The highly popular El Campeon Course at Mission Inn Resort consistently ranks in the top 10 of Florida's many golf courses. The course originally opened in 1917 and decades later in 1992, it was joined by a second 18-hole course, Las Colinas. El Campeon is not only one of the state's oldest golf courses but also one of its most challenging. The traditional design remains largely unchanged except for a renovation in 1926. The course winds through towering forests and numerous spring-fed lakes. The layout features water on thirteen holes as well as dramatic elevation changes that measure over 85 feet across the rolling fairways and undulating greens. The signature hole of the golf course is the par-5 17th. This lengthy double dogleg possesses more hazards than some entire courses do.

A must play

This is simply an outstanding golf experience. The course is special and is well worth the effort to get here. Once you are here, the facilities and personnel are top notch. Shout out to the friendliest ranger (sorry forgot your name) who made me feel at home. The layout and design of the course is exceptional. Even though it poured rain and then got cold I was smiling from ear to ear playing this course. The final four holes are a remarkable challenge testing everything you have in your skill set. I’m looking forward to coming back.

Great Experience

I played this course 47 years ago and was excited to come and play it again and see what I could remember from way back when. Obviously, the course has changed but I was able to recognize several of the holes. The course was, and still is ,very challenging with lots of water, sand and elevation changes. However, it is very fair and rewards well positioned shots. My wife and I stayed at the resort for two nights and the staff everywhere, from the hotel check-in, golf shop, and restaurants treated us like we owned the place. In fact, we even met the owner and he was very gracious and friendly as well! I strongly recommend that you give this resort and golf course a try. You won't be disappointed !

I played "El Campeon" and it was pretty wet from all the rain which made it play long for an old guy like me, even from the Challenger Tees-6072 yds. The greens were a little slower than I am used to, but they were really smooth. Much faster and a 4 hour round would have turned into a 5 hr round. I'm sure they are faster once the growing season gets here, but like I said, they were very smooth! Bunkers were wet but were well maintained and had plenty of sand.Pace of play was fine. You don't want to run around a course like this and not enjoy the overall beauty of the property and its gators and many birds. Just enjoy!

Great Day on the Course

Never played here but it was highly recommended by other golfers we've been paired with so made the hour long drive and enjoyed this classic Fl course with a lot of character. Read some of the negative reviews and was a little concerned. The starter paired us up with 2 great golfers from Denmark and they got us out a little early. We played in 4 hours and had a great time. Any issue with conditions did not affect us at all. Get a hot deal and enjoy your round.

Wait wait wait

I had to wait on every hole

Every 8 minutes is not good on a course where

there is no rangers I think they should go to every 10 minutes they would only lose 1 on 2 tee times a day

Very Disappointing!

We were disappointed after driving 1 1/2 hrs to play this course. First the course conditions are not as good as the Las Colinas that we have played a few times.

The pace of play was ridiculous, they started us out 20 minutes later than our tee time and then we waited every shot. They had no ranger to call out the slow play. So if they are going to book a tee time every 8 minutes they need to have a ranger! Hard to get any rythem when you have to wait every shot, made for a miserable round. The course was a bit thin in spots, which is understandable for this time of year but for the price it does not compare to the cost and quality of Las Colinas, Juliet Falls and several others we have been playing. There are other unique courses in better condition, and better overall experience for less money. Will not play here again.

We believe in honest reviews as we read the reviews before playing new courses.

HORRIBLE!!

I have played here several times in the past, This will definitely be the last.

We travel to Orlando every year and play 7-10 rounds of golf at various courses. I received many emails from Mission Inn raving about their great course conditions. So we decided to play one of our last rounds of this trip there. What a mistake.

Starting with the positives:

- Large practice range

- Large putting green

- Beverage cart came around often

- Starter Larry very personable

After that it is hard not to be critical. Our round started at 11:40 and finished at 5:15!! Five hours and 35 minutes!! NEVER once did we see a ranger on the course.

Course conditions- Greens were average at best. Bunkers had not been groomed for the day, Fairways were sparce and some were under repair.

If you were off the fairways you most likely were playing off of dirt, as the course needs some major work in providing some rough to play off of.

Tee boxes were in fair shape.

We played several courses in the area and they were in good shape at a much better value. If it wasn't for Mission Inn's history this course wouldn't be around.

Unless you have nowhere else to play I would avoid it (even if you have nowhere else to play you may just want to go shopping instead),

Excellent experience

This course has a lot of character, history and very challenging holes. We totally enjoyed our first ever round at El Campeon and want to revisit the course again soon. The only source of dissatisfaction was the pace of play. As a resort course, some of the foursomes had no clue as to keep the line moving. It was a 5+ hour round with too many lapses to establish a rhythm.

Course past it’s prime

I was surprised to find that this course was very overrated. The greens were okay but they were pretty slow. The rough and even the fairways leading up to the greens were terrible. The elevation changes make for good scenery but the holes themselves were pretty basic. It’s a very easy course that plays harder than it because of its condition. Can’t chip or pitch here for anything.

Great course! Slow play!

This course is absolutely amazing! I have been here two times in the last couple of months and both times the actual course condition was fantastic! This time though, my biggest beef was the pace of play. There was a foursome ahead of us that was dreadfully slow. They would spend a ridiculous amount of time looking for their ball, driving the carts from one side of the fairway to the other and back toward the tee box. Then when they got to the green, it seemed like forever waiting for them to clear. The two foursomes behind us even teamed up to make a eightsome! Overall took it over 5 hours to complete the round. So if you don't mind slow play and this is your baby. Beautiful course with all the amenities you could ask for. I will play here again, only praying for quicker round! :)

Disappointed in conditions

I’ve played El Campeon many times and think it is one of the best layouts in central Florida. Today, which was my first time playing EC since last fall, I was disappointed in the course conditions. I recently have received many emails from Mission Inn touting the “great” condition of both courses so my expectations were high only to find the conditions to be mediocre at best. The rough was thin, almost bare, in many spots and the fairways were sparse and full of unsanded divots. The tees, for the most part, were good but several of the par 3 tees were chewed up. On the other hand, the greens were excellent and a very good speed! While I was disappointed by the conditions compared to other central FL courses I’ve played recently, I still highly recommend El Campeon because of the exceptional layout and the excellent condition of the greens.

One of the best courses in the Orlando Area

This was my second time playing El Campeon at Mission Inn and it did not disappoint. I was fantastic, just as it was the first time I played the course.

The staff is friendly and accommodating. They have nice practice facility areas which is always appreciated.

I really like the El Campeon course. One of the real challenges of the course are the greens. You have to leave your approach shot to the green In the right spot or you can easily three putt. Some of the greens are treacherous and challenging with slopes, undulations and subtle breaks. The course is very hilly with lots of elevation changes, especially for a Florida course. The greens were a little on the slow side today, but that is a good thing because it would have been very challenging to fast greens with the slopes and undulations.

The course conditions were very good. From the first hole through the 18th, each was a true challenge with plenty of risk/reward. The scenery is beautiful. The 17th hole which is one of the more challenging holes in golf. The 17th hole is the number one handicap hole on the course and it is called “Devils Delight” due to its challenge.

El Campeon is one of the nicest courses northwest of Orlando. If you are not close it is still well worth your drive to enjoy this course. From the picturesque views , nice fairways and challenging greens. You will not be disappointed! The course is tough and beautiful. You will definitely use every club in your bag.

From the first hole through the 18th, each was a challenge with plenty of risk/reward. I’d go back and play just to experience the 17th hole which I believe is one of the most amazing holes in golf!
