Oyster Reef Golf Course
About
Oyster Reef features elevated tees and lush fairways lined by thick stands of live oak and pine. Numerous doglegs accented by strategically located mounds and fairway bunkers, call for well-planned tee shots. Varying sizes of greens with well-defined tiers place a premium on precise approach shots.
The par-3 sixth hole, which plays 192 yards from the back tees to a green set against a backdrop of Port Royal Sound, is one of the most visually spectacular holes on Hilton Head. Oyster Reef is now a semi-private member-owned club with a limited number of tee times for guest play,
The carefully-maintained facility, designed by noted course architect Rees Jones, continues to be a favorite destination for serious golfers as well as a favorite with locals.

Enjoyable round
Played Friday morning 6/17. 1st time off at 6:36am
Greens had been punched on 6/4 and were still pretty sandy.
I think the layout is pretty straight forward with reasonably tight fairways. Some interesting par threes over water.
Fairways and tee boxes in good condition and I think I paid a fair rate for the round
Staff was great and I would recommend for the average vacation golfer.
Great Layout
Course had a great layout, little tough to Jussie greens as they had been aerated a little over a week ago. Staff was very nice and helpful.
Nice course but no no water stations
Played in 93 degree heat and no water on the course. Beautiful course and will probably be back.
the course was just punched but playable,
pace of play very slow
very hot day and no beverage cart
not good experience
Very Average
Best thing one can say about this course is the friendliness of the staff. Overall the course is not in very good shape. The greens are full of sand, the tee boxes are spotty at best. The fairways and bunkers are in decent shape.
It took me 5 hours to play and I played mid week and mid day. There were no rangers out.
There are better options for my golf dollar in Hilton Head. I would not recommend this course at this time.
Good day
Greens were aerated last week but most were back to normal. Lots of dog legs. Use every club in your bag. Son and I will be back
Oyster Reef an excellent choice!
Fairways and greens were in very good shape. Scenic views were a plus. Enjoyable round for us average golfers.
Check for aeration before you commit
Aerated tees and greens took away from an otherwise pleasant experience. Water and fescue made for a good challenge.
Could had been better
Weather could had been better as there was a heavy rain for 45 minutes. The course was aerated the morning of and they closed the range. Very unfortunate as it impacted our enjoyment of the round. Cindy complaining to the starter about pace of play for 5-10 minutes before we went to the first tee was puzzling and then we never saw her or another beer cart employee the entire time. To top it off, our cart died in the fairway of the 8th hole. In approximately 25 years of playing golf, I have never had a golf cart die on me at 330PM. When we called to get a replacement we got put on hold. Then the employee who provided us the new cart said these things happen. Never offered any sort of recourse for the round. Very disappointing and honestly, with all of the other courses in the area, makes me question if I will return. My parents live in Hilton Head and are disappointed in how we were treated indifferently. .
Great layout, friendly staff
Played two days in a row, first day we got rained out by a violent thunder storm, we were given a rain check the staff was very friendly, the manager Dennis was extremely helpful, the course had been aerated we got a reduced rate but the course was still in decent shape, my wife enjoyed it as well, it was challenging, but higher handicappers can still enjoy it because all the greens have openings to bounce it up, finishing holes 16, 17, and 18 very challenging, all in all very fun course with enough challenge to keep better players interested.
Great course
Great challenge for my friend who is just starting golf and I who is getting back into golf.
Great Course - impatient players
This was our first time playing at Oyster Reef. I was playing with my 16-year-old son but could only get in 8 holes due to the weather. I appreciated the rain check and will hopefully be able to revisit Hilton Head to redeem the great gift! My issue was the players behind us - it was very crowded and we were all waiting. My son and I could only go as fast as the people ahead of us. The foursome behind us teed off several times while we were in the fairway waiting and actually hit our cart twice. They would drive up while we were teeing off and were just extremely unpleasant and rude. The course was beautiful but the experience was unfortunate.
