While Hilton Head is chock full of courses designed by some of the greatest names in golf, just one of them was designed with a computer to give it lines straighter than an arrow throughout.
The Robert Cupp Course at Palmetto Hall can be one of the most interesting and eclectic courses you'll play, as well as possibly one of the toughest. From the back tees the course plays to 7,079, with a slope rating of 144.
Named as Golf World's top designer in 1992, Cupp created a course that is visually challenging as well as challenging to play. With sand traps looking as if they were drawn in by, well, a computer, this is a course you'll tell your friends about, though you may not tell them your score.

Fun layout, fair not difficult
It was awesome. Played mid week, very few people out there so peace of play was awesome. Would definitely recommend, but would also suggest studying where the hazards are. Can get into trouble if you don’t know where everything is
Challenging Course
My average drives are under 200 yrds so I played the Black/Green tees (5379 yards) which were adequate. I still hit hybrids/fairway woods into 9 of the 18 greens. But made up for that with 13 of 14 fairways and only 27 putts for a score of 80. My only gripe was that although I was on the tee sheet I was not in the system as having a reservation so there was the clerk at the pro shop would not honor the golfnow price.
Good times
Had a great time. It was a beautiful course and the amenities were great. Staff was super nice and drinks were even better!
HH VACATION
My first playing this course and I can say this is a nice course. A little pricey as for cost to play, but will play here again. The staff from the pro shop, starter and the bar staff were on point as for first class service. My only compliant is that the yard markers were hard to find. We didn't keep the balls in play so the ball markers didn't matter. LOL Will come here again.
First time pleasantly surprised
Regularly visit Hilton head but had not played palmetto hall. The cupp course was in good shape, fairways and tee boxes were great. We were told the greens were recently re done and punched. Could not tell that the greens had been punched and they rolled great. There were a few spots that looked damaged along the fringe on a couple holes but nothing effecting put play. The layout was challenging but fair off the tee. Lots of trouble to be found. Some green complexes were challenging, small and hard to keep the ball on the green if out of position. Can’t wait to play again the next time in town.
So-so
No one said greens were aerated.
Back nine was worse.
Clubhouse grill was very slow in attending to customers.
Based on this I paid too much for a round of golf with my wife. No highlights and relaxation to this golf outing. Disappointed
I would recommend this course
The Robert Cupp Course was fun to play. Now granted the the greens had just been aerated making the course tougher but that’s golf and the club had reduced green fees. Overall I enjoyed playing the course and so did my wife. We didn’t have a problem with pace of play. We were the second group off and passed the foursome ahead of us on the second tee. Played our normal three hour round.
At this time there is a lot of work going on. The course will be great when the new owner gets done with the work. At this time it is not great.
