About

Type Resort

Length 7015 yards

Rating 73.8

The highly popular El Campeon Course at Mission Inn Resort consistently ranks in the top 10 of Florida's many golf courses. The course originally opened in 1917 and decades later in 1992, it was joined by a second 18-hole course, Las Colinas. El Campeon is not only one of the state's oldest golf courses but also one of its most challenging. The traditional design remains largely unchanged except for a renovation in 1926. The course winds through towering forests and numerous spring-fed lakes. The layout features water on thirteen holes as well as dramatic elevation changes that measure over 85 feet across the rolling fairways and undulating greens. The signature hole of the golf course is the par-5 17th. This lengthy double dogleg possesses more hazards than some entire courses do.

Solid

Greens were close to being back to pre punch. By this weekend they will be close to perfect. Course was great all the way around. Night before had late rain so course was as expected moist. Grounds crew didn't prep bunkers for the days rounds. Management needs to send a crew out early to take care of bunkers which wasn't done. Range ball price is a bit of a fleece. 8 dollars and 14 dollars for what you get is a joke. If you pay 60 dollars for a round you gotta do a better job than that. Course in great shape and solid conditions.

Nice place but prefer Las Colinas

Overall this course is nice, I realize it's old but I dont like the proximity of tee boxes to previous greens. Conditions were good but wet due to rains which they obviously can't help. The range was tore up bad and I think they could have moved hitting area back to allow for better grass. Putting green was bad but recently aerated. Didn't seem like it was cut in a couple days. Staff was nice and pace was decent. 4.5 hours on a wet resort course is acceptable. I honestly prefer Las Colinas which is a gem of a layout imo. Never had less than a perfect round there. Overall a 4 out of 5 for El Campeon.

Nice Course at this time

The pace of play was outstanding, I finished my round in less the three hours as I played alone. The greens were in decent shape but there were several with bare areas around the edges. The fairways were in good shape. Great views from tee boxes and hills around the course.

Avoid the staff

Avoid the staff as much you can and you will have a good day at golf. It seems like every time I play this course I have one or more of the staff being rude to me for something I have no control over. I think you should stop and talk to you staff ( office and the cart - starters people ) I have never had a problem with the cart girl ( food cart ) I love the course so I put up with it but some people don’t like that sort of rudeness

Great Layout. Greens Terrible Shape

I love the layout at Mission Inn but it's hard to pay near $60 and have greens in as bad of shape as they were. I wouldn't play it again at this rate.

Good golfing test

This course is designed to emphasize shot-making. There is a mixture of wide and narrow fairways along with well protected greens. If you do not know your yardage for each club of if you can not adjust for elevated greens, do not expect to score well. Heavy rains caused holes # 1 & 18 to be cart path only. Otherwise, the course is in very good condition.

Yes we will squeeze you in...

I love this course ...always have...I play a lot all over central Florida and North Georgia... and this is a gem. But since the Covid ...golf seems to be not only surviving but doing great ...as for this time of year(in the past), this coarse is rarely over booked...that being said...I understand for them to capitalize on this increased desire to play is important...but at who's cost...as the start had no starter...a bunch of people started piling up and right off the bat we were behind and led to slow paced round....at one point our 4 some had separated from the 4 some's behind us...as we like to be under 4 hours when possible...we play at a steady pace...I noticed someone with a Rangers Flag practicing on the hole behind us...maybe If he was the ranger...he could have been up front encouraging faster past in front...and obviously behind....On long HOT days 5 hour rounds are too much...and really not worth the drive....again...I love this course...but the last 3 times have been a bit too much...If you have a ranger...he doesn't have to be rude but a gentle nudge...would probably do the trick. And maybe a real starter...as there always seems to be confusion ...they do have you check in but no-one seems to take control and get everyone off on time...It should be my responsibility to ask the groups in front or behind their starting times...a..maybe an intercom with group names being announced.

Great experience

The course is very challenging but not unfair. The views and vistas are spectacular. We were told the greens had been aerated a week earlier but you couldn’t tell; they were in great shape, rolled true and were receptive to both approach and bunker shots. Accuracy is rewarded and never a crazy bounce. The signature island greens are spectacular. We will be back to enjoy this track. Should have taken more than one picture.

Beautiful Course

I played El Campenon and it was very enjoyable and memorable. Played during week early in morning so pace was fantastic, finished in 3:15. The layout is excellent with a nice mix of different holes, dogleg rights, lefts, uphill, downhill, long, medium, etc. holes and challenging par 3s. Thoroughly enjoyed the course and would highly recommend. You won't be disappointed.
