Golden Bear review 2/19/2024

Second time playing this course. Teed off at 2:00pm sunset was 6:15. Course was in great shape with green fairways and smooth greens. A fair test from the gold tees, Great quality from the practice tee through all 18 holes. Only drawbacks were a bad cart which I swapped out after nine holes. Also play ahead of us was brutally slow with no ranger. Front nine took 2 hours 15 minutes and back nine was 2 and 30 minutes which means 17 was played in almost darkness and 18 in total darkness, I love the course and will come back next year and every year. It is totally worth the play. Staff also very friendly.

Too many people on course

The pace of play was horrible. Waited on every tee. Too many people people on course and not enough time allotted for teeing off on 1st tee making it necessary to wait for group ahead of you to play 2nd shot. Took 5 hours to play.

Great Course But...

I loved everything about the course. Conditions were great, practice areas were nice, clubhouse staff was welcoming and we started on-time. But once on the course, pace of play in front of us was terrible and not monitored. It took our foursome one hour to get through the 2nd hole, due to waiting on every shot. There were numerous holes with 3 groups waiting to tee off. Ranger came by and said the course was busy and he couldn't do anything about it. This is the second time I've played this course in the past few weeks and the same situation has happened. I think the course either needs on-course rangers to really push people along or increase the times between tee-times. It was a ridiculous 5.5 hr round. In February???

Needs a tree trimming program

Overall a good round. Pace was really good, 4 hours on a full tee sheet Saturday is always welcome. Felt like the trees have started to pinch the course from the original design leaving really small windows on a few of the holes. Kept waiting for a change in the par 4’s. Never got a hole where there was a choice off the tee other than driver.

Greens rolled great,.

Good value in Hilton Head, especially as compared to the cost of the big resort courses.

Wonderful course …… loved the layout.

It was ruined by extremely SLOW play with NO RANGER ever seen.
