The Barony Course at Port Royal Golf Club constitutes 18 of this well-known island facility's 54 holes.
Playing to just 6,543 yards from the gold tees, Barony is a very enjoyable course for all skill levels. The back nine in particular is a fine mix of long and short holes. Like its sister courses at Port Royal, Barony begins and ends at the club's beautiful Antebellum-style clubhouse.
From the tee, many of the holes on Barony appear to be relatively open. But as you approach the green the real challenge of the course becomes clear. The greens are small and protected by deep bunkers and Bermuda rough, demanding an excellent touch with the medium and short irons. This is a course where accuracy, not length is the key factor.

Good round
Course in better shape than previous year. Got my first hole in one in the 14th hole

What happened to the greens
Course in decent shape everywhere except the greens which were barely puttable. The greens weren't cut and had different tufts of grass growing at different rates. Staff told us afterwards that greens were overseeded and could not be rolled or cut for a few days. Would have been nice to know this before we booked or there should have been a substantial greens fee discount to play it as is.
I can say I played golf on Hilton Head.
Very nice practice facility. Staff friendly and helpful just not enough of them. NO monitor of pace of play on the course. Never saw a Ranger. Waited every tee box and fairway.
First impression
Saw the cart once the whole round. Not a lot of restrooms between holes. Greens a little rough for the money.
Barony blues
Overall very nice off course facilities (range, club house etc) The track itself was lacking. Greens were slow, fuzzy and devoid of much slope. Constant doglegs left, par 5’s that required the driver stay in bag, left us disappointed. Staff was professional and friendly however, we will try many other HHI courses before we return.
The pace of play was fine on the front side but on the backside we were delayed the whole way. They were 2 threesomes in front of us and the first group didn't clear the green and waited for the second threesome to hit the green. There was no ranger on the course to move things along to prevent this. Otherwise it was a wonderful experience. I will definately recommend this course.
Great Course!
Beautifully kept course! We really enjoyed playing here, we played multiple courses on a golf trip and this was my favorite! Great layout, very well kept bunkers were beautiful, fairways clean and greens nearly perfect. Tee boxes in good shape as well. Highly recommend playing here!!
