About

Type Resort

Rating 73.8

The highly popular El Campeon Course at Mission Inn Resort consistently ranks in the top 10 of Florida's many golf courses. The course originally opened in 1917 and decades later in 1992, it was joined by a second 18-hole course, Las Colinas. El Campeon is not only one of the state's oldest golf courses but also one of its most challenging. The traditional design remains largely unchanged except for a renovation in 1926. The course winds through towering forests and numerous spring-fed lakes. The layout features water on thirteen holes as well as dramatic elevation changes that measure over 85 feet across the rolling fairways and undulating greens. The signature hole of the golf course is the par-5 17th. This lengthy double dogleg possesses more hazards than some entire courses do.

Must Play

El Campeon is one of the courses that you can play in Central Florida. If you think that you have game and want something different from the flat, water and bunker courses in the area, play it! The elevation changes trees and dogleg are challenging. Course conditions are very good. The only complaint was pace of play. The foursome ahead of me took 4 hrs and 45 minutes to complete the round.

Excellent Course

First time playing this course. Driving range was closed and hole 2 green was under repair and had a temp green. Those were the only negatives about the course. Greens and tee boxes were in great shape. Many elevations changes and water hazards Very challenging for me being an 18 handicap. Will definitely play again and will try the Los Colinas course also.

Well Maintained

Course had some wet areas, and areas under repair. Otherwise, great shape with fantastic greens and maintained bunkers. A great place for hot deals.

Must play in central Florida

Mission Inn El Campion is a must play for any serious player. The layout with severe elevation changes and tough greens are a great test of golf. The greens had been recently been punched and need about 2-3 weeks to get back to normal. They are puttable, but much slower than normal. The course plays much longer than the scorecard due to the numerous holes that require uphill tee or approach shots. Despite the recent heavy rains, the fairways and bunkers were in good condition. After the round be sure to get a burger at Nickers restaurant, best burger in town. If the range had been open (closed for maintenance) and the greens completely recovered from aerification, El Campion would have been up to its usual 5 star standards.

Best deal in the state

Always love playing at Mission Inn. Historic course in great shape, and little traffic on a hot day. If you can handle the summer heat, you can typically play 18 in well under 3 hours.

10 out of 10

From top to bottom, from customer service to the greens… They really have their act together, and care about you like we all want to be cared about. What a concept…

Thank you John, Dick and the rest for making my 16 year old son, literally fall in love with the sport of golf, after he played here one time!!!

We’re playing Las Colinas week, and “The Champion” again next week…

See you soon!

Tee off first, or expect a 5 hour round

Course is in excellent shape, but we tee’d at 7:00 and a family of 4 with 2 young children went off at 6:40, not a ranger in sight, and they were allowed to play a 5.5 hour round. Great course, great conditions, very poor management of pace of play. Makes a nice course miserable to play.

Stop and smell the flowers. Golf is not a speed sport. 5.5 hours with this beautiful area

I would think 6 hours would be

Very rewarding.
