Greens need work
Have played Laguna Seca about 4 times in the past two years. The greens are in pretty poor shape. This time they were recovering from being aerated but they also are very lumpy due to several different types of grasses in the green complexes. We got a special price of $29 from Golf Now which made it very cheap and enjoyable in spite of the conditions.
This course was fun and fanstatic
My first time playing Laguna Seca, I thought it would be a bit pricy. However with the GolfNow deal it was doable. The staff were friendly and made me feel welcome. The range was wide open my only hit would be the flag placements were not written on the flag boards. The course was in great shape. I had a blast , I started as a single then joined two gentlemen and had a ball playing with them. The course is easy to get around and fun to play. I can't wait to play it again when I come back up from Temecula.
To Slow! Fivesomes....really??
I have played this course a lot int he past and the course has been declining. They let fivesomes out in the morning......................slowed everything up, who lets fivesomes out anymore. Then a few hackers in between=slow play. Greens were terrible, very bumpy.
Needs a lot of work
Overall the layout is nice. The condition is lousy - ESPECIALLY the greens. I've played here 6 or 7 times and the greens always look like they were plugged a week ago. Very very bumpy. Lots of piles of dirt and muddy spots all over the course. The fairways should be stripped. The thatch is so thick it's like walking on sponge in spots. The traps are like clay, even when bone dry. I doubt they've ever been properly maintained.
I won't be back to play as there are far superior options in the area.
Great Fun!
Beautiful weather, the course was ideal and the overall experience was excellent!
Great Course but not the Greens
The only negative with the course was the greens. They were long and looked like they had been aerated several weeks before.
Fairly priced for the local
Overall we liked the course. It was not crowded and fairly priced. The only disappointment was even though the greens were punched 10 days ago, they were very slow and inconsistent .
Hidden gem on Monterey Peninsula
This Robt Trent Jones course is a must play if visiting the Monterey Peninsula. Condition is not quite perfect because of drought conditions in California, but very playable and enjoyable. Price-wise it beats Pebble, Spyglass, Spanish Bay by hundreds of dollars! Best played in AM as it can get quite windy in PM, especially in summer. Nice views of surrounding hills and valley. More difficult than slope/handicap suggests!
Uninformed of greens being sanded and punched
No mention on website that greens had been punched and sanded. Mens restrooms on course were in terrible condition. They hadn't been cleaned in months and showed terrible neglect. Score card isn't accurate compared to tee box tee coloring. Website is at best marginal in terms of providing accurate information about the course. No pictures of the course with hole-by-hole pics and descriptions. Many other courses have accurate descriptions and that helps the above average golfer manage their game. Golf carts don't have GPS.
terrible manager response to aeration complaint
I have played this course fairly regularly for years using golfnow.com and I have to say it is a fun course with a nice layout, usually in average condition.
The reason for this bad review is based on the fact that yesterday I showed up with a pre-paid deal bought a week early to guarantee a threesome only to find all the greens aerated and totally unplayable.
When I told the manager I was disappointed, his response was that it was golfnow's fault and that we should feel lucky to have paid $25 because it was a great deal. I told him that I agreed if the greens were playable, but that I thought I should at least get the $12 deal given to the fourth person who was added to our group. He totally dismissed me saying if I were a member he would be able to help me and why wasn't I a member? This kind of bad attitude and disdain for someone he thinks is getting too good a deal continued. I say don't be on golfnow.com if you don't want that business!!! And don't treat us like a bunch of bums.
I will have a real hard time going back there no matter how good the deal and and I will tell people not to be surprised at being considered a second class citizen by a management with no customer service ability.
P.S. I called golfnow.com and they handled the problem perfectly and immediately. Thanks for the great website and service.
Greens need attention
The course is great and challenging, the greens need attention, there are a lot of weeds on the greens changing your put direction as it hits the bumps and bare spots. I have played here before and the greens have been way better.
Great course
The course layout was fantastic, you had to use every club in your bag. I loved the way it made you think about every shot before you pulled out your driver and just bombed away. I would recommend that if you are in the area play this course. I will be recommending this course to my golf club for our away tournament.
cant beat the price
It was a nice course for the money.Keep up fairly well.Beautiful views.
Fun course and playable for most skill levels
Lots of fun. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and pace of play was excellent. Loved the different holes.
Beauty
Fantastic golf course, every hole has a wow factor. You have to stay engaged or the course will penalize you. After SJO, best course I have played on in Northern Cal so far.
you went to school here?
Course is great, RTJ design and it shows. really the course needs yardage on water holes; For first time players of the course. I really hate loosing a ball when i drive it great. Other then that was funnest day of golf in a long time.
Stay out of their traps!
This course was in great shape, and played a little challenging. Lots of traps and sand type varied from shallow and firm to deep and soft.
Played ok if you play straight.
Pace was perfect, lots of 2somes and still neve felt pushed or dragged.
The bar was virtually empty, service was slow and drink was made incorrectly.
Will return in the area.
Nice round for January
I teed off early to catch the 49er playoff game that afternoon. It was a cold morning wit a bit of frost. The starter suggested that I start on the back as it was wide open. Made the turn and joined another two for the final nine. Finished in under 3 hours.
The course was in good shape, we'll kept and nice greens. We'll worth the price!
*Day at Laguna Seca
Had a good time .Wed. seems to be seniors day. Disorganized, late, men showing up late and holding times up. But a good experience.
Fun round.
First time playing here - will definitely come again. Course does not beat you up as many of the newer courses do these days. That said, the greens are a bit tricky. All in all, a very nice walk in the park!
