About

Holes 18
Type Resort
Par 72
Length 6543 yards
Slope 137
Rating 71.9

The Barony Course at Port Royal Golf Club constitutes 18 of this well-known island facility's 54 holes.

Playing to just 6,543 yards from the gold tees, Barony is a very enjoyable course for all skill levels. The back nine in particular is a fine mix of long and short holes. Like its sister courses at Port Royal, Barony begins and ends at the club's beautiful Antebellum-style clubhouse.

From the tee, many of the holes on Barony appear to be relatively open. But as you approach the green the real challenge of the course becomes clear. The greens are small and protected by deep bunkers and Bermuda rough, demanding an excellent touch with the medium and short irons. This is a course where accuracy, not length is the key factor.

Not right now.

Every course on HH is way more expensive than in used to be, so in that respect Port Royal Baroney is no exception. But $165 for this track, in these conditions, that’s ludicrous. Fairways were in subpar muni conditions, at best. Can they charge that much and get it? Sure. Should they, no way.

Dry!

The fairways were hard, there wasn’t nice green plush grass. The rough wasn’t grass rough but dirt rough. Coming from the north I was excited to plan on grass and this didn’t satisfy me

fairways hard

Fairways were like cement. Greens great. Course overall very good,. But for premium price, I expected fairways to be better than my home course which costs one third as much.

Barony 3/28

Fairways not in good shape but not sure if that was due to it still being early spring. Greens however were in good shape.

Pace of play was awful - 4 hrs 35 min.

Novice golfers held things up.

Hybrid tees!

Enjoyable day, windy but pleasant. Course conditions excellent for early season. Greens in nice shape; sand firm and a bit thin in spots. Under 4 hour round.

"Member" tees allow an intermediate selection for us old golfers who appreciate a challenge but don't hit it as far as we used to. Stroke/slope ratings often drop way too low for "forward" tees and the hybrid, mixed tee option should be offered more frequently.

Tight, strategic and fair

On the island, older courses tend to have had better options and more room for layouts that don’t just maximize home values. This was a challenging but very enjoyable track. Convenient to access, great amenities.

Winter conditions still in play

We were welcomed and treated courteously..The course has a good layout with a mix of easy and challenging holes. The fairways were not overseeded, and the bermuda has only just started to grow so very little grass. Played in just over four hours.

A course that needs some tender loving care!

The tee boxes and the greens were in poor condition Some of the greens were not cut properly

The pace of play was very poor and of course there were no rangers on the course

Definitely not one of the top 75 US GOLF COURSES
