Arthur Hills at Palmetto Hall Plantation
About
The experience of playing the Arthur Hills Course at Palmetto Hall takes on an added dimension when you discover that the golf course was built on an old Civil War garrison. History aside, however, the Hills Course, which opened in 1991, stands proudly as yet another grand achievement by the legendary Ohio-born designer.
"At Palmetto Hall, golfers have to deal with another element when they miss their mark - the rough," said former TravelGolf.com writer Shane Sharp. "The cabbage is grown thick in the summer months, consisting of a deadly blend of Bermuda around the greens and Bahia along the fairways.
"Arthur Hills can be notorious for creating difficult courses like his course at Palmetto Hall. This course really demands accuracy or you can put some big numbers on your scorecard."
Playing the forward tees will give resort golfers enough of a challenge to keep them happy, while better golfers will be heavily challenged from the tips, which play nearly 7,000 yards, with a slope of 136.

Great course, good fun and a great price
Really enjoyed Arthur Hills... nice layout, good condition, good cart path ...no complaints....have just rebooked and at USD 49.99 it's great value..
Enjoyed the Day
Enjoyed the day despite high winds and cart path only. We have had considerable rain in past two days, but course drained very well. Greens were understandably slow, but in good condition. Pace of play was off due to a slow foursome two groups ahead who were likely not accustomed to cart path only, and club selection and conditions were slowing them down.
Pace of play
We had 4.5” of rain in the last two days course wAs cart path only 100% understand pace play was off by 45 minutes +/- still a course you should play if you’re on the iland!. Great staff
BobC
The course was in great shape. Green rolled good. Go play course lots of fun for the money.
Best so far at this price range.
Was very pleasantly surprised. Excellent price for on island. This is a really nice layout. Course was in good shape for this time of year. Tee boxes good, fairways not over seeded so thin but NOT bare spotted so very playable, greens are painted but are in good shape with good bite but a little slow. Bunkers have a good sand base and where well trimmed. Cart paths in excellent condition.
Will play again for sure and would recommend.
nice Track But
Tee off good
Fairways some damp but in general good condition
Traps fluffy with solid base easy to play out of
Rough dormant and short
Greens lush unfortunately Extremely Slow lik velcro on an uphill putt. Not much faster downgrain.
Layout is an interesting track lot of variety. but again greens way too slow for me and my wife.
Most impressive course on HHI
The Hills course is an impressive piece of architecture. The greens are huge and the bunkering around them is beautiful and complex. I found myself just staring at the massive movement of the earth. Every hole received the attention of the architect from tee to green. Great shot-making is a constant requirement. Multiple tees allow golfers of all skill levels to play. This course is an absolute MUST for any golf visitor. And a value at that.
We played three courses in the past 4 days. By far the Hill Course was in the best of shape on and off the fairway.. look forward to playing it again
Great Playing Course for all levels of Golfers.
The staff was amazing. Great help from the time we walked into the clubhouse. A lot of fun to play and will challenge you no matter your handicap. Course in great shape even with the rain. The starter was very kind to share with us information that help us as we played. Thank You for an enjoyable round of Golf.
Great Opening Round Course
Hadn’t played since last season and this course was open and friendly. Excellent value for the cost.
Arthur Hills or Arthur Hills
Would have been useful to know that there are 2 courses both named Arthur Hills at Palmetto- one at Palmetto Dunes and the one we played at Palmetto Hall- we played the one with painted greens, need I say more
Enjoyable golf course
Played midday, may have been the 2nd or 3rd group off so there were no issues with the pace of play felt like we had the course to ourselves, good layout with very good greens. Enjoyed the range and practice area.
First time playing Palmetto Hall
When looking for a Tuesday morning tee time, the course selections were oddly limited -- but Palmetto Hall's Arthur Hills course was open and I decided to try it. Glad i did. Played somewhat long for me but a great layout and the course was well maintained. Very few bookings on the day I played so I got around quickly without any anyone in front until I caught up with a family group on 17 -- but we all moved along OK through 18. Would play here again or try their Robert Cupp course.
Still a great track
We hadn’t played here in years but always enjoyed it. It didn’t disappoint yesterday.. challenging without being ridiculously difficult and terrific greens.
We booked the Arthur Hills Course and we had a confirmation stating this; but they told us that we couldn’t play this course and had to play their other course.
There was no compensation for this.
Poor Accommodations
When a tournament is held this club needs to be more accommodating regarding spectators carts. We are only 2 ladies that follow our tour as spectators. We have played 3 courses over here and this was the only club that would not accommodate us. The gentlemen was also a bit abrupt in addressing us. Better planning is needed at this club. It is not like you are giving us anything because we pay for the use of the carts! We were here for the Senior Tour Golf Tournament.
Great Conditions
After a full day of rain right up to the hour before tee time,, we called ahead to verify that it would most likely be cart path only. We feared walking on extremely wet conditions with constant lift, clean and place, wet shoes, etc. What we found were well drained and firm fairways, excellent greens and about 1 1/2 holes that had any standing water and it was minimal.
