy. Just caught it at the wrong time. At least the price was right.

Don't play here

Thise are the worst plating conditions I have ever seen on a golf course over $29 dollars. Thus is a goat track where the greens heeper is socially distancing from the coarse. Weeds in the bunkers, garbage for fairways, chewed up over watered areas around the green with not much grass to save it. I will never play here again. I cant see how thisbwoyld be enywhere close to a good golf course any time soon. Cancel your reservation and go somewhere else....

Fairways were barren. Tee boxes were mud pits. My ball was always muddy in the fairway. Good course but better in season.

Not ready yet - more warning needed.

Course is under major maintenance. Not worth the money till it's done.

Greens are heavily aerated, fairways are either mud or hard pan.

Pace of play was 4.5 hours and started late.

Cortney on cart was around often and was the lone bright spot.

Not what we were expecting.

Booked this course for 6/9 after never playing it before along with 3 friends. We were all super excited to play at such a nice place. Unfortunately it wasn't a good experience. Not only were the Greens just freshly aerated but the entire course was aerated. It was also very wet in certain places, had to play out of mud or grass that OK but was actually just mud underneath. It was nearly impossible to hit a straight putt. The biggest problem is that we were not warned or notified that the course was aerated. We would have never paid the price to play a course in this condition. The course website or GolfNow normally give you a warning but not this time. I'm sure it's an amazing place when in decent condition.

dry hard greens

The summer heat is coming and the course is showing a few burned out spots. The greens were dry and hard. The ball would roll off easily. Oddly several of the aprons to the greens were wet. So you could either hit into the apron and have the ball stop or land on the green and hope it didn't roll off. The rest of the course was pretty decent shape. Carts ran smooth and had GPS on them.
