Robber's Row at Port Royal Golf Club
About
A Pete Dye redesign of a George Cobb and Willard Byrd original design helped take the Robber's Row Course at Port Royal Golf Club toward the head of the pack on Hilton Head. Dye added or redesigned 43 bunkers on the front nine, changing par from 35 to 36 and did some shortening on the back nine to change par from 37 to 36.
The golf course plays little more than 6,000 yards, with a somewhat-friendly 124 slope rating from the tips. Players will have to do some work on their approach shots, as the Cobb/Dye design keeps its greens well protected with bunkers.
The golf course is a scenic delight, however, and in a nice move, you get history lessons at the tee boxes to help let you know the past of the area you are playing, which was once an important location in the Civil War.

Light rain but a good day
Played with two gents at same level as me so worked well. Cart staff was excellent kept me advised as there was a slight delay as rain had moved through. Got a little slow in back nine but steady pace. Lots of sand traps and water which make it a challenge for novice players. Fairways were fast and no drainage pro let whatsoever. Good greens too. Houses are kind of close so smarter to dial down a few tee shots. Par 3 was challenging as well. Good course I'd play again next time I'm down. Range is grass no mats which is nice too. Starter provided bucket of balls. Real worthwhile experience.
Great Staff
We have played Robbers Row several times on this visit to Hilton Head. The course needs a bit of work . Very thin fairways. Very nice greens. But, the one thing we have noticed......the staff is so friendly. Every single person that we have interacted with at your course could not have been any nicer! Great job, making us feel so welcome!
Joan,
Thank you for your feedback and rating. Our team strives to provide an excellent member and guest experience and your kind words ensure we're headed in the right direction. Also, we are working on our course(s) to enhance playing conditions.
Hope to see you soon,

Nice course
Overall conditions were very nice. The greens were very nice and well maintained. The layout is fun and challenging with narrow fairways and plenty of opportunities for a lost ball. The course demands accurately over distance, so plan on some irons or hybrids off the tee. We will return.
Thank you for your feedback and positive review. We look forward to seeing you when you return.
Thanks again,

The perfect dirt course
I love the course - its design. But there is virtually no grass in the fairways - better to hit off dormant Bermuda rough!
Wendover,
Thank you for your review. The cool wet winter did impact our dormant Bermuda fairways and they were thin. Thankfully, the warmer weather has arrived and our fairways are greening-up nicely. Glad you enjoyed the course!

Course needs attention
We have played this course several times over the last few years. The condition Of the course has deteriorated. The fairways are extremely thin. The layout is very nice , but without a Golf Now discount, we would never pay full price for this course. The conditions just don’t warrant it.
Joan,
Thank you for your feedback. Our fairways were a little thin over the winter do to not over-seeding. That said, spring has finally arrived and the Bermuda fairways are greening up and looking good. Hope you'll come back and play during the growing season which lasts through October.

Sloooow
Nice course design and good greens. 2 hours and 40 minutes to play 9 holes was way too long. We packed it in after 9. Either extend the times between golfers or move slow players along.
Thank you for your feedback. We are working on adding additional staff members on busier days to improve the overall experience for our members and guests.

Reasonable course
Greens were in amazing shape, but the fairways and tee boxes need work. Lots of patchy at best fairway grass. Pace was painfully slow.
David,
Thank you for your feedback. Our fairways were a little thin due to not over-seeding but they have started to grow because of the recent warmer weather. Also, thank you for sharing about your pace of play. We are adding additional rangers to ensure a positive pace of play for all our members and guests.

Good bang for the buck
Easy check in and very decent practice facility. Fun layout and nice conditions given the time of year. Would definitely play it again.
Lost my tee time, told me to email GolfNow
checked in for an 8:40am tee time. They told me I was 7:40. I checked 3 times before I left the hotel that morning. They messed up. They blamed golfnow. They told me to email golfnow. I still golfed ontime. Birdied 3. Nice course. Staff gave me a fresh taste of jersey. Tip them or they won't even say hello.
Raymond,
Thank you for your feedback. Sorry your experience with our team wasn't as positive as it should have been. That said, I'm glad you started on time and enjoyed our course.

The course? Terrific. Pace of play? Horrible
Not alone on the island, the fairways are a tad sparse, though not as bad as some - are you listening, Oyster Reef? The course design is terrific, it's long been one of my HH favorites. But play so slow that there were four groups on the first par three! At that point we were looking at a 6-hour round. In the end, it was 4:40. The greens were perfect, and not so fast that you'd fear three-putting from 20 feet. Of the 18 holes, there are at least 8 you'll remember for their design and/or beauty. Also, staff very accommodating.
Wendover,
Your feedback is appreciated. Our fairways were a little thin but they are greening-up nicely with the arrival of warmer weather. We are adding additional staffing on busier days to ensure a good pace of play for our members and guests. Glad your experience was positive.

So slow
5+ hours for a 3 some teeing off at 1 to finish. Course layout was fun. Greens were in great shape, rough was non existent because it was all dead
Thank you for your feedback. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed our courses. They are fun and challenging. In addition, we are adding staffing during busier days to ensure a positive member and guest experience.
