About

Rating 73.8

The highly popular El Campeon Course at Mission Inn Resort consistently ranks in the top 10 of Florida's many golf courses. The course originally opened in 1917 and decades later in 1992, it was joined by a second 18-hole course, Las Colinas. El Campeon is not only one of the state's oldest golf courses but also one of its most challenging. The traditional design remains largely unchanged except for a renovation in 1926. The course winds through towering forests and numerous spring-fed lakes. The layout features water on thirteen holes as well as dramatic elevation changes that measure over 85 feet across the rolling fairways and undulating greens. The signature hole of the golf course is the par-5 17th. This lengthy double dogleg possesses more hazards than some entire courses do.

Great Value!

This course was mentioned on a few "lists" when doing research prior to our trip to Orlando, and it didn't disappoint. I wasn't expecting the elevation changes! Nice layout and well maintained. The greens were a little slow when I played, but I'm sure they get much faster at different times of the year, particularly when they are hosting a Q School. Plenty of water and sand, but also pretty wide and open. Enjoyable for high handicappers and challenging from back tees for the low ones. I booked through golf now and got it for around 60...well worth it, would def recommend!

Wow

Beautiful course, very narrow and incredibly difficult greens to read. This is a great course to help you realize how good of a golfer you thought you were. Will definitely return to challenge the beast again...oh yeah need to bring plenty of golf balls.

Very nice course, friendly staff, good conditioning, no walking allowed sadly, a little over treed - too many plantings. Overall I like this course very much and recommend it.

Well worth the drive

Best conditions and layout for the price anywhere in the Orlando area. The quintessential Florida layout, but with hills. Immaculate greens that were quick and smooth. If you haven’t played here, you should.

Huge pet peeve

Not a good experience. If you can't mow the tee boxes then why is the course open. If your tee time is 10:26 and you don't tee off until 11:15, did you possibly over book. If it takes 5:15 to play, maybe a ranger makes some sense. Decent lay out, but wouldn't recommend it.

Worth a visit

Challenging and pleasing to the eye. Great conditions, fast greens that ran true and had some tough slopes. Some good elevation on some holes.

Always a challenge

Course is in great shape although the fairways have a few thin spots. We had a threesome of Sunshine State Amateur competitors in front of us for 9 holes so the front side was excruciatingly slow (2 1/2 hours for a threesome!). Despite the apparent inability of the tourney competitors to expeditiously read and putt marginally quick greens, we were able to finish before dark. Greens were smooth and rolled true so it’s hard to understand why it took scratch golfers so long to putt out ON EVERY HOLE! Anyway, El Campeon is unique among FL courses due to the several dramatic elevation changes and is a truly great test of one’s golfing abilities and I would highly recommend it!!

Big Elevation Changes

I liked the Campeon Course more than Las Colinas. A lot more interesting layout, with some big elevation changes, which is unusual in Florida.
