Located in Florida’s oldest city, Royal St. Augustine Golf & Country Club offers a glimpse of the area’s lush foliage and native marshlands. The course has a visually interesting layout with elevated, sprawling greens and a variety of bunker shapes and sizes. The moguled fairways and sandy waste areas are two other distinguishing features of the course. It is a tight course with large greens and gentle undulations. The layout provides a “target-golf” experience that puts a premium on accuracy and distance control. The numerous bends in the course in combination with the blustery winds also makes proper club selection very important.

Rather play back 9!twice

Great staff. Signage could be better for us first time players. First 9 really needs work. Tee boxes are non really bad on first 9 holes.

Course review

First time playing Royal Saint Augustine. I thought the course layout was challenging one. I like the uniqueness of the course layout.. The front nine holes need some repair on each hole. The back nine is in better shape. The greens were either slow or fast. It was tough to judge how to put on each green. Hopefully once the grass starts to fill in and grow, . The course will be in better shape.

Course has been neglected

Brown-dead spots on fairways and greens.

By design, very narrow fairways along with no rough that could hold just slightly errant tee shots.

Very Tight Course

This course was tough. I would consider myself an average golfer at best but this course made me look even worse. Almost every hole has blind water on one or both sides of the fairway. The fairways are some of the most narrow I have ever played on. If you are a member you know where to attempt to land your ball, if it’s your first time…good luck.

I lost balls that I hit great and thought they would be safe, turns out they would find their way into water that comes into the fairway making it even tighter. When I did make it to the greens they were extremely slow. Save your money and go somewhere else.

And don’t care for the layout to be honest. Greens not in good shape in general.

Poor front nine

First time playing here. Probably my last. The front nine greens were in very poor shape. Back nine not as bad but very slow. Lots of courses have struggled down here but you could tell that this course is not being cared for. Areas of erosion is just one thing. The sand traps were all terrible. Little sand and looked like they hadn't been raked in weeks. Lots of weeds in fairways. And some very unfair holes. Can't recommend this one. Especially not for $56.

Awful course conditions

No ranger or cart person. Pace of play was horrific. Front nine was probably the worst course conditions I’ve ever played on. Sprinklers soaked one of the greens and were still on while attempting to play. Cart path was falling apart. Green’s were atrocious throughout the course. Charging anyone more than about $15 is criminal.

Sad

Overbooked and poorly managed! No keys to golf carts, No answers from staff and the pace of play would have been a six hour round minimum . I only played the front nine which took three hours and 10 minutes to complete and when I hit whole number 10, there were three foursomes in front of me. I decided right then and there that this place was not worth my time, and I will never be back again.
