Camelback Golf Club - Ambiente Course
About
Camelback Golf Club features two courses, Padre and Ambiente (formerly known as Indian Bend Course). The Ambiente Course underwent a major renovation in 2013. Making the course more eco friendly was one of the major goals of the renovation in addition to improving the layout's playability for a wider range of skill levels. The creatively shaped greens offer a variety of different putting options that present interesting risk-reward opportunities. The renovation added 100 acres of native desert and grass areas that add not only beauty but also require a third less water. Rolling terrain is the defining characteristic of the Ambiente Course, from the undulating fairways to dramatic drops in elevation. There are five sets of tees with forward tees that have easier approach angles and no forced carried, allowing even beginners to approach the golf course with confidence.

Golfer Reviews
Nice track
When I am in Arizona I like to play at different courses. This is a nice track but the overall course condition was average at best. It could be a lot better. I use a long tee. The tee boxes were rock hard and very difficult to use my tee at the depth that I prefer. A lot of brown patches every where. We had a good time though.
Awesome
We had a great time course is in beautiful condition.
Pretty Corse
We enjoyed our round. The course was interesting and the bird sanctuary was a plus. We would definitely play it again.
2nd hole start
Course has great condioning from the tee boxes, fairways and greens and has very few divots or ball marks on greens which i assume is a result of less rounds being played because of the very high green fees. I played on a Sunday and the course was not that busy and i was thankfull to have a HOT DEAL. The course is flat but has a very interesting layout with good bunkering and generous amount of sand in them. No pretty desert plantings or views but all in all a pleasant experience with very friendly staff. Practice putting at 1st tee, the starter apologized and said he did not see me and said i would have to start on the second hole as the group i was supposed to be with teed off already. He was very nice and followed me to the 2nd hole and introduced me to the 3some and said i could play #1 when i was thru 18 and if i wanted could play more holes, so i played till dusk w the course to myself and played 9 more.
Good course, good lay out. Greens a little slow and uneven. The pace was slow but I called the club house and the ranger came right out and got the slow foursome moving. It is a little pricey. But a good experience.
Friendly Staff
Reception very helpful. Jim, the starter was great! He went out of his way to get my wife a box of Kleenex given the cool temperatures. We did not have a cart GPS as they said they were replacing them. This meant I had to guess pin positions in terms of front, middle, back. We were paired with two friendly golfers so had an enjoyable round. The course was challenging emphasizing course management skills.
Links style course in the dessert
Ambiente is a links style course. The course conditions were beautiful - lush fairways, smooth rolling fast greens, killer rough, good sand. If your ball finds the long grass, you probably won’t find the ball. This course is a great play.
Wonderful experience
Friendly reception at check-in, cart attendants and starter. Excellent practice facilities. Was able to get an earlier tee time, played as a 2some and did not have to wait until the 14th hole. Even then, the 4some played quickly. A 3 hour round that was not rushed. Lush fairways, deep rough, lots of sand traps and lightning fast undulating greens made for quite the challenge. We were informed by the starter that there was no turn at the 9th hole. The ranger and beverage cart were out there as promised. The only thing that could be improved are the rather rough cart paths. Overall, a great experience.
Course was in great condition just not what I was expecting as far as scenery. The course is in a subdivision with no real scenic beautiful holes. Probably would not play it again. Plus it is $48 for a six pack of beer.
1st time
Great deal, first time playing, incredible greens perfect and fast. Great facility with a great practice facility. Great snack shop
Beautiful course
This is a beautiful course in excellent condition. Great practice facilities for putting, chipping, etc. the four of us were not on our game that day so it played a little tough. Bunkers were our nemous as deep and large so difficult to get out of but overall the layout is good.
Great Track
Always fun to play here. Started 12:30 on a Sunday, 30 minutes behind a 60 person tourney. Cushion evaporated by the 7th hole. However, total time for round was 4:15. Not bad. Pro Shop did a good job setting up that 30 minute gap between tourney and general play. Although play slowed down precipitously when we caught tourney, overall time was still acceptable.
Slow, no turn, no beer cart
It was a very slow 6 hour round, i didnt realize that this course unlike the other one on the resort didnt end its 9th hole at the club house so we were unable to get food and beverages like we had planned. Just so happened that a cart person was sick and only had one beer cart for 2 courses... the course is nice but nothing too spectacular and if i pay this much for a round i like to have all the other amenities or else i would just go pay 40-80$...+
Great greens and an good layout
Camelback is a course set in the valley with views of camelback mountain from most holes. The Ambiante course is a solid layout, however many holes have a sameness to them. The greens were in awesome shape, much better than the other courses I played coming out of the overseeding process. I enjoyed the course and put it in the solid second tier behind the big boys in town (Troon North, We Ko Pa, Quintero).
Top 5 Gem
Ambiente is one of the top 5 courses to play in the valley! I have played all the big names.... Boulders, Troon, We Ko Pa.... etc and Ambiente is always as good if not better playing condition. Such a wicked deal in the offseason.
The conditions are always stellar and the native grass lined fairways and bunkers are always maticulously maintained. They always have the best condition and truest rolling greens out of all the courses I play when I’m in town. It’s not super challenging, but I think it’s the best mix of challenge and beauty.
If you haven’t played here you got to!
Worth going
We hadn’t planned to golf today but booked it last minute and the links style layout was a lot of fun and a nice change. Worth the trip.
