Arthur Hills at Palmetto Hall Plantation

About
The experience of playing the Arthur Hills Course at Palmetto Hall takes on an added dimension when you discover that the golf course was built on an old Civil War garrison. History aside, however, the Hills Course, which opened in 1991, stands proudly as yet another grand achievement by the legendary Ohio-born designer.
"At Palmetto Hall, golfers have to deal with another element when they miss their mark - the rough," said former TravelGolf.com writer Shane Sharp. "The cabbage is grown thick in the summer months, consisting of a deadly blend of Bermuda around the greens and Bahia along the fairways.
"Arthur Hills can be notorious for creating difficult courses like his course at Palmetto Hall. This course really demands accuracy or you can put some big numbers on your scorecard."
Playing the forward tees will give resort golfers enough of a challenge to keep them happy, while better golfers will be heavily challenged from the tips, which play nearly 7,000 yards, with a slope of 136.

Not too difficult
Course was in good shape. I'm not a long hitter so I liked the forward tees marked with an orange dot on the cart path. A little strange to tee off in the fairway but it was not a problem. My only complaint was the slow foursome in front of us.
Odd Layout
The course was in below average condition for the price. My biggest complaint about the course is the odd layout of holes where when you tee off there are trees directly in front of the ideal shot. There are several trees I recommend they cut down or move the tee boxes. Not a great course and I don’t recommend it.
Highly recommended
Course was in terrific shape and pace of play was right at 4 hours. Members were very nice and offered some friendly advice. This was our first time playing here and it absolutely won’t be our last!
Lush fairways
Fairways were lush and greens rolled true. Pace of pay was right at 4 hours.
Good course in pretty good shape.
We played late afternoon, so it was hot but the end of the round felt good. Course is in pretty good condition a few dry spots here and there. Overall, it is a pretty open course and very fair to play. You can definitely shoot low if you keep it straight because it is not particularly long. Super friendly, helpful staff will definitely play again.
AH Palmetto Hall Plantation 20230802
First thing... there are two Arthur Hills courses on Hilton Head Island. I thought we had booked Arthur Hills Palmetto Dunes but it was Arthur Hills Palmetto Hall Plantation. The staff a both courses were very understanding and said it happens alot.
Once we were at the correct course we barely made our 0700 tee time but the Pro Shop and starter were very friendly along with providing information on the course. The condition of the course was excellent. Greens were consistent and the layout did have some challenges with the narrow fairways and bunker locations.
The service from staff while on the course was very good and selection off the drink cart was good. After the round we had lunch in the restaurant on site. The choices off the menu were excellent and the food was very good.
Would definitely play again with absolutely no reservations.
Nice layout
Me and my son played Oyster Bay, Shipyard and Arthur Hill. All nice courses but Arthur Hill was the best layout and scenery, it was the cheapest of the three. Tee times were 7:28, 11:48 and 11:00, pace of play was good and AH we played by ourselves with no one behind us and we caught up to the threesome on the back nine. It was hot (90’s) but the greens were good ( few burnt spot here and there ) I’ve seen people complaining about the greens but for about $100 in mid July in the 90’s they’re fine.
Don’t know where these people normally play but to play on a perfect course in HHI or Myrtle Beach it will cost you $300 - $400.
Take your kids and play golf , that’s what life is about 👍😎
The course played extremely good along with the challenging water holes .
This course was great and we will be back in the future.
Thanks Angelo
Condition
Course not in great condition. The pro offered others to play the Cupp course but didn’t offer us.
Enjoyable round
Greens in great shape and rolling consistently. Staff was very nice and accommodating. Shot my personal best, will be back!
Challenging, yet fair course
Excellent course layout demanding strategic tee and approach shots to avoid hazards and TREES. Huge pine and oak trees line and overhang into fairways, which provide additional challenge. Most fairways have healthy width, although, you will pay for a poor tee shot on most holes due to approach angles. Greens are massive, however, the various slopes and pin placements make it quite easy to 3 put. Greens were a little firm and quite fast. Fairways and tee boxes were well manicured with exception of a few small areas under renovation. All-in-all a good experience on the Hills course.
Very good course
Great shape - Great greens - so so design no real memorable holes - range had no balls. I would play again and advise you to play as well.
