Very tough target golf course
If you enjoy target golf courses you will love this one. It is very demanding from tee to green, but unlike most Johnny Miller courses the greens weren't stupid. This is a must play course if you want a challenge.
Female golfers
Female golfers really need to review what tee boxes they play from. On the Desperado nine, I was hitting off the tees with irons. Hole 9 required a nine iron drive. Not as much fun as it should have been.
Desperado/Diablo
I am not a big fan of johnny miller design courses, because most of them are not players' friendly, this course does offer challenges and need to play a few times to know where to hit your best shot.. Unfortunately this time of year , the course is recovering from overseeding, so about 9 holes was cart path only, gps was not always offering any good tips, and never always noted how far any trouble was? And still sparse on fairways, almost had to bump ball alot... Price wasn't bad for resident , but would pay too much to play here, this time of yr...
Tough but a must play
You will never play a course like this again in your life. Very, very challenging, but amazing holes in a desert canyon atmosphere. Very good conditions and really friendly staff. Go in knowing you will shoot higher scores and lose more balls than normal, then have fun. Definitely more target golf.
Great deal
Price we paid was awesome - very fun course, greens could have been in better condition. Lots of divots on the greens. Still would recommend the course.
This course omitted mentioning the playing conditions for the 18 of 27 holes that were open for play
I can only assume that golfnow.com was given no pertinent
information about the playing condition of the Diablo and
Desperado nine holes.
The Diablo was CART PATH ONLY and the Desperado had
only 3 holes out of 7 (didn't count the 2 par threes), which
you could drive the cart on the fairway.
It is imperative for my wife and I to know if there are any
driving restrictions. My wife is diabetic and has a nerve
disorder called peripheral neuropathy. She can only walk short distances without fear of falling or hurting her feet.
Only when we were ready to tee off were we informed by the
starter that the Diablo course was cart path only. I told him of
my wife's condition and he didn't even think to grant us a
disabled flag. Instead, he suggested we play the Desperado nine twice and said , except for one hole, we could drive to our
balls. As it turned out, 4 of the holes were roped off. After 8 holes my wife couldn't play anymore. I played the 9th hole and then we left.
Today, my wife woke up and here left foot is swollen and black
and blue. It is more than likely a small broken bone in her foot
or a toe. I am absolutely livid as I write this.
First, the course never mentioned the playing conditions on
golfnow.com, and then they made no exception for my
disabled wife. And, we live on a golf course, Rhodes Ranch,
which always provides us with a disabled flag for our cart.
We also were members of a country club in Palm Springs years ago, so we are well informed on rules and regulations.
Just pathetic from start to finish. I had read from 46 reviews
on golfnow.com , and many were negative and specifically
directed at the staff and not the golf course itself. Now I see why.
Not informing the public of accurate and current playing
conditions, is wrong. Caring more about some blades of grass
than the welfare of a golfer is wrong. I suggest you either get
Badlands to list any restrictions or drop them from your program.
Sincerely,
James Denney
Nice
Never played the course before, but got hooked up with a couple of real nice local golfers. They were a big help, telling me where I should try to hit the ball. 'They had just finished with the overseeding so the one nine we played on was cart path only. Not much you can do about that, but if you require a cart at all times I would phone ahead to see if everything is opened. Lots of areas that you have to carry before getting to the green stuff!! Most times if you miss the fairways your in desert conditions and not much chance of getting your ball back. More of a shot makers couse, not just bang away all over the place. I would likely play it again for the $50.00 price I got it for on golfnow.com. Thought $4.50 for a logo ball was a bit much.
Good course I would play again
The course was in very good condition considering it was over seeded just two weeks prior. One down side was cart path only for 9 holes. Overall a nice course with good staff.
crazy design on Diablo course
Terrible design. Tight target golf with forced 150yd lay ups.
Take lots of balls with you.
Bring lots of golf balls if you don't know your yardages per club.
Can be a difficult course if you don't know your club yardages. The course was just coming out of reseeding so you have to give a little for that.
Not a good value
The driving range was closed with no area to chip. They also started too many groups and no marshals to maintain pace of play. After 5 hours, my group decided to quit after 15 holes. I did notice on my ride back to the club house there were 4 groups on # 18.
Fun course, greens need a LOT of work
This is a good course, but the greens are in HORRIBLE shape. There are so many burn marks and divot scars it was amazing. This course is the pinnacle of target golf (which I don't mind). The round was very slow, but I didn't expect anything different with a super-twilight start.
I know the course is under new management, so I hope the are in the process of improving the conditions of the greens. I love the course, but will not play again until they are vastly improved.
Great course
Loved it! Keep the driver in the bag if you want to score. Played it 2 days in a row. !st day I took 6 penalty strokes on my way to an 84. Bagged the driver on most of the holes and knew where to hit it on the 2nd day. Shot 2 over. Must play course!
Put Badlands on your bucket list
Consists of 3 nine hole courses which are rotated to keep conditions great. Outlaw is the easiest it you must but go for the others if you can.
Target Golf, Bent Grass greens, Back nine cart path only, very slow play, no marshalls, residents paid $20 and I paid $60 for same tee time.
I made an afternoon tee time to get an affordable rate. I arrived early, driving range was closed. so I putted for a bit. Finally paired with a two-some, after my scheduled tee time. Back nine was cart path only. Three yahoo's slowed the entire course down so much nobody finished. I paid $60 to play 15 holes. Everyone around me were residents and only played $20. No marshalls! I dont mind paying for value. Three times the going rate is not value.
Very unique experience.
This course is different from what most people expect. It has three 9 hole courses which vary in style and method of play. While most of the fairways are wide enough to accomodate errant shots, there is a definite penalty for going off the fairway. The greens are smooth and undulating. They offer a reward for accurate shots or a potential 3 Putt is the proper position is not achieved. The staff is very friendly and accomodating.and the course is worth the time. PS.. Buy a yardage book as many holes are not always visable from the tee. It will be worth it in either lost shots or lost balls!
Terrible course condition
I think this course should be ashamed for charging the prices they are requiring for the condition it is in! Of all the golf I have played around the US and over seas the past ten years, this was the worst, hands down...
Had a great experience.
Course conditions on the front nine were great. Back nine was being reseeded for the season. Staff was apologetic and we understood the conditions prior to play. Had a fantastic experience.
Soild Layout!
Awesome Staff!
Great Value
Played the same 9 twice
as one nine being left to die
due to over seeding preparations...
Eh...
I really can't complaining since I got such a good deal on golf now - but I called the course am was told the conditions were great. Front 9 was ok, tee boxes were way overgrown but fairways and greens were solid.
Back 9 was not worth playing though. They were letting the fairways burn out to reseed I guess, but had I known that I probably would have played somewhere else.
Obviously not the typical conditions but I was annoyed that I called to ask and was basically lied to.
The course layout itself was fine.
