Great Eagle Golf Club

About
Great Eagle Golf Club, rated one of the most affordable golf courses in Arizona, is a championship course in the West Valley. Although it has a traditional design there are several unique and challenging elements that come into play such as undulating mounds that cause uneven lies and well-guarded greens. Water hazards also come into play on four holes. The golf course offers three sets of tee boxes so that there is some flexibility regarding levels of challenge, but overall the course is suitable for any player. The Great Eagle Golf Club, in addition to the course, also offers both a chipping green and a putting green.

Really???
So have played this course last year and it was bad. Thought I would give it a second chance as some reviews stated it had improved. Poor layout from the get go. No signage to pro shop. Check in was easy and lady was great. The best part of this experience. Greens are poor. Fairways are good, but if you don't hit them you're often hitting off rock. Some bunkers have sand, but don't count on it. Best option, stay on the fairway and save your clubs. No marshall to keep pace up. Was no busy on the course, but still took almost 5 hours as two groups ahead just were meandering around. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, I won't be back.
Nice city course
Very nice city course especially since they have cleaned up the course ( fairways & greens conditions ). Cart paths are still in need of improvement.
Horrible course
The pictures of this course looked really nice online but when I got there, I was extremely disappointed . The greens were absolutely in terrible shape. Golf cars were falling apart and the pace of play was horrible. There’s no cart paths and there’s a lot of dirt and gravel everywhere. Felt like playing golf on a construction site.
The Rough
The Rough I refer to is the so called cart paths on this course. I have been playing this course since the 90s. Most of the cart paths are just dirt, gravel etc. I know it’s probably expensive to lay all concrete needed for cart paths. I guess if the cart paths were great or even if they had real paths the fee would be $100 more than what I paid this particular beautiful November day.
Cart path only
Would be nice to let your golfers know that most of the back 9 is Cary path only. If not before booing when you check in. Between that and slow w of play and was of us the round took 5 hours
Cart paths are terrible
Like to play this golf course but the cart paths are in such terrible shape,
Once Good ?
Would be a excellent course if someone would put money in to this course. Cart paths would help. Fairway grass was good but grass in the rough area was non existent. But for the money I paid to play there, it was okay.
Good in town course
In the last year they have done a really good job of cleaning up the course. The fairways are nice ( ball sits up nicely ) & the greens are honest and smooth, somewhat fast. When they get the cart paths finished it will be a very good course.
Great Eagle
One positive they are adding sand to bunkers, that said the overseer did not take so having to walk on 3 of the hardest holes on the course, not good.
One of the more difficult and challenging courses in the west valley. Lots of forced carries off the tees, doglegs, and deep, thick grass bunkers EVERYWHERE. This is a course where one really does need to know the layout to score well.
Good affordable course
My wife and I played this course with friends. We had lots of fun and laughs. The course is in good condition with green fairways and reasonably fast greens. Some of the pin placements were difficult to get to for non professional golfers. The cart paths are very rough. Some TOC on those would make the course some much better. All-in-all we had a great day and I would recommend this course to other amateur players.
Overseeding
The course overseeding and cart path only restrictions were expected. But that course shouldn’t take 4 and a half hours to play, even if you walked it. But, I guess I’ve reached that stage of life where golfing has now become a point of greater frustration and sacrifice. Unless you have time to spare and drive a couple of hours and play in Prescott AZ. We’ll have to just get over it!
A work in progress
The course is one of our favorite in AZ. They are working hard to improve the club house and course. Not finished yet.
Rough cart paths
My main issue is the condition of cart paths. They are horrible, I only play this course because of availability of punch cards.
