Arthur Hills at Palmetto Hall Plantation
About
The experience of playing the Arthur Hills Course at Palmetto Hall takes on an added dimension when you discover that the golf course was built on an old Civil War garrison. History aside, however, the Hills Course, which opened in 1991, stands proudly as yet another grand achievement by the legendary Ohio-born designer.
"At Palmetto Hall, golfers have to deal with another element when they miss their mark - the rough," said former TravelGolf.com writer Shane Sharp. "The cabbage is grown thick in the summer months, consisting of a deadly blend of Bermuda around the greens and Bahia along the fairways.
"Arthur Hills can be notorious for creating difficult courses like his course at Palmetto Hall. This course really demands accuracy or you can put some big numbers on your scorecard."
Playing the forward tees will give resort golfers enough of a challenge to keep them happy, while better golfers will be heavily challenged from the tips, which play nearly 7,000 yards, with a slope of 136.

A Course in a forest
A very nice golf course with an excelent lay out. Very enjoyable with wide fairways and very good greens condition.
A lot of tall trees guarding the fairways.
The tee boxes not in a perfect condition, but as we use a tee for the first shoot, is not very noticeable.
The staff is very friendly and the store with good inventory.
I will play there again any time.

Everyone working there was very friendly. The bad part the beverage cart came through on the 4th hole and then I did see it until the 18th green, and there was no halfway house to get a drink. Very disappointing... The course was in above average condition. overall. The pace was great on the front then ran into foursomes and took over 2 hours on the back. I paid based on a hot deal would not pay over $115.
Tee boxes/score card wrong
The scorecards given to us only gave me a choice of white tees at 6257 yards (137 slope), or green tees at 5006 yards (116 slope). I am 69 years old, 17,6 index and those tee boxes were to long or too short. When we were done I voiced my concern and he told me they had a different score card for members which included a black set of tees at 5648 yards (125 slope)! That's exactly what i needed. When I asked why 2 different scorecards all he said was "we have discussed this".
It was a very expensive waste of money and I had a terrible time. I will never return and would hope others will stay away. Far better courses in the area!
Golf Now review
Your charges to me 90.00 Their charge 47.00 I will deal with them in future! Thought you were offering a deal! Sadly mistaken!
Great course
Fairways, tee boxes, and greens were in great shape. Greens were a little slow but to be expected in late August. I will take slow over burnt. Staff was great! Played at 7:30am and finished in 3 hours and 15 minutes with a threesome. Would definitely come back.
Very nice course
This is. Very nice course on HHI. Staff was very helpful and very nice. Had a fun round!
Good course, bad greens
Cool layout, friendly staff and good practice facilities, but the greens were tiny, overgrown and burnt out in spots. Perhaps it’s the time of year, but the greens were muni-esque.
Good course, greens are improving
Played while here for family vacation, played as a single and never got held up so got around in 2.5 hours which was perfect. Nice easy player friendly course, shot 75 and first time playing (4.2 hcp). Greens appear to have been recently redone within last 6-12 months so they’re still growing in so I am certain there will be considerable improvement in the roll of the green. Overall nice course, slightly above average conditions and not a super demanding or challenging course. Would recommend!
Fun Course, Great Staff
Staff was super welcoming and accommodating. Course had a unique layout with some challenging holes, but very fun.
Great time on Hills course!
My son and I had a great time yesterday on the Hills course @ Palmetto Hall. From the moment we hit the bag drop till we loaded up to head home, we were treated as if we were guests of a top-tier private, exclusive golf club! Every single staff member we encountered made every effort to take care of us: Cart attendant - A
Pro Shop - A
Starter - A
Bev Cart - A (on both sides)
Rangers - A (loved the iced towels!)
Grill Room - A
Highly recommend Palmetto Hall!
Thanks everyone!!!
People Walking on the Cart Path
Palmetto Hall has two outstanding golf courses. I enjoy playing on both the Robert Cupp and the Arthur Hills. Challenging fairways and greens always makes it exciting. Seeing mother nature at her best with alligators, eagles, hawks and deer is such a treat.
However, I have played numerous times in the morning and I run into residents using the cart path for their physical activity. Many with ear phones on so yelling "fore" will not reach them. There are signs posted everywhere that indicates the cart path is closed from 0700-1900 every day. Yet, some of these residence blow it off and think they own the course causing a distraction. They even walk with the course flow with their backs to the golfer. I paid a lot of money to golf there, and these "walkers" have ruined my experience.
Great course for the money
I had a great time course condition was good the layout was great it was challenging but but good. Facilities were great and so was the staff
Great Course
This was a great course. Greens are Excellent. Fast but not extreme. Fairways are in good shape and holding up well with the heat. Sand traps are in good shape. Staff was very courteous and helpful. Starter was very polite. I would recommend this course and plan to play again with my group when we return to the area.
Awesome course
Just challenging enough. Will play again. Mason in pro shop was awesome!!
Great course on Hilton Head
Course on fathers day was not crowded. Very nice layout. Greens were in excellent shape. Fast down grain and held very well. Overall course condition was very good. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. I would recommend this course for play in the HHI area. .
Meh
Pace of place was an issue on the back. Shocked there were no Marshalls to assist. Some very gimmicky holes. Not a single water offered or available on the course. It was 90+ degrees.
Fun Time
The course was in great shape. The temp was awesome with a little breeze. The staff I encountered were friendly.
