About

Type Resort

Length 7015 yards

Rating 73.8

The highly popular El Campeon Course at Mission Inn Resort consistently ranks in the top 10 of Florida's many golf courses. The course originally opened in 1917 and decades later in 1992, it was joined by a second 18-hole course, Las Colinas. El Campeon is not only one of the state's oldest golf courses but also one of its most challenging. The traditional design remains largely unchanged except for a renovation in 1926. The course winds through towering forests and numerous spring-fed lakes. The layout features water on thirteen holes as well as dramatic elevation changes that measure over 85 feet across the rolling fairways and undulating greens. The signature hole of the golf course is the par-5 17th. This lengthy double dogleg possesses more hazards than some entire courses do.

The pace of play was painful. There was a foursome a two groups ahead of us who played extremely slow. No rangers out on the course to help with this issue. Otherwise, the course was fun.

Great course, bad starter, otherwise 5 stars

Had a 9:00 time but frost delay closed course until 9:30. Understandable. Checked in with El Campeon starter as a single, which is what I reserved. Once play was allowed I waited in the queue for my turn. Asked who I was paired with and was told I'd be playing alone. I mentioned there were about 6 foursomes ahead of me (he corrected me and told 2 of them were threesomes) and I would be waiting on every shot. PLUS, there was probably another dozen groups anxious to tee off behind me. I asked if there were any singles or twosomes I could hook up with and he informed me there was a single with a 9:56 time and I could join him. Keep in mind it is now well past 10. I told him it would make more sense to move the single up to me instead of me having to wait further. Finally agreed.

I just find it remarkable that the tee sheet there was that poorly managed....

Not to bad

I was worried about this course after reading some of the reviews, but I’m not sure what the complaints are. I’ve played all the courses in Central Florida this winter. The course is in good shape. The greens were gray, and the fairways were lush. The roof was just the rough. I got a hot deal so it was worth the money. And compared to what other course of they’re charging it’s worth it.

Excellent

The course was very accommodating and super nice. I had made a mistake of our tee time and didn’t realize until I got to the clubhouse check in that I had already missed my Pre-paid GolfNow tee time. The gentleman at the counter said no problem the starter will help us out. The starter said that he would get us out shortly and was able to. The course is in excellent condition and a challenging course with all the elevation changes. Greens roll true, but can be fast down hill so try and place your approach shots. Would recommend to anyone who wants a memorable experience

Meh.

Course was in rougher shape than I’d expect. Lots of bare spots in the rough, lots of divots on tee boxes and in fairways. Greens were fast and true.

Challenging layout with small fast dramatically contoured greens. Narrow fairways with lots of overhanging trees. Shotmakers course.

Pace of play was horrible due to 8 minute tee times, no starter, or ranger for el campion course. Lots of foursomes and not getting paired with anyone as a single.

Restaurant was expensive and messed up order. Ordered a club wrap and got a Caesar wrap instead. Also $18 for a Cuban sandwich and fries.

Course allows ride-alongs but charges a cart fee.

Conditions Could Be Better

Overall the facility is very nice and the staff were extremely courteous. The layout was good, but we found the conditions to be sub par. The fairways lacked grass in many places throughout the course. The bare lies in the middle of the fairways detracted from the experience.

Very Challenging!

This course is probably one of the more challenging courses in all of Central Florida. BUT, I always enjoy playing here with all the steep elevation changes. Reminds me of playing back home in NC. The only criticism I have is they’ve recently rearranged the tee boxes and now the black tees (tips) are gone and now the blue tees are the tips…problem is the scoreboard doesn’t reflect the change. My group played from the white tees which is supposed to be 6200 based on the scoreboard but all of our second shots on Par 4s were 200+ yards out which leads me to believe ALL the tee boxes have been moved back and not reflected on the scorecard. Other than that the round was fun. Fairways and greens in great shape!

El Campeon is Muy Muy Bueno

Challenging and beautiful course that was a pleasant surprise in the middle of the countryside in Central Florida and built in 1917. Challenging layout, tight greens and a very accommodating staff with the latest golf cart technology. Will definitely play again.
