Oyster Reef features elevated tees and lush fairways lined by thick stands of live oak and pine. Numerous doglegs accented by strategically located mounds and fairway bunkers, call for well-planned tee shots. Varying sizes of greens with well-defined tiers place a premium on precise approach shots.

The par-3 sixth hole, which plays 192 yards from the back tees to a green set against a backdrop of Port Royal Sound, is one of the most visually spectacular holes on Hilton Head. Oyster Reef is now a semi-private member-owned club with a limited number of tee times for guest play,

The carefully-maintained facility, designed by noted course architect Rees Jones, continues to be a favorite destination for serious golfers as well as a favorite with locals.

Excellent for beginners and low hanicappers

Fairways and greens were in great shape. Not too many fairway side-canals, which can be frustrating. Traps were mostly good sand, not hard packed.

The best course I’ve ever seen.

The course is just amazing. The views are crazy good, you’ll have a hard time focusing on your shot with all of the nature. The course was in perfect condition and the staff were all so nice. If you choose to play here you will not regret.

Best Value On HHI

Challenging but fun course. Front 9 with #6 is perfect. Back has a few challenging holes but any skill level can have a good round and still feel like they golfed a good course. Booked 9 for Twilight and got in 18 before sun even went below the tree line. Book this course every time I’m on the island.

Beautiful course, was expecting a little better conditions for the price

Overall beautiful course with a good layout.

Cons:

Was not informed that the greens would be aerated.

There was quite a bit of sand on the greens that made putting difficult.

A little pricey considering the two cons above.

Pros:

Beautiful course with a fun layout.

Very friendly staff

Fairways were cut and trimmed

Good course

Ok I'm biased since I birdied their signature 6th hole!!!

Nice course. Well maintained. Not excessively challenging.

Course layout was fine. They apparently aerated a few weeks ago with still some sand on the greens. Probably considering this they should have reduced price maybe 10 to 20 dollars or posted it (if they did it wasn't clear).

Carts are nothing fancy so bring your gps/rangefinder. While I was paired with a 3 some, normally resort courses will give you your own cart, which I found odd that they made me ride with some other guy. At $150 they could have let me ride solo and since my group (albeit 2nd tee time) was much slower than me I could have gone ahead. We did finish 4 hours exactly but given a preference I'd have taken my own cart and finished in 3 hours max given almost no one in front of us.

Overall experience was good. This should be on your list of courses to play at some point during a HHI stay. I understand from my playing partners this is part of a group of courses where for a fee you can play at a discount for multiple courses. So worth checking out if you're playing 3 or more courses. Just an FYI since I didn't know of this.

Cloudy Day

Overall experience was very good. One of those days glad to be out. Greens had been punched about a month and were coming in nice. A lot of grass from all the rain but drained well.

Sat 7/10/22

Great track. Somewhat tight. Greens mostly recovered from aeration. Staff great. Did Dawn Patrol. Off at first light 628. Done at 945. Love this track. Pick the right tees or it could be a long day. Course book will help or GPS device.

Second time playing this track. Liked it before, loved it this time as I remembered the quirky holes. Great design. Plenty of tee choices. Plays long( not a lot of roll). Greens could be better, if they got the Stimp up to 12-14 you’d be muttering to yourself. Not a bad play for $135

Course is Playing GREAT

Lots of rain the past 3 weeks has really made this course plush. Roughs, fairways and most greens are in fantastic shape. Still improving 2 greens in particular but still playing nice with their pin placements. Bring plenty of water and use that cooler with ice that they supply. Highly recommend a round here now that we are in July.

Nice course overall

Overall a good round. Tee'd off first thing at 628a.

Unlimited range balls on a grass range real nice.

Fairways in good condition.

Quizzical that there was a fair amount of sand on the greens 1 month after aeration.

The layout was nice except for one par five with a sharp dogleg left that most will layup with a 200byd shot with no real need to hit driver unless you can pull off a huge drawing/hooking driver.

Some mosquito so bring bug spray.

Staff was pleasant and bar was great to end with.

Oyster Reef

Very nice golf course, enjoyed the layout, lots of doglegs, played a foursome in just over 4 hours. A little pricey for the expectation. For the most part the course was in very good shape, there are a handful of greens that are they are nurturing back but overall it was no big deal.
