Golfer Reviews
Slow play
I have played this course several times and usually enjoyed it. However, this time, my son and I quickly caught up to a five-some and had to play behind them until we finally skipped a couple of holes to get around them. The group behind us had to do the same thing.
If they are going to allow fivesomes (and I don't think they should) they need to have marshals on the course to keep things moving.
Nice course, pretty views
We arrived in the foggy dark for our early tee time. We found the layout to be challenging with a lot of risk/reward shots. We finished early and ate breakfast in the dining room overlooking #18. The pancakes and omelets were fabulous! We replayed another round and as the morning marine layer cleared, we felt like we were playing an entirely different course. Really beautiful! We thoroughly enjoyed our day at Laguna Seca and will play there again when visit the Monterey area again.
Challenging course, not good conditions
This is certainly a challenging course. Lots of elevation changes. Lots of doglegs. Lots of sand. Brutal to walk. I'd call it a "funky" design, which isn't a bad thing. Just certainly unique. Pace of play was great yesterday b/c no one was on the course. I've played before and it's been a 6 hour round though, probably because it's deceivingly tough and lots of holes where you don't hit too bad a shot but could still be searching for your ball for a while. Right now the course conditions are pretty bad. Likely due to the drought, but I don't expect to be back until I hear they've gotten much better. $50 with cart on GolfNow isn't bad, but too much for current conditions.
Great Value
Great course for the money! Would reccomend!!!!!!!
Very Enjoyable golf
I have played Laguna Seca many times before writing this review. However, I wanted to do this because of the conditions of the course. Right now, California is in the 3rd year of a pretty extreme drought, and I expected Laguna Seca to be in poor condition because of it. However, I found just the opposite. The fairways were beautiful and the greens were great. They are not letting the rough grow too high but the grass in the rough presents enough of a challenge that you don't want to go there (as it should). There are brown and dried out places but those areas are definitely way off the fairways and you shouldn't be in those places anyway (at least you shouldn't try to).
The staff, especially the pro David, are happy to see you and make your time getting through the details easy so you can get out there and play.
I would suggest riding a cart because the walk up both 9 and 18 is steep but the rest of the course is very walkable if you must.
Nice no fog area, most of the time
Enjoy playing, players ahead (3) were very slow on the greens. Playing from the back tees, should have Been White. Just our opinion! Did make us wait at every hole. Good time anyway.
New find
Quite aways from San Jose but this is a great find for me. First time I had played this course. First one off in the am. Course in good condition, friendly staff, and a very fair and fun course. I will bring friends with me next time.
Love this course
Played Laguna Seca Golf Course on 7/29/14. A very good test of golf, challenging, but fair. Tee boxes, fairways and greens in excellent condition. Bunkers were raked, and had plenty of sand in them. It is and has been one of my favorite courses for many, many years. Always look forward to play here.
the course has a GREAT lay out
I like all the down hill up hill shots the course makes you do. The greens are great and make you struggle to get par. It is just a fun course to shoot on.
nice course to play at a good price
not the most difficult in the area. always nice staff, and can get on at a very fair rate. really like the pace of play, played here about 20 times
Good features
Some tough holes like no. 9. Course has interesting holes. Conditions are good, although some strange grass is starting to creep into the greens. Otherwise greens are very good.
Beautiful views
This course has some great views. It's not super long or hard, but it does offer a challenge. I really enjoyed playing here and look forward to going back out there.
Best bargain in Monterey area
Always enjoy the unique layout. Plays depends on your skill for the day. Play conservative and have a good day. Aggressiveness does not get rewarded.
Lots of sun, lots of sand, lots of fun
Great course if booked through now.com. I paid $39 to ride 18 and it was a great value. There were a lot of bunkers but the sand was raked beautifully and made it almost fun to get out of. The course wasn't as green as it could've been but I know this area is in a drought so it's understandable.
I'm a 10-12 handicap most of the year and shot an 81. Fun course to play.
fun in the sun
Love the driving and practice range. The course and greens were in great shape. Nice views and relaxed atmosphere on a beautiful sunny day.
