The experience of playing the Arthur Hills Course at Palmetto Hall takes on an added dimension when you discover that the golf course was built on an old Civil War garrison. History aside, however, the Hills Course, which opened in 1991, stands proudly as yet another grand achievement by the legendary Ohio-born designer.
"At Palmetto Hall, golfers have to deal with another element when they miss their mark - the rough," said former TravelGolf.com writer Shane Sharp. "The cabbage is grown thick in the summer months, consisting of a deadly blend of Bermuda around the greens and Bahia along the fairways.
"Arthur Hills can be notorious for creating difficult courses like his course at Palmetto Hall. This course really demands accuracy or you can put some big numbers on your scorecard."
Playing the forward tees will give resort golfers enough of a challenge to keep them happy, while better golfers will be heavily challenged from the tips, which play nearly 7,000 yards, with a slope of 136.

Great day for golf
Nice course, but grass off main fairway is fair at best
Spend your money elsewhere
Played behind a tournament paid $140.00 each. Not worth the money. No service, they members told us not to bother ordering as the kitchen staff is slow. Bathrooms are dirty course is not in great shape no ladies tees just a dab of paint on the cart path. Do ladies not play in SC?

Deception
I booked this thinking I was booking Palmetto Dunes-Arthur Hills Course. Instead, it was Palmetto Hall-Arthur Hills Course.
New greens need a bit more sunshine
Good early season conditions, decent pace of play at about 4 hrs. Fairways still pretty dormant but playable. Greens apparently redone on Hill; old greens on Cupp actually play better but both fast and true.
A bit pricey
Really nice layout and staff but course condition was less than expected for the $140 price.
First time but not the last
A lovely layout. Course conditions are good for this time of year, though a few greens had bad spots. A great choice for the money.
Very Nice Course
Layout is great, staff is great, driving range is great. There is lots of beautiful scenery. Fairways were in pretty good condition and had pretty tight lies. I suspect they were still recovering from being dormant during the winter. Many of the greens were suffering from a fungus along the edges but were playable. They were fast and very challenging. We enjoyed the course especially for the money spent. One can see that they are working on the greens and they are recovering. I highly recommend playing here and I look forward to playing it again soon.
