About
The Barony Course at Port Royal Golf Club constitutes 18 of this well-known island facility's 54 holes.
Playing to just 6,543 yards from the gold tees, Barony is a very enjoyable course for all skill levels. The back nine in particular is a fine mix of long and short holes. Like its sister courses at Port Royal, Barony begins and ends at the club's beautiful Antebellum-style clubhouse.
From the tee, many of the holes on Barony appear to be relatively open. But as you approach the green the real challenge of the course becomes clear. The greens are small and protected by deep bunkers and Bermuda rough, demanding an excellent touch with the medium and short irons. This is a course where accuracy, not length is the key factor.

Nice
Pace of play great also great value course in good shape for this time of year
Tee time was 1:40. Arrived at course at 1:10 and was immediately told ou tee time had been moved to 1:56 at check in. Gave ticket to starter and he had no idea when we would tee off. Finally got off at 2:10.

Golf Experience
Coarse was in good condition for the most part, there were a couple greens that were a little rough. We started our round 40 minutes late from our reserved tee time and therefore we were not able to finish our round. We only got 13 holes in after paying $60 to play. A total bummer..
Barony Two
Excellent golf on the island at a very reasonable rate. Well organized and efficient operational staff which can come across brusque and unfriendly to some. Course is very interesting, challenging, and fun. Fine pro shop offerings and the restaurant amenities are outstanding. The other course also rates high on our list!

Barrony Course
Greens were in excellent condition. Fairways were dormant, hard tight lies. Rough was also dormant. There are some long green to tee distances that are better suited for a cart. A couple of the holes are poorly design with limited openings to the greens. Bunkers all had nice soft sand. All in all a good course for the season, probably better when the grass is growing or if they had oversewed for this time of year.

Not So Royal
Unlike others, the course has not been overseeded &, as a result, dry dormant Bermuda grass is everywhere except the excellent greens & sand traps. Presentation & maintenance is very acceptable since winter debris (e.g. dead leaves & branches) have been removed the field of play.
From early spring to late fall, Port Royal would be in its prime condition since the last week of January is much too early.
Cold Day on the Course
The Barony course was in winter conditions. The weather was cold the day I played. There is no overseeding so there is little grass. If you are a person who is challenged by tight lies, the course plays difficult at this time. The short game is a challenge because of the tight lies. The greens were mixed. Some of the greens were nice and some of the greens had intermittent bare spots. The course has a very nice layout.
