Robert Cupp at Palmetto Hall Plantation
About
While Hilton Head is chock full of courses designed by some of the greatest names in golf, just one of them was designed with a computer to give it lines straighter than an arrow throughout.
The Robert Cupp Course at Palmetto Hall can be one of the most interesting and eclectic courses you'll play, as well as possibly one of the toughest. From the back tees the course plays to 7,079, with a slope rating of 144.
Named as Golf World's top designer in 1992, Cupp created a course that is visually challenging as well as challenging to play. With sand traps looking as if they were drawn in by, well, a computer, this is a course you'll tell your friends about, though you may not tell them your score.

Great course, but pace of play way too slow
We had a great first nine holes, but then we got backed up by six people on the 10th hole. We finally just gave up and went home.
Solid choice- nothing spectacular
Course was ok. Generally in decent shape. Handful of greens and numerous bunkers were pretty beat up. Had first tee time out and was held up by the grounds crew for most of front nine. Then most of rest of course didn’t have tee markers in so it was a guess of which tee box every time our group drove up.
Staff was helpful and friendly. Not much in way of on course amenities
Excellent Course
The layout of this course is fantastic. Fairways and tee boxes in great shape. Every hole is unique, one of the best I’ve played on the island. The only thing keeping it from 5 stars is the condition of the greens. They are just okay, some better than others. Other than that it’s a 5 star course. Would still go back and play it regardless.
Palmetto Hall Cupp course
Really enjoyed playing here. The course is kit difficult. It is well laid out and presents plenty IPC interesting shots.
The staff are friendly and was paired with father and son and his girlfriend, fantastic people. Thoroughly enjoyed the round and stopped afterwards at the restaurant/ bar and was treated really well and the food was excellent. Would love to play at this facility again.
Excellent experience
I read other negative reviews about this course and they aren't accurate. This course is fabulous and I would come back here any time to play. One of the most enjoyable I've been to for sure.
Good course, some greens needed attention
overall, this was a good course, but there were some very rough spots on the greens that would have been hard to put through.
everyone was friendly and helpful.
forgiving fairways, best greens on the island. Undulating from back to front, and fast on the stimpmeter. Miss on the wrong side of the pin and you're in for a ride. Water can come into play on most of the holes and sand traps are in excellent condition. I've played most of the island courses and this is now my go to course. Can't beat the price.
Beautiful and well maintained. Sadly it was cart path only due to earlier storms. this is not a layout you want to play on a cart path only day. the paths are too far from the fairways.
Challenge Layout
We really enjoyed this technically challenging course which was in great shape. Very visually appealing The only negative is that the the clubhouse closes at 4:00 pm so no 19th hole social, drink or snack.
Good course for the price
Course was pretty tough for my group of semi-beginner golfers that all shoot around 100. Lots of fun holes with great views but overall not the hardest course i’ve played by any means. Be mindful when you choose what tees your playing because the further tees are very strategically placed. Overall great course for the 75$ i got to play it for!
Practice area closed on Thursdays
Course overall was fine. The entire practice area was closed except for the putting green next to the starter. We were told it was closed for maintenance, but there were no maintenance staff on the range.
