Beautiful day for golf
Other than the rude teens who seemed to be having some kind of tournament make up play, complete with referees, who constantly hit balls up on our group, even though EVERYONE was backed up and slow, it was a great course with some interesting lies. Actually love the chipping / putting area in front of the first hole. good use of waiting time for on deck players
Playing here for 15 years- 10 hdcp
Palm Valley has always been a fine track. Nothing spectacular, but a good, enjoyable round every time. Wide fairways allow you to blast off from the tees, but there are teeth in the last three par-3s as they are extremely tough up and downs if you miss the greens. The bunkers can be real hazards- mostly little sand covering a hard clay bottom that will have you drop-kicking your ball across the green on any downhill lie, so beware. This, however, is a trait of many Las Vegas courses as the sand gets scoured out of the bunkers due to desert windy conditions. As a note, most greens will break towards the valley as the course sits just shy of the mountains.
The course is usually fairly lush with somewhat forgiving rough. Today the course was understandably showing some scruffiness at the end of winter with near-hardpan, dormant bermuda rough making for more difficult shots from all but flat lies, but the greens were still in very good shape. They are currently the fastest on the West side of town which is making the putting more difficult than usual. But still, like an old friend, it's comfy even when it's a little cranky like today.
If you're a local, get the Loyalty Card. for $20 you get a $5 discount and a free small range bucket to hit every round, 2 free rounds after you play 8 and allowed entry into a couple of special events a year. Great deal and it's good for either Sun City courses.
Bad spacing
Great layout and conditioning. Terrible planning on the size of groups. A 3some followed by 1 by 3 by 1 ,1 2, 2.No marshalkls to try to put these togrther. Last six holes had at least 4 groups on the same hole
Challenging; fast greens
First time playing the course. It was challenging, but made even more with the windy conditions. Greens were undulating and fast. It was fun, a great value and definitely want to play it again.....hopefully in less windy conditions.
Good Value
I play Vegas every year, for the price, I plan to play again.
Great Course
I enjoyed the course very much. The course was just hard enough to for my level of playing and there was some fantastic views.
Nice layout. Challenging.
Was impressed with the course conditions. Challenging layout with not too many obstacles. Greens were extremely fast, not helped by the windy conditions. Great value for the money.
Awesomeness is what it is!!!
most accommodating staff .. amazing course ... great pace of play.. Cheers!!
IT WAS GOOD
ITS A NICE SHORT COURSE, LOTS OF WATER, ONLY COMES INTO PLAY ONCE OR TWICE, GREENS WERE AWESOME, ITS A NICE COURSE IF YOUR LOOKING NOT TO STRUGGLE TO MUCH AND WANT TO HAVE SOME FUN WITH IT.
Excellent Value
The course was in very good condition and we had a great overall experience. It's not a difficult course but there are challenges and it's perfect for the higher than scratch player. Everything is convenient around the clubhouse, there are nice bathroom facilities on the course, everyone was friendly, and green fees were very reasonable. We look forwarded to playing this course again soon.
My golf review
WE were delayed 20 minutes on our tee time and then had a 4:40 round . So that's 5 hours on the course, which is way too long for a week day. It seems to be the theme at alot of courses but they just don't care. You can't have a good round when you're waiting on every shot. Pace of play is the #1 problem in golf right now.
Really good course
First time playing palm valley. Played 9 holes twice and loved it. Wonderful course, well taken care of and staff were great. Ate in the lounge, wonderful omelettes!, then went back out to play another 9 wee liked it so much.
Very nice golf course
Very nice will be better when they fix the cart path
Under construction
This course is currently being renovated. Only mats on the range, no water to drink on the course, some fairways completely torn up. No GPS on the carts and no yardage markers anywhere. I think the course will be decent next year. I will not go back this year.
Great round in vegas
Had great reception, nice treatment, great value for the course only being half opened
Would consider next Vegas trip out to play Palm Valley
Fairways
Some fairways hard to hit, greens in good shape you need to know how to read them
Squandered Opportunity
I had heard a lot of good things about this course and arranged a round for 3 players. Paid it all online. However, upon arriving we were informed that they were repairing the cart-paths on the front 9 and our 18 was just the back 9 two times in a row. Don't get me wrong: we still played, but the anticipation was gone after 9 holes and that's no fun...
We were almost entirely alone, so we played at our own relaxed pace without crowding anyone in front or holding up anyone behind. The food was excellent but the beer selection catered to the retirees who live in Sun City, so unless you're into the watered down light brews, bring your own liquid refreshment. For the adventurous golfer not bound by a score-sheet, Hole 18 has a sharp dogleg and offers an excellent chance to try a controlled slice or a high drive to avoid laying up and playing it safe. Bottom line: if I'd known it would be two rounds of the same 9 holes, I'd have golfed somewhere else...
A little Gem!
Started off with a very reasonably priced and excellent breakfast! The weather was perfect and the course somewhat varied, with tricky greens. Some nice forced carries, and the course was not too long from the whites. We played a "family scramble" and did well and had fun. We'd definitely pay again!
Thanks for the review on GolfAdvisor! We are happy that you found our facilities to be on par with your expectations! Please come back and play again sometime!
