The Phoenician Golf Club reopened in the fall of 2018 after a massive redesign and renovation by Scottsdale-based architect Phil Smith. The new 18-hole layout replaces the original 27-hole routing. Every hole is new, featuring TifEagle grass greens and tees, fairways and rough that are 419 Bermuda grass. The golf shop has been expanded as well, and the Club Car golf carts have been outfitted with the "Shark Experience" - a new golf technology with a high-definition touch screen and built-in speakers for playing music and watching live sports, news and entertainment, along with GPS yardage.

SUPER NICE

WHAT A DEAL, CALL IT A STEAL. ON A BLISTERING ARIZONA SUNDAY PLAYING IN (AND ON) AN OASIS N A CAYNON. THIS COURSE WAS IN TOURNAMENT SHAPE. CHALLANGING, DECORATIVE HOLES AND FAST UNFORGIVING GREENS. THIS IS BY FAR ONE OF THE VALLEY'S FINEST VENUES. AND PROVIDING THE PRICE FITS MY LITTLEMAN BUDGET (SUMMER RATE OR TYPO ??? ) I WILL PLAY AGAIN AND AGAIN. IT IS EVEN WORTH THE EXECUTIVE RATES THAT MY BUDGET DOESNT ALLOW FOR...BUT IF IT DID...THIS WOULD BE MY HOME COURSE.

On my list of top courses now. Every hole is a challenge. Talk about course management. It was an awesome round, and I will return soon. Perhaps on a stay-n-play package.

Slow

The facilities and the course are beautiful, but it was the worst pace of play I've ever seen. By the time we got to the third hole (par 3), there was one group on the green, one on the tee box and one waiting on the tee box. We were the 4th group on a single hole. The cart girl comes by and says it's backed up like this for the entire course. No ranger in sight to speed people up. Round took over 5 1/2 hours, and this wasn't an out of the ordinary day there.

Also, there is almost no drinking water to be seen on this course. When temperatures average 110 degrees, you should have water more than once every 9 holes.

Great Course

Great course, very friendly staff. Greens are very challenging, especially if you have longer putts. Recommend all golfers to at least play this course once. You can play it several times and it changes depending on what courses you play (Canyon, Oasis or Desert). Each 9 hole course offers a different challenge

Decent conditions

I played the Desert/Canyon 18 hole combination on at 2:30 pm on July 8th. GN's rate was $22 including range balls. The course was not busy at all and we were able to play at a fairly good pace.
The driving range pretty chewed up where they had it set up. Finding enough grass to hit off of was difficult. "Chewed up" is actually a good way to describe most of the course. Many of the tee boxes, especially on the par 3s, had a large amount of divots and bare spots and a few were not level. One tee box on a par three was unplayable because of so many divots. The fairways were in decent shape but again with a lot of divots and bare spots. The greens were also in similar condition with a lot of un-repaired ball marks and bare spots. They didn't have a lot of grass on them and were fast. The strong winds we had that day really affected putts. I know it's summertime but the course was in rough shape overall.
The views on the course are pretty awesome and you don't realize how far up the side of the mountain you go on the desert 9. The course is fun and challenging without a lot of length. Shot placement and proper yardage will help you score here.
Given the conditions I experienced I think better values exist within the same area of Scottsdale/Phoenix.

Great condition for summer in AZ

First time playing course. Was in excellent condition bar a few bare spots on greens but for July golf the course team should be commended for such great presentation. Courses are not long but they still provide a challenge with greens that are fast and sloped. Watch those hole placements on top of slopes as very easy to putt right off the greens. Some stunning views from the high tee boxes well worth the visit alone. Great practice facilities, nice clubhouse and if the family are shopping in Fashion Square it's less than five minutes away to escape to the golf. I will certainly go back.

A Desert Mountain Beauty

I love the Phoenician. From the great staff to the beautiful view to the ease of access it's all great.

I like to play the Desert and Canyon nines. Each has its share of long approaches, elevation changes and challenging greens. The course was in great condition with unusually lush grass for this time of the season and well groomed greens.

The different nines have a good mixture of moderate to moderately challenging holes. While some might consider it "target golf" in places, I like the challenge of having little room for error in placing your shots. Like any good course, the Phoenician offers holes that can surrender birdies or take you for a double bogey ride just as quickly.

The staff is excellent and friendly and very helpful. The Relish Bistro serves up some nice food for a reasonable price considering it is a resort.

If you have not been there, give The Phoenician a visit and play the Desert/Canyon layout. Don't forget to have lunch.

very scenic

Well conditioned resort course. The pace of play was slow.. We played the Oasis and the Canyons and I found that it was very difficult to know where you were going, fortunately we played with players that had played this facility before and we were ok, however we did see a number of players at a loss as to which way to go.
The scenery was fantastic, great views of the valley, nice elevation changes from hole to hole, and lots of shaded areas around the tee boxes.
