Golden Bear Golf Club at Indigo Run

Might be one of the best pubic courses on the island.

Overseeding gives the best green fairway conditions, every year. Greens roll well altho mid speed. conditions overall consistently good, at a very reasonable price.

Pace can be a bit slow on the back, but fine today.

Let’s just say you should have got a 4-1/2 to 5 star across the board, BUT the pace of play was poor and your Marshall’s did little to nothing to improve it. That was as frustrating as dealing with the group in front of us. On hole #2 they spent 10 full minutes looking for their drives. We never saw a group in front of them until the 14th hole. The charity guy on hole #4 (par 3) said the group in front of that group was already at least 12 to 15 minutes ahead of the group in front of us. Which makes total sense. After our ordeal on #2. The Marshall warned them on hole #3 before he even saw us to say he attempted to hurry them up. Said he would be back. Saw him on 7 and said the same thing. Talked to the starter who said we were only 10-15 minutes behind. Our round was just over 4-1/2 hours, but should have been 3-1/2 to 3-3/4 if they were not there or let us pass. All I heard is they are members, they are not the owners, so no excuse. Too bad as the course was in great shape and it was a great day to play.

Other than high end (and much more expensive) resort courses, Golden Bear is the best conditioned course on Hilton Head Island.

Played with a group of 3 other golfers. 4 hours 15 minutes for 18 holes. 2 hours for front 9 with a little waiting on last few holes.

Played 11 rounds on Hilton Head Island public courses February/March 2024 and the Fairways on Golden Bear were by far in the best condition..

3 hours to play the front 9. No Marshalls on the court to attempt to did things up. Mostly locals I’m guessing as they get a discount. Place of play essentially ruined the experience.
