Camelback Golf Club features two courses, Padre and Ambiente (formerly known as Indian Bend Course). The Ambiente Course underwent a major renovation in 2013. Making the course more eco friendly was one of the major goals of the renovation in addition to improving the layout's playability for a wider range of skill levels. The creatively shaped greens offer a variety of different putting options that present interesting risk-reward opportunities. The renovation added 100 acres of native desert and grass areas that add not only beauty but also require a third less water. Rolling terrain is the defining characteristic of the Ambiente Course, from the undulating fairways to dramatic drops in elevation. There are five sets of tees with forward tees that have easier approach angles and no forced carried, allowing even beginners to approach the golf course with confidence.

Golf with visitors

It has been very wet and so a lot of water on the course, the greens team was doing there best with difficult conditions. Layout is great, my friends and I loved it, the staff are superb.

Really fun course

Just reopened after over-seed and the course looks great. The course is bordered by tall natural desert grass which gives a nice contrasting color to the green fairways. There are lots of risk/reward par 4s that are under 400 yards with well placed bunkers . Some of the bunkers were a bit crunchy around the greens but other than that the condition was perfect. This course is on my “gotta play again list”. Finished around 4 hours . My group had to wait on a few tee boxes but only because the group infront searched for their ball in the tall desert grass. However on the first tee box the ranger tells you to take a lateral drop if your ball goes in there because you wont find it. If your ball goes in the tall grass its gone..

Excellent Golf Course

If you are looking for a links course in Arizona, then Ambiente is that course. Great challenging holes and lots of tall fescue grass off fairways. Greens are fast and fun. The best choice you could ever make is to play Ambiente at Camelback.

A nice challenging course

Almost a links style course but without a lot of the trouble of a links course. The fairway bunkering provides a good challenge when placing the tee shot and around the greens, there is adequate bunkering as well. Most of the holes are straight with the exception of 1 or 2 which can make the play a little boring, but the landing areas are tight and you have to be precise to score well from the tips. The sand wasn't in the best condition out there however, it was pretty hard and playing a blast wasn't really an option because of it. All in all a fun afternoon at a reasonable price.

Camelback ambiant

Played the ambiant and it was not as expected. Several fairways had a lot of debris. Trash in the alleys. Water was hard to come by across the course. Staff were really friendly however.

Different and exceptional!

The Ambiente course at Camelback Golf Club is one of my favorites in Scottsdale. The greens are some of the best in the valley and are well guarded by deep traps that actually have good sand in them (Arizona traps are notoriously poor). The course is a links layout which is very unique to central Arizona and is difficult but fair. The staff are friendly and helpful.

Challenging course, will play again.

I've played multiple times and each time I have been totally pleased with the course condition and amenities. Fairways and greens were in great shape. Don't hit the ball in the links grasses, you'll never find your ball!

Play it again

Very nice course and staff. Glad they have shorter tee boxes for short hitters, it made the day fun, but still a challenging course that requires good shots.

I would play here again.

Beautiful course.

All staff were excellent, greens in good condition.. A two-some played in 3 hours. Lots of traps. Several tees to select from to match length. Food after golf was also good. A nice golfing experience.

Ambiente

I love Ambiente. Great layout, plenty challenging, great condition, even late summer.

My issues. Fairways and Tee boxes not mown. I love the course, and it's worth it to me, but $99 in the summer is a lot. That would be fine I guess, but mow the fairways and tee boxes if you're going to charge top dollar. Also, the rates are kind of fluid depending in where and when you book.

Great Links-style Course in the Desert

This is as close to links-style golf as you get in the desert. The course has all the features--the fescu, the bunkers, the quick greens, etc. Apart from the heat (111 F) melting my game, this is a top tier course to play.

Summer heat

Having golfed the valley of the sun during the summer months for the past 15 years, it is amazing the camelback staff keeps consistent high level golf despite little of no help from the monsoon in 2019.

Very challenging course and above average conditions this time of year. Bottom line, you gotta hit the shots or you will be playing from the sand, which is the main course defense. Deep traps make errant players take their medicine, wedge out to get back in play. In addition deep rough forces additional accuracy, deep as in an “easy lost ball”. This isnt a grip and rip tract, that notion is completely lost after the first couple holes and all players find themselves forced to execute carefully planned shots. Great fun for competing, I played with my sons and we enjoyed the fact that no lead was safe, and could turnaround completely at any given hole. Fun challenging tract.

Hositality and friendliness of staff and crew, second to none. Marriot should be proud.

Smoking hot deal

It wasn’t 105 degrees playing at high noon. Not for the faint of heart But a course that charges upwards of $200 in season (because they can) is worthy of a look this time of year. The course, while not taking a huge footprint has really interesting holes and presents a nice challenge

Disappointed

Was looking forward to playing this high end course, but was disappointed. Course was so dry that fairway grass actually crunched when you walked on it! There was little or no grass around greens.

Very enjoyable day

First time played so as a single I was taking my time discovering the layout and planning my shots and yet I only had one single go through me and never caught the group ahead of me, seemed like I owned the place on a 115* afternoon between 12 and 4. Fairways are pretty spacious. Greens had been punched long enough ago that they had filled in pretty nicely and putted true. Sand was firm not fluffy. The usual sparse, dry, hard spots on any areas of slope where water doesn't soak in like any course this time of year. The pro shop let me demo a 3hybrid at no charge and the beverage cart gal was friendly and informative. I enjoyed the course immensely and will play again soon.
