Robert Cupp at Palmetto Hall Plantation
About
While Hilton Head is chock full of courses designed by some of the greatest names in golf, just one of them was designed with a computer to give it lines straighter than an arrow throughout.
The Robert Cupp Course at Palmetto Hall can be one of the most interesting and eclectic courses you'll play, as well as possibly one of the toughest. From the back tees the course plays to 7,079, with a slope rating of 144.
Named as Golf World's top designer in 1992, Cupp created a course that is visually challenging as well as challenging to play. With sand traps looking as if they were drawn in by, well, a computer, this is a course you'll tell your friends about, though you may not tell them your score.

A good day of golf, however our cart conked out on the fifth hole. We called the pro shop and they said they would send out a new cart. We started walking instead of waiting and ended up walking all the way to the ninth. The bag drop attendant seemed brain dead about the whole incident. We got a new cart and finished the round.
Lots of water on this course.
Greens were in great shape. Friendly staff and free range balls always appreciated.
Magnificient course
Played this course mid Feb. so grass not real green but still excellent to play. Would love to make this my home course. Fairways wide with lots of bunkers to attract golf balls. Mostly large and undulating greens, also with ball attracting bunkers around them. Excellent shape inspite of damage caused by hurricane Matt. Would give this course ********** stars.
Solid Course
A buddy and I came out early and enjoyed a nice round.
The course was in pretty good shape and the greens rolled true. Lots of water and sand come into play. This course can be challenging if you're spraying the ball everywhere.
Some tee shots are repetitive but id still come back and play. Paid $45 so the value was fair.
Course for all skill levels
I would recommend this course for all skill levels. It is open enough for high handicappers and has plenty of challenge for low handicap players. Greens are fast, tricky and roll great. The fairways were in good shape, but this is Feb., and I can just imagine how nice they will be in a couple months.
great layout, lots of water and bunkers
lots of challenges for your average golfer, and I would include these for the above average golfer as well. I will definitely play it again and try to beat my score. A fun day.
Worth the money.
Nice layout. For the price on golfnow.com, well worth the round at $33. Lots of water on almost every hole, especially the pond on number 10. Pin placements were extremely difficult for a 14 handicap. Some very short par 3's with fairly fast greens so stay below the pin placement.
Very friendly course
Love the course layout. The starter and the person in the club were very helpful and friendly.
Great course, great day!
Take some time on the practice green because these greens are no joke. Pretty challenging course.
Great course(12 handicap)
This was the second day in a row playing the Palmetto Hall Cupping course. There was a $20 hot deal that made it exceptionally great. It was a 20 mph day but the wind wasn't a bother. The course was in great winter shape. The greens particularly. These greens are very undulating, with very few flat putts. Sometimes the pin placements were on slopes making parts impossible but that just showed how interesting they can make the course play. My round was great but the last nine holes a little slow (2 hr 10 min) as I was a single behind two foursomes of a winter golf trip. They were not great players and of course they were all putting out for the big bucks bets. I just waited patiently since I had played the front nine in 1 hr 10 min. I really love the 18th hole with its challenging approach shot to almost an island green. Then also have a very challenging 18th hole on their Hills course. I will be back.
Interesting Course
Very much enjoyed the course. Was a little tight but still playable. Greens were in excellent shape. My wife and I played as a twosome in about 3 1/2 hours. Golf staff were very nice. Only complaint was with the bar after the round. The bartender was not very friendly. He seemed disturbed that we only wanted drinks. My wife had a house chardonnay that was absolutely horrible. She dumped over half of it out. We will definitely will play the course again but go somewhere else for a drink afterwards.
Great course, great price.
I really like the Cupp course. It is very challenging and some holes are a little weird, but I like it. The greens were in great shape, as was the rest of the course. Highly recommend
January Golf
It was great to be able to play in January. The weather was on the cool side and windy. The grass was dry and brown, not much growing this time of the year. It sure beats trying to play golf in the snow in Pittsburgh
Difficult Course
Challenging course design and nice tract. Huge greens well protected by sand bunkers and water, but slow roll.
