Royal St. Augustine Golf and Country Club
About
Located in Florida’s oldest city, Royal St. Augustine Golf & Country Club offers a glimpse of the area’s lush foliage and native marshlands. The course has a visually interesting layout with elevated, sprawling greens and a variety of bunker shapes and sizes. The moguled fairways and sandy waste areas are two other distinguishing features of the course. It is a tight course with large greens and gentle undulations. The layout provides a “target-golf” experience that puts a premium on accuracy and distance control. The numerous bends in the course in combination with the blustery winds also makes proper club selection very important.

My first round in Florida ... never going back to PA :P Photo submitted by Eric3413 on 08/06/2013
Fun Day
Greens are in good shape, tee boxes are in serious need of help, bunkers are well maintained, and fairways are typical for this time of year. Hooked up with 2 other singles and had fun time.
Much improved
I stopped playing here because it is usually so bad. But I decided to give it another try last weekend. Wow. I'm gad I did. It's still no where close to being perfect, but it is much improved. Its in much better shape than some other nearby courses that charge a lot more and have a much better reputation.
Course layout is very good and reasonably challenging and green condition is good
However TEE bog management is poor.,bear glass area..
Pacce of play; I was unlucky to follow tthe terrible foursome who doesn't have any golf etiquette. It might take 6 hours to finish the day
Completely Disappointing
This could be such a good course. The layout is interesting and fun. That's where it ends. I keep hearing the course is improving, so I go back and give it another try. I think it gets worse everytime. $47 for the course in this condition is robbery. St. Augustine is in such need for a good course near the downtown area, and this course and The Shores continue to fail. Thankfully we have the county course, or we have to travel.
The course was in fair condition. The Greens were ok but many of the tee boxes you were teeing off in just dirt.
I know the fairway grass is in winter condition but areas did not have much grass.
The cost are in line with similar courses in the area but will not be the case if conditions continue to deteriorate.
Interesting Track
First off I think in order to give this course a good review you must play it more than once. It is a shot makers course and very tight fairways. So if you like target golf this may be a course worth seeing. Conditions were ok greens rolled true.
Oh
Every shot rolled off. Lost 4 ballson first three holes
Great course challenges .
The extremely good course design presents fun challenges. The other reviews about club selection off the tee are spot on. Even I , a lady, didn't use my driver on some par 4s and 5s.
We were lucky the starter got us the course yardages booklet which was sometimes crucial, even though I have a course GPS watch. In addition My phone app ( The Grint) was good until the phone died. I don't think the built-in cart charger outlets were working. The point is, the course places a premium on club selection
The teeing grounds were not good. The greens were very good, and faster than I'd thought they could be. However, I don't think they were 100% consistent to each other. As I've no back spin, that made not much difference. My putting is my forte
Same Old - Same Old
Course is tough due to narrowness and slopes besides the woods and water. If you have a slight hook or slice, kiss your ball good-bye. On a positive, I left the course with twice as many balls as when I began, thanks to my trusty ball scooper. Tee boxes - terrible. Fairways - okay. Greens - Better than normal for this course.
Value for the price
Okay except no one out there to keep the pace going
Severely slow especially when we hit the back nine
Save your money
Selected the course for the price and location relative to our VRBO in St Aug. Entire experience was terrible. Arrived early to get loose and was encouraged to hurry up and tee off to avoid the “big groups” coming. Asked if I could walk — was told we don’t allow walkers. Did as they asked and rushed. At the starter the very gruff man insisted I wait. Made me wait in a particular spot. We had words. He explained “everyone knows him.” Played the front. Got to the grill, and learned they “shut down their kitchen.” Got to 10 tee. Triple stacked. I went home this point. Absolutely pitiful course and system.
Enjoyable day, but very difficult track!
I am about a 5 handicap, but I can see that this place would be very VERY hard for a higher handicapper! As long as you don't take yourself too seriously you will enjoy it! But bring a few extra balls and some humility. Greens were good, tee boxes need some TLC. This was my 2598th different golf course played in my life (IG @thequestfor3000), and it is well above the Mendoza line.
