Oyster Reef features elevated tees and lush fairways lined by thick stands of live oak and pine. Numerous doglegs accented by strategically located mounds and fairway bunkers, call for well-planned tee shots. Varying sizes of greens with well-defined tiers place a premium on precise approach shots.

The par-3 sixth hole, which plays 192 yards from the back tees to a green set against a backdrop of Port Royal Sound, is one of the most visually spectacular holes on Hilton Head. Oyster Reef is now a semi-private member-owned club with a limited number of tee times for guest play,

The carefully-maintained facility, designed by noted course architect Rees Jones, continues to be a favorite destination for serious golfers as well as a favorite with locals.

Course conditions were ok and greens rolled well. We couldn’t enjoy ourselves because pace of play was so slow. No rangers were monitoring play. After playing only 14 holes in 4 hours we drove off. We found gaps between two groups, probably not enough to warrant such conditions, however this situation did not concern staff.

We played two days after a pretty big rain storm so take my review with a grain of salt. Driving range was closed and it was cart path only so not off to a hot start.

The course does not drain well. We played a course the day before and there was a significant difference in drainage. I lost two balls to giant puddles. The greens were very slow but they looked great. The layout is fair and challenging. I play a draw so many holes I couldn’t use driver due to over hanging trees at the dogleg. Made for a more adventurous course management strategy.

Overall, I would play it again on a dry day and hope for faster greens. The staff was excellent! Best in class service.

The course was in great shape, despite all ofthe recent rain. The greens were very nice. The back nine is beautiful. The course is great for any handicap. I would recommend this one to every golfer visiting the island.

Was one of the first groups out with a 7:08 tee-time, paired up with a dad and his two teenage boys. All playing the course for the first time. We felt like we had the course to ourselves, played ready golf for the entire round. Greens felt like they were rolling slow that day, might have been early morning and dew causing that though, left a lot of putts short. Overall very nice course, would recommend it and look forward to playing it again my next time down
