Royal St. Augustine Golf and Country Club
About
Located in Florida’s oldest city, Royal St. Augustine Golf & Country Club offers a glimpse of the area’s lush foliage and native marshlands. The course has a visually interesting layout with elevated, sprawling greens and a variety of bunker shapes and sizes. The moguled fairways and sandy waste areas are two other distinguishing features of the course. It is a tight course with large greens and gentle undulations. The layout provides a “target-golf” experience that puts a premium on accuracy and distance control. The numerous bends in the course in combination with the blustery winds also makes proper club selection very important.

Golfer Reviews
Real Bad
We could only play front 9 twice, because back 9 was shut down. But hole 6 on the front 9 was also off limits so really we played 8 holes, twice. The the fairways were smoother than the greens and the fairways were not smooth. The greens were honestly the worst part. I used to enjoy this course a d it's sad to see it's really gone downhill. Booked for $30 a player. They charged us $25. Still too much for what we played.
Not what expected
Course is in utter dissaray. Conditions were not good. Understandable because Florida is dry right now some fairways and course needed watering. Several greens were temporary hole placements as they were either reseeding or fixing them. Pace of play was okay at best people trying to figure out what club to use on temp holes and driving thousand holes with carts. Not acceptable. Relaxing round nonetheless weather was great and price was good on golf now app. I found out when got to course why it was so low.
Stay Away
They are working on the greens and it is not playable and won’t be for some time. The course should not be open
Course needs some TLC.
Greens in bad shape. A lot of sand on them. I would not recommend this course.
Fun round
Greens need work, they were working on #6 and was closed. Remainder of course was in good shape and a nice layout. Challenjng but not impossible or overly punishing. Staff was great.
Sandy greens
The greens were full of sand. I don't recommend anyone wasting their time or money until.they can fix this course.
16 out of 18 greens and tee boxes very poor condition
I was very disappointed in the course had not played there in a couple of years. I will not play there again until it is back to its old form. Very disappointed in the course.
Mean greens, friendly Staff
Unfortunately, this is one of the worst golf courses I've played shape wise. The Staff was very friendly but every green had some level of burnout if not all the way burned out. The staff was nice and did discount the round but if I had known how bad the greens were I would not have booked here.
Not good
I hate to leave a bad review, I truly do but patrons need to be very aware of the conditions of this course. Bunkers were dirty pits, there has been no money spent on this course regarding maintenance There was maybe two greens that were actually playable or that you could really putt on. Half the T-boxes was straight up dirt. Cart girl had no chips or snacks I'm sorry there is nothing good about this course I can say to you with the exception of the front desk staff and cart girl they were nice and accommodating. Even at less than $40 I would not play here again.
Great layout
Unfortunately, the course is in
really rough shape
DO NOT PLAY
This course is absolutely destroyed. The tee boxes, the greens, the fairways are all in terrible shape. The greens are unplayable.
Worst course I’ve ever played. Do not waste your money.
The only good thing I could say is the staff was very friendly.
Very sad
Nice staff
Nice course layout
Greens are in such bad shape they are unplayable.
Tee boxes no grass
Bunkers hard packed haven’t been raked in awhile
Course has been potential but so far away from being in just acceptable shape.
Maybe the course in the worst I have ever played in 35 years.
I wish them luck.
First Timer Review
The overall layout is fun and challenging, however the extremely poor conditions of most every green was a great disappointment. Dry rot and aeration trackings made reading and putting a crap shoot. We could not gauge speed and it was like putting on the surface of a huge, toasted English muffin. Nooks and crannies are good for butter and not a putter. All in all the fairways were in good shape. Lots of water and a fair amount of beachfront to play around but again, no real issues with the layout.
The staff were all friendly and accommodating and the clubhouse and restaurant were clean and welcoming. The bottom line is that Royal St. Augustine has the potential to be one of best public courses to play without having to sell body parts to cover the cost. The greens need a vast amount of improvement before we will convince ourselves to make the 30 mile drive again. It’s a shame as we do like the course. Overall I give this venue only 3 out of 5 stars but with playable greens 4 or 5 stars id a real possibility.
Horrible
Do not play this course unless you want to putt on all sand so called "greens". Same goes with tee boxes. Played this course many times in the past but never in this condition. Should have paid me to play there instead of the other way around. Will not play again until course completely fixed.
