About

Holes 18
Type Resort
Par 72
Length 7015 yards
Slope 136
Rating 73.8

The highly popular El Campeon Course at Mission Inn Resort consistently ranks in the top 10 of Florida's many golf courses. The course originally opened in 1917 and decades later in 1992, it was joined by a second 18-hole course, Las Colinas. El Campeon is not only one of the state's oldest golf courses but also one of its most challenging. The traditional design remains largely unchanged except for a renovation in 1926. The course winds through towering forests and numerous spring-fed lakes. The layout features water on thirteen holes as well as dramatic elevation changes that measure over 85 feet across the rolling fairways and undulating greens. The signature hole of the golf course is the par-5 17th. This lengthy double dogleg possesses more hazards than some entire courses do.

Great course, very challenging...

The course was in excellent condition, they had a snack cart, facilities were nice , fairways where well kept, the greens rolled well and the golf carts were electric , quiet and extremely fast with extra power to get up the steep elevations... All in all a very enjoyable experience!...

Mission Inn - Hidden Gem

My wife and I stayed at Mission Inn Resort so we could play both Las Colinas and El Campeon courses. It was a fantastic experience and we will definitely be back. The courses were in great shape and the resort was great as well. I highly recommend it as a nice getaway.

Unusual Florida layout offers fun round

I had heard various things about the old course at Mission Inn but wanted to see for myself.

First, the driving range. The balls and teeing area were very acceptable. But the range itself? The term "goat ranch" may have been too kind. Somebody got a mower?

The layout was quite interesting and the course played longer than its listed yardage. After a few holes I got it...no roll..and on many holes you drove into or up a steep hill.

Ok..no problem.

But my main complaint was the greens, which appeared to be in fine shape, had been top dressed to the max. The putting green was not so marred. Putting was a joke at best. I understand that these maintenance issues must be done. But how about a little warning or suggesting that we play the new 18?

Classic Course. MUST PLAY!

This course is a classic gem that cannot be overlooked by any serious golfer. El Campeon is a 103-year-old course located in the middle-of-nowhere, Florida. This is the second time I've played it and there is no other course in the state like this one. Bold hills, challenging bunkers & greens, extraordinary surroundings. The conditions, amenities, and playability are a bit on the rough side, but the overall experience is unmatched. I can't wait to play here again!

Slow Play Day

Course was in good shape but the pace of play was slow and no rangers out there to speed it up. Other than that great place & value.

Good course

fun, challenging, good layout, tee boxes beat up, some greens were beat up, pace of play was terrible. All things considered, id play it again. Also, would recommend to friends. If they fixed the pace of play issues, it would be a great course. 5.5 hours as a single was rough.

First time!

We did not know what to expect. It is like a diamond in the rough!! There are few elevations on some holes. We loved the 17 holes! The fairways were wet in few spots. The green are some what slowed. All overall is the best course for the price.

My go-to course

Always run and challenging. The course was in great shape. The greens have recovered from a recent punching and sanding so they were true.

Don't miss visiting this beautiful resort.

I just brought our Tee to Green Players Club to play at Mission Inn and the day was wonderful. The course was in great shape as it always is. The staff is outstanding and very accommodating. The lunch after golf was delicious and served quickly. We love playing there and will return as much as possible.

There us nothing not to like about the Mission Inn Golf experience.

Staff helpfulness

Took 16 golfers. When we arrived all carts were set up and bag drip personal were great. Once we got to pro shop to check in it went down hill. Only one person working. Pro sat in his office watching the huge back up ( line out the door) and never offered to help even though there were 3 computers to check golfers in. We got rained out after 10 holes. Pro shop again packed with requests for rain checks. Same result. One overwhelmed employee as Pro sat in office never offering help. Pro never even asked us if we needed anything. Restaurant was closed. Greens were not cut and played slow.

What happened to the greens? All dirt and bumpy grass.

Played here about a month ago and the greens were fine. They are now a mess, mostly dirt and bumpy grass, an embarrassment to this grand old course. I think the resort should either close the course until the greens recover or at least advise prospective golfers of the condition accompanied by a steep discount. I also had problem with the online booking and billing and the pro shop staff was indifferent and unwilling to help. I have been used to a higher level of customer service in the past.

Greens and rough

Greens slow, but very true . Too much rain the last few weeks. Hit it firm, and it’ll go in.

Rough mostly challenging Bermuda, tall and thick.

Great course and unique elevation for Florida

It was drizzling in the beginning of the round but it did not stop us. Once it dried out a bit greens were fast. Nice views except the slow folks that played in front of us. Elevation changes were awesome for a Florida course. Definitely worth the drive.

El Campeon Dirt Greens

Not sure what El Campeon course the recent reviewers were playing. Greens in poor condition, don’t believe the canned propaganda emails from Mission Inn. Half the greens were dirt, not talking about aeration etc. Won’t be going back until somebody I know plays it and says greens are normal. Fees should be adjusted for conditions, $55 in August for dirt greens is not the way to keep a loyal clientele.
